Great video Steve. Those vibrator motors very commonly end up with a broken wire on the top motors. The annoying thing is it's impossible to see the fault without removing the triggers

I'm curious to see the inside of the new consoles also curious to see the inside of the dualsense controller, the Xbox controller looks like it isn't much different so I'm assuming it will be relatively the same inside but the dualsense is drastically different from a dualshock 4 controller.

@@Tronicsfix I have stick drift on my elite 2 on the left stick that goes all directions and I have to press in the stick to go forward sometimes or go off to the side and then go forward. Any tips on fixing it ? It has been dropped multiple times on the sticks from like ~1 foot from the ground. Mainly gravity

Actually sadly with the series 1 Elite controllers the shoulder buttons where well known to break because they decided to make it so there was a very thin piece of plastic between the left and right bumper which snaps even with very normal use.

Love the idea of just replacing the potentiometer instead of the whole analog stick. Simple, but genius. It means the analog stick spring isn't changed to a new stiff one.

I've even binged watched several videos back to back out of PURE ENJOYMENT. So I think even an hour long video would be equally acceptable but I understand you reasons for wanting to keep the length to under 30 minutes.

So I got a refurbished xbox one series 2 elite controller from the Walmart store. I ordered the refurbished on accident but I gave faith to the guys who worked on it thinking they hopefully took pride in their work. Long story short my controller has multiple malfunctions with the right trigger, home button, the back left paddle was worn still, and it smelt like a absolute cigar house. It smelt so bad to the point I needed to air it out. Never get refurbished from Walmart 😂. Btw Walmart never responded to my emails I sent them.

I’ve had experience with soldering in the past in school and I’ve always been nervous to take apart my ds4 and replace the analog sticks. But the solder sucker looks like it may be a useful tool that I need that will actuallygive me confidence to try it

I had to replace 2 of these controllers. No rage quit or throwing controller. Bumpers broke within 5 months of playing “Bumper Jumper Setting” in Halo 5. The rubbers also fell apart too.... I just sent in my Elite 2 for repair because left bumper stopped working and so did the X button. Kinda sad we pay so much for these controllers and ends up breaking. PS I’ll still buy these with warranty. Can’t go back to reg controller. Love the paddles to much lol

People are going crazy on pre-orders, meanwhile Steve has not even blinked just thinking, 'I'm going to see so many of these things I don't need too'. All from sources such as: New videos of people golf clubbing consoles, throwing them off towers or tall buildings, angry girlfriends throwing them out of windows real or staged and people blowing them up. To which regular people will be shock, horrified and going 'oh no.' Meanwhile Steve is there nodding like an encouraging Jack Nicholson as he hits F5 on eBay.

Those vibrator motors seem to have very low quality wiring considering that the intended behavior of those things is to cause vibrations. In case any vibrator motor not working, it's pretty safe assumption that the wiring is bad.

I purchased an electric screwdriver just like yours. It works great while repairing my Grandsons' toys. Actually they belonged to my son and we take turns fixing the toys. Your comment about not making money, but stopping them from going straight to landfill is one reason why I love watching your videos. Sure, you have got to make money as and when you can, but that isn't your only motivation, and I for one applaud that. My philosophy is, if it's broken, don't scrap it and buy a new one, at least try and fix it. And heck, if it's not broken, you can fix it until it is! 😂 I know that's not the expression you use, but I don't remember it now. Guess I shall have to go back and watch some of your other videos.

@11:25 I've repaired a number of drifting controllers (including one Elite) by prying open the potentiometers and replacing the thin moving part. Got spares from cheap replacement sticks I bought from Ebay. Nice, since I can't solder to save my life.

Am I understanding this situation correctly that M$ never made any OEM parts available to 3rd parties for repair purposes? I have 2 Elite 1s that developed peeling rubber grips (Front and back) within 6 months of purchase, just outside of the useless 90 day warranty period. I was able to get them to do a "Goodwill replacement" outside of the warranty period on one of the controllers. The grips on that one lasted about 8 months, gaming 5-10 hours per week. At that point I called with the intent of having the controllers repaired at my expense, and was told that was not an option. I'm just floored that the only way to fix these things is to literally cannibalize other Elite 1s for parts, netting your 50-60% success ratio and still leaving expensive controllers headed for the dump. Just unbelievable... Thanks for the vid, it was incredibly informative and eye opening.

pretty sure the rumble motors being slow is to do with the profile on each controller. on the Xbox, in Accessories. you can configure each Rumble intensity, the info is stored on the controller itself. so changing the rumble wont do anything. you just need to delete all the profiles so the controller is "stock/Default" settings. before testing anything. Plus The Vibrate in the elite controllers can be rather violent. and break the wire connecting to the motor. Edit: you spotted the broken wire.

0:49 The accessories are missing two sticks and a directional pad, which should be on the controller.

Stick drift is one of the most common things and it's really easy and cheap to fix if you do it like he does here. Just buy some cheap sticks and swap the potentiometer out. I do it on mine, cost about £1.50 for a stick on ebay. You don't even need to solder a new one on.

Be careful at 18:33 - that plastic edge is what holds the bumper inside the shell. If you cut too much off, the bumper will flop around. It will still work, but it can be very annoying

Glad I watched this one today. 👍😁 I've done several drift stick fixes by replacing the stick entirely, but using the heat gun method never occurred to me hehe... I may try that next time. Also, I'm going to look for the potentiometers as an individual purchase, the thumb sticks are inexpensive enough but if I can save a dollar or two why not do it hehe...

The L1 and R1 triggers were the biggest problem not only on the first Elite controller. The first Xbox One controllers had the same problem. You drop it or throw it and it's done. I threw 2 myself.

Rubbing alcohol works wonders on sticky buttons. Without taking them apart. Dump a little down on the sticky button, and let it dry. Works almost every time.

Thanks tronix for this video, it showed me how to take apart my controller so that I could transplant a thumbstick from an older controller onto the one I use a lot. The left thumbstick had a huge chunk of the padding falling off and barely hanging on. So I am glad I was able to replace it myself without having to pay 60 for a new controller

Isn't that just a figurative expression? At least I hope it was. Over here electronics are recycled for materials. Most of a controller is plastic, so it's either used for a new plastic product or burned for electricity/heat (burning plastic is not that much different from burning oil). The metal parts and electrical components are harvested for the raw materials/elements. I thought things work the same in all the developed countries now. The typical, old-fashioned landfills haven't even existed over here for many years now.

@@Dexter101x Burnable waste is burned in modern, specialised facilities designed and built for that exact purpose. The exhausts are filtered and monitored. Sure, it's toxic, since even carbon dioxide is toxic for aerobic organisms, but it doesn't matter in practice. After all, without any carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, we would all die of hunger when plants ceased to produce carbohydrates. It's more ecological, not to mention economical, to burn plastic for energy than to bury it somewhere (or throw it into the ocean). The energy generated by the waste burning plants is reduced from the amount of energy needed to be generated elsewhere, in traditional power plants. The remainder (ash) from the waste burning facility is much less than the carbage going in, obviously, and less environmentally harmful, as far as I know, because all organic compounds are gone.
