I agree this Proctor seems like a disrespectful jerk - but I actually think his texts further prove that he believed her to be guilty of hitting Mr OKeefe. Not one of his texts mentions planting the taillight, covering up a murder etc. I think the texts help the prosecutions case - crazy as that may seem.
