I added a bunch of plants and more tanks to my house to help with the seasonal affective disorder too! I'm in the North East and can relate to bleakness the winter brings. Love the look of the room and the pond looks amazing!

It's a struggle every winter isn't it? I know it affects some more than others. That's great, I'm sure you'll notice a big difference with all those plants and tanks. I know I do. Thank you!

Dan- It's so good to hear your upbeat voice and see the tremendous progress you've made since I was fortunate enough to visit you 2 years ago! I miss seeing you at the swaps but I assume that's because the website has become so productive. Sometimes good things do happen to good people "especially if we work for it." ;) God bless you and yours, Steffan

Cool fish room! I've been growing plants indoors for a while, and one thing I learned is the importance of replacing the soil every year to refresh the nutrients. Even adding osmocote or using liquid fertilizer didn't help after a year. It wasn't until I started re-potting them with fresh soil once a year (max 18 months) did my plants look and grow amazing. Learn from my mistakes lol.

Loving the jungle vibe! Beautiful fish room! We use the plastic mesh from craft stores to create false bottoms for our egg scatterers. It's $1 a sheet and you can pick different gauges of mesh depending on what you are spawning. Works great for us! I'm a little jealous about your medakas lol! Ours were spawning and hatching. Now, they are spawning, but are not hatching. I'm starting to wonder if I need to add kh or remineralizer to our well water. Our water is filtered naturally by 100,000,000 tons of sand before it hits our well. Once settled, it comes out of tap at 6.8 pH, 0 kh, 31 tds, which is just iron. But, why did they boom then stop? I'm still trying to figure this one out! Thank you for the update video!💜
@sydneysangels2 ай бұрын
That is a great idea, I'm going to have to try that! I wonder if your medakas just need a bit more time to adjust to the water parameters? Or maybe adding something like Seiryu stone will boost the KH slowly and naturally? I also know rice fish can be seasonal breeders so maybe they stopped fertilizing the eggs? I'm completely guessing at this point lol. Thank you for the compliments, they mean a lot to me. I'm going to try the false bottoms, thanks 👍☺️

Great video with enjoyable, quality content. Regarding breeding hillstream loaches, I won't claim to be an expert, but they do breed for me regularly. The two changes I'd make to your setup based on observations of what works for me and where I see them spawn is (1) make the piles of rocks deeper (more hiding spaces for babies) and (2) have a current directed toward a spawning mop. When I've seen them spawn, they choose to spawn adjacent to a spawning mop in the current. I'm not saying these things are necessary, but they might be helpful.
@sydneysangels2 ай бұрын
Thank you Mark for the kind words. I appreciate the tips, I will definitely make some changes to that tank because as far as I can tell I have not had any breeding yet. I added probably double the amount of stones and I will add something to aid in the current. Thanks again!

Great video. Thanks for going over your remineralizing of the RO water. Was wondering how you go about adding KH since equilibrium is how you add your gh.
@sydneysangels3 ай бұрын
Thanks 😊 yeah since I don't use DI resin there is still some KH in my water after the RO unit filters out most of the stuff. It goes from 20+ KH to about 3 KH which is enough for a stable pH

LOVE the plant selection!! Just watch out for spider mites on those Lowe's plants! If you're looking for a cheaper option, check out Orange Lake Nursery - huge selection and you can get a ton of more rare cool looking tropicals for much less than other places. I have 4 male boesmani rainbows in my 55-gallon. Thought that having males would make them color up, but it hasn't happened. What's your opinion on how to make them color up since I don't want to add females into my tank. My tank is filled with neon tetras and is kept at 76 degrees if that helps at all.
@sydneysangels22 күн бұрын
Honestly I think adding females would help a ton! I know you said you don't want them, but that gives the dudes a reason to display in my opinion. Also lots of water changes and quality food should help. I also find a dark substrate and dark background help as well
