I've watched most of your videos, and they are consistently beautiful. You have a real talent for the balance between re-creation and re-invention that any good cover requires. I really hope that Nanci Griffith got to hear this cover before she passed; I'm sure she would have loved it.

Terrific, Carson. I'm an old buzzard musician who lived in Austin all through the 70's. Clark, Van Zandt, Foley, Griffith, and others were my heroes. Wonderful to find a talented youngster who is interested in all this music. It was a golden age for good lyrics.

Carson your singing and your song choices are 💕👍👏 Thank you so much for these lovely gifts of music. Was so fortunate to drive Nancy Griffith and her band at our local folk festival a few years back. She was so kind and endearing. Through song and story she in her one of kind voice helped a very soggy crowd come out from under their tarps and celebrate the joy of music in the rain!

The thing about folk music and all the other good songs Carson sings is that they have something to say. Growing up I was attracted to folk music and songs that had a message. I did not always hold the same view but at least the song said something. It was not just something to dace to. As I've grown older my understanding and views have changed and solidified. There is still something powerful about one acoustic guitar and one good voice. I've never made any comments on Carson's songs that I would consider political or religious. Yet, songs with meanings invite response. The same freedom that provides for songs like this to be heard should be the same freedom that allows those who have another opinion to express themselves. With that in mind, there is a line in this song that goes to my heart. "They'll never take our native soil".... So here is the feeling that stirs in me about this line (please, no hate mail, you are free to have your opinion also) Growing up as a boy in America we said the pledge of allegiance each morning in school. We were influenced to love our country - our native soil and the freedom it provides us. We were taught to respect those who lost their lives fighting for that freedom. We were taught to respect others and authority, to work hard, to treat others as we would like to be treated. We learned to say please, thank you, yes sir and yes mam. We were taught to both fear and love God. I see our country headed down a road that will eventually lead to the taking away of our native soil. It will no longer belong to freedom loving people but will become a government controlled state that is ungodly and doomed to failure. I voted early yesterday, exercising my freedom to do so, and voted for those leaders who I believe most support the way of life I grew up with. If you want America as we know it to survive, I hope you will vote the same. If you have a difference opinion, please feel free to express it - but can you do so without disrespect ?

I grew up with the old Popping Johnny (John Deere) and I've seen the struggle then at a whim, loss of whole farms. It's these kinds of struggles which prepare us to weather out this kind of storm and come out strong on the other side. And it's voices like yours, with good, solid, clear music and sound - than can be understood and related too with a clear mind without need of a drug sodden trance - to help show our way clear, definite direction. Music like yours is sought after. A voice like yours with your music will go far. But stay yourself. You'll always be glad you did. Awesome voice, awesome music and an awesome song. Blessings.

I saw the title and my heart jumped. Nanci is such a great songwriter. And you have been doing Guy Clark. Such awesome material from that group of Texas songwriters (and John Prine in that group too I think.) You are such a talented young man with an awesome voice and great instrumental ability. I think you guys (You, Josh, and your troupe of young musicians) are leading the way as outstanding musicians moving into the future with a firm grasp of the greatest musical material that exists. Keep it up, young un! Maybe "That's the Way that the World Goes 'Round"? I can see you doing that one with humor and a great voice! I could also see you doing some really fabulous Townes Van Zandt stuff...
