Honestly Joe, use smoke... the bees will be so much calmer and make your beekeeping so much more enjoyable. Also use Hoffman self spacing frames (dn5) in the brood chamber, castellations should only be used in honey supers. As regarding the queen..yes they may make a queen but it is what we call a scrub queen (actually they will make many) and it we be inferior because it was as made in an emergency. Anyway love your videos , you've certainly got a lovely place out there. It is 6 degrees C here in Wales and pouring down with rain.

Hello my friend, thank you so much. Ahhh that’s an amazing comment!!! Thank you for your valuable info! yes I do use smoke generally speaking, but that day I ran out of matches haha!!! I know, rookie mistake 🤣 Thank you so much for the amazing information, ahhhh I did not know that regarding the queen, thank you my friend! should I scrap that queen and purchase one? sorry for asking questions, thank you for your time my friend! 💕 🐝 💕 🙏
@welshbeekeepers82753 жыл бұрын
@@Farmerforfun Aaah no problem. Beekeeping can be very rewarding, and in actual fact the climate in Portugal is very conducive and with the correct use of smoke the bees will be very placid. I have worked bees in Israel in just a pair of shorts (no gloves or veil) You know you can purchase a mated queen for just 20 Euros or thereabouts and definitely the best way of making increase. I'm very tempted to buy a small holding in Portugal myself. Wow the prices are so so low.

Next time have some bread to have with the trout. You know how to make a trout, but without a slice of bread... Men we need to wait another full month to have the first sardines from the sea. Roast sardines in charcoal is the best. When i see you put the olive oil i remember Sardines with a slice of oven bread and olive oil. But with COVID almost a disappear and the sunny days ahead of us this going to be the best summer in years. My grandmother used to say (with lot of ancient acknowledgment that pass from generations) cold and rain winter meaning the best taste from fruits, meat and fish, to add a very long summer.

Nice vid. Loved the fishing adventure and the bee segment was fascinating. How often do you have to check on the bees and how long does it take, on average? What happens when there are multiple queen cups? I assume that there can be only one queen per hive?
@Farmerforfun3 жыл бұрын
Awwwwh, thank you so much!!!! I check on them about every 10 days in summer, or sooner if I am nervous if I did something right haha! In winter, we don't check on them, just a little top up of feed every now and again! I am not entirely sure about the queen cups, I believe that if both hatch one will kill the other, but I think the bees make a backup, so to speak, just in case something happened to the only one, because there is no chance for them to make another for they need eggs to feed royal jelly, and without a queen nobody can lay the eggs! At least this is my understanding! Thank you for a lovely comment my friend!

It’s just a silly father son thing we do! He can be seen still trying to catch one when I’m cooking, look at the top of the waterfall hehe! Much love, Joseph.

Nice vid! And what a fantastic piece of land you've got there. But throwing the leftovers of your riverine meal back into the river?! Really...?! Imagine if that would become the norm, the waters and the riverbanks wouldn't be so pristine anymore, now, would they...?! I understand the concept of biodegradability, but that just didn't look right. All the best.
@Farmerforfun3 жыл бұрын
Thank you my friend, fish die in the river all the time, it is exactly the same and no pollution is introduced, everything cooked was produce from the zone, when a lemon tree drops a lemon it doesn’t pollute, nor olives, nor fish etc, I understand your concern, but the crayfish and freshwater shrimps need to eat too, seems like a good alternative to adding to a landfill site. But yes, I take your comments on board my friend! much love 💕 Thank you for watching! Joseph.
@miguelcoelho38773 жыл бұрын
@@Farmerforfun Well, of course, fish die in the water all the time, and other creatures feed on their carcasses -- that's just part of the cycle of life... However -- and I'm not trying to pick a bone here on the subject (excuse the pun, I just couldn't resist it...) -- I think there might be a difference between fishes dead in the water from natural causes, and oily fishbones, no matter how delicious the former owner of those might have been -- in the end, everything gets recycled, innit?! Well, almost everything... Because who's to say that the next guy fishing on that spot, finds the auld fishbones, assumes it is okay to see the remnants of someone's meal lying around, and does not toss the can of coke or the greasy cheeseburger wrappings' into the water, in a kind of copycat type of situation?! It has happened before, maybe not on that spot, but it can happen! I'm not suggesting that you're the kind of individual who's careless about that kind of thing, all I'm saying is that I, personally, wouldn't like to see the leftovers of somebody else's meal on a beautiful nature spot like that. I would find it to be a bit of an eyesore, to be honest. And if it's a matter of leaving it behind for other little creatures to feed upon, why not just bury it?! But, hey, that's just me... Thanks for taking the time to make your point, I know you must be terribly busy on the farm, and all that. All the best.
@Farmerforfun3 жыл бұрын
@@miguelcoelho3877 Totally see your side of the argument and will take that on board for the next time. I would be very upset to find cheeseburger wrappers there and coke cans, so I hope what I did does not have that negative impact on the environment, certainly will not be doing that again, never looked at it like that, thank you for taking the time to explain to me your point! Love the pun haha, Joseph.
@miguelcoelho38773 жыл бұрын
@@Farmerforfun Well, good, thank you for seeing my side of the argument. It should also be worth mentioning that your dropping the fishbones in the river is in no way comparable, in terms of environmental impact, to an empty can of coke or junk food wrappings being carelessly tossed around. I only used these as extreme examples (sadly common in some parts of the world) of bad form regarding one's duty of care for our surroundings -- for our own pleasure as much as anybody else's. Good of you to consider the points that I've made on that subject! All the best.
