Today I'll show you how to paint a Dark Angels Bladeguard in a Grimdark Deathwing bone armor scheme. Today this is considered a very traditional approach but back in the day when I stumbled over it, it really revolutionised my painting and how I think about application of paint, and storytelling with miniatures.

Love this take on Deathwing armour, and the statement about Grimdark being an aesthetic rather than a technique. Experimentation and utilising/discovering new techniques is part of the joy of the hobby for me.
@saltedllama2759

Good points. A lot of things like NMM and dramatic lighting are also not techniques, but a result or effect. How we get there is a matter of experimentation followed by experience. :)

Damn, I don't want you to cut down the fluff of the video. The step by step, full process is what I love about this! It's how I really learn! Maybe have the "main video" short and sweet, and then post the longer ones in a separate channel? Call it Trovarion Deep Cuts or Trovarion Happy Hour, but please, post the longer form!

Thanks! it is pushing most, but the painting videos usually underperform. I don't mean to sound like I blame youtube though, I think I know what the problem is and I just have to change things around a bit :) manly make the videos more precise/shorter for more engagement.

I often click on to videos but this is the one of the first videos I watched (along with your slapchop and your HH Ultramarine recently, both a similar style to this) the whole way through. For me if you keep adding in tutorials like this, along with the more in-depth/longer videos) I would watch more and that would act as a gateway to being more invested to watch to the longer more in depth vids.

So something I do quite often is open a video just to close it, so it's in my watch history and I remember to watch it later when I've got the time for it. The ''watch later'' playlist never purges itself so I just don't use that. It's a shame youtube's algorithm punishes based on watch time because I'm sure a lot of people do the same.

I always enjoy watching your videos because, I feel like I'm learning about painting from a diffent perspective. Your grimdark series is a great example because to me at least you are teaching great techniques but I feel like you're also teaching; intent I want to say I could be using that word wrong but I've learned that placement of colors is just as important as the colors themselves it helps sell the effect your looking for. I've recently found a personal recipe for vertigri and rust and have been enjoying experimenting where the rust and vertigri would occur on my bases I understand why you may have to shorten your videos I hope things even out so your videos get more watch time I love learning something from your videos
