Thanks so much for sharing this video. At 1:25 into the video you discuss the auto-choke valve. My mower would start fine but then sputter out. I changed the spark plug - no difference. Took the top cover off and cleaned out any debris before lubricating the auto-choke valve. MY TEN YEAR-OLD MOWER NOW RUNS LIKE NEW. I will come back to this video in the off-season to give them carburetor a good cleaning. Thanks!

This video is an outstanding guide to do an all-out carburetor swap as well. Instead of having to go through the trouble of cleaning stuff out, sometimes popping in a new carb is better, and they're pretty cheap. My carburetor swap went flawlessly. Thanks for the video.

I too got the same push mower for free (abandoned to the corner of a shed by a lady across the street whose husband is a do-nothing). Leaked gas like a sieve. Thought it might have a fuel line leak. No. To remove the carb I did not have to remove the mower top cover and fuel tank. Just removed the air cleaner housing, two springs, three carb mounting bolts and the carb just dropped right out. The carb was a mess. Looked like crud from ethanol and old gas. All I did was to free up the float after checking the needle seat. I found that the needle was binding up causing the float to stick and flood out the carb something fierce. I cleaned up the large orifice that the needle moves up and down in. With that done it was 10 minutes to bolt everything back up, and she fired on the first pull. Actually it has not failed to start on the first pull since I've owned it. Mulches very cleanly with a sharpened blade, I'd say as well as my Toro Super Recyler, and that is saying something! Wish this thing was self-propelled like the Toro. Oh well, she works great so I'll just use it on those days when I feel I need more exercise. Nice video, by the way!

Thank you so much. I’ve been using manual push mower for the last 5 years then a friend of mine gave me his machine saying there’s something wrong that he doesn’t know about. It was missing a float bowl :-). Tomorrow if God well I’m going to Lowe’s to buy the part. I don’t know if the kit comes with the bolt that holds the bowl. Your video is great. You should show the carb jets/ports being cleaned, and checking if the air cleaner is clean/dirty, and check the air gap on the magneto/coil - all of which can make the lawnmower run rough if not taken care of.

Had same one worked like a charm, and cuts great most the time, i did not take the tank off i just took off the hose from gas to carb bowl held carb bowl line up not to lose the 50:1 and sea foam i put in then i took off the bow check it and it was clean so i just cleaned all the ports out and im good now think mine was bad gas mostly but anyhow always use non ethanol gas some people do not know that or get the additive to take the ethanol out of it from autozone or wal-mart etc but mine was good after replacing the air filter too we are cuttin grass again! Thanks for the video saved me some time on tool sizes i would need!

I've found the best time to change oil is right after running the engine so it's hot. All the sludge is stirred up off the bottom and viscosity is low so when dumping the oil it comes out fast with all that garbage still suspended in a the oil.
@mountainbikekayak8 жыл бұрын
Hello Anthony thanks for viewing will need to do just that. Doubt they ever changed the oil in it there was nothing even registering on the dipstick. Hopefully I can get this running better and do just like you say let it heat up really good and dump that oil out. It is just sludged up but overall a really nice looking lawn mower.

I'm thinking what Pete is, hopefully it's just a partially sheared flywheel key. Seems like the 675 series are the worst at shearing them for some reason. They by far are the ones I have to replace them in the most. But good job on getting it running again!
@mountainbikekayak8 жыл бұрын
Hello Ellis Mowers thanks again for viewing! Yes that was a great suggestion Pete provided as well and I will do that remove the flywheel I keep a bunch of those keys and see what it looks like. Can't see any real damage on the blade but it does not take much if it had an abrupt stop. Plan to also remove the blade and check the balance on it and get a closer look to see to see if it needs sharpening or has hit anything. It cleaned up like a new one hopefully to give an update soon.

I find it interesting you say size of the screws by the hex head size. I've been a machinist for 40+ years and it is weird to quote size as the hex head size. I am looking as to why my one year old DR string trimmer won't start. This is the beginning of the second season and it sucks. This one wasn't DONE RIGHT which is what DR stands for. I paid $500 for this thing and it barely made one season!
@mountainbikekayak6 жыл бұрын
Hello Ross what a great job you have being a machinist! Wow you bought what is suppose to be the best the DR anything machines! It seems the problems if this is a 2 cycle is it could be ethanol gas it just doesn't sit very well for extended periods of time versus Non ethanol. Not sure if that is what occurred in your fairly new DR Trimmer but just the few I have worked on the gaskets get brittle and dried gas clogged it up. My neighbor had a fairly new Mantis Tiller and we ended up putting a new carburetor on it a few years ago, it was just ruined. Since then been using these pre mix cans with non ethanol gas and it has not failed to start again. See if it will start with any carburetor cleaner sprayed in the intake/filter area. If it does attempt it certainly is a fuel/fuel filter problem. Those are nice machines its shame that happen.

@mountainbikekayak6 жыл бұрын
Hello Shane thanks for viewing! A couple of things to check when you pull the rope does it have or feel like it has compression or resistance. Also did you hit anything recently in the yard with it and then it wouldn't start. It almost sounds like a valve is partially stuck on it backfiring and or that flywheel key has been partially sheered throwing the timing off. If this is the first start of the year and being that is a 6.75 engine I presume it close to being 10 years old. Just reply back and see if we can diagnose what it may be and how to correct it. I got videos on replacing the flywheel key as well as freeing up a partially stuck valve.

@mountainbikekayak6 жыл бұрын
Hello Jasmine thanks for viewing! It would be Part # 498260 you can find these on Amazon and or Ebay and the price ranges from $5.00 to $10.00. The kit comes with gaskets, float needle, float pin, seat (for where the needle sits) and may have other parts not really needed. Its almost as cheap to buy a new after market carburetor if your engine is like this one its a autochoke engine (no primer bulb) it would take part # 799866. You can also gets those on Amazon or Ebay from $7.00 to $12.00. Much easier to just replace not as messy either, have used a number of these and they work great. Have several videos installing new carburetors as well. Let me know if you have any more questions Jasmine!

That mower is starving for fuel. when you put the float on it wasn't moving down all the way and won't fill the bowl with enough fuel. most likely a swollen seat in the carb. My tip on the oil. I keep some used oil on hand that's not in bad condition and use it for oil flushes on these type engines when they come by. Don't like to waste new oil.
@mountainbikekayak8 жыл бұрын
Hello al b thanks for viewing! And your right that fixed it! I did not have a rubber seat in that carburetor kit I had already used it for another lawn mower and just went for the cleaning. That did not work just received an order for 10 seats today. After replacing that seat it runs like a new one no more engine miss, what a difference! I will post a follow up video on it. Great idea on the oil I do keep used motor oil for recycling but could always save it just to refill a unknown engine. Changed the oil in this again ran for quite a while it looks pretty clean so got most of that old sludge out.

Hello edgu71eg thanks for viewing! I did not use that kit on this first carburetor cleaning or any parts on this video. The follow up video I took apart the carburetor again and replaced the small rubber seat the needle sits in. That corrected the miss within that engine. They had attempted to get it running again with a new spark plug but it was fuel problem, the spark plug was not gapped correctly they also had put in. It was pretty much neglected the oil was never changed, so changed it and after replacing the rubber needle seat it was running great again. Attached the link here for the 2nd video replacing that seat and how it ran afterwards:: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z16ol4mwlMyDbtE

Hello Domenico thanks for viewing! This is the Part # 498260 you can find these on Amazon and or Ebay. Most are aftermarket showing that part # and they are pretty generic they may have parts not needed for this carburetor. I noticed on Ebay a seller has the OEM Briggs and Stratton kit for $8.95 with free shipping. I have also bought after market complete replacement carburetors if your engine is a autochoke like this one (no primer bulb) its part # 799866. Have had really good luck with those I see one on Ebay for $8.99 free shipping brand new for an autochoke can't beat that price!
