@@Redtash1 I respectfully disagree. Compression is a subset of air. No air, no compression. So there.

@@TheLawnmowerLady What do you mean compression is a subset of air?
@TheLawnmowerLady Жыл бұрын
@@Redtash1 You can't have compression if you don't have air. Air comes first, it's primary. Like saying, Oh! Your forgot about timing. No, timing is a subset of spark. No spark, timing is not that germane to the diagnosis.
@Redtash1 Жыл бұрын
@@TheLawnmowerLady True but you can have air without compression. 4 things are needed in the cylinder all at the same time or the engine won't start and run. Air, fuel, spark and compression, if any 1 of the 4 is missing the engine won't start and run. In the 4 stroke engine what are the names of each of the 4 strokes and what is occurring during each stroke?

ya compression should be there too. several times I've seen people baffled when their engine wouldn't start even though it had spark fuel and air. Turned out the problem was a loose head bolt on the engine. and that's especially true for string trimmer engines. if you have a loose head bolt on a trimmer engine, you'll NEVER get it started. I've seen several good trimmers thrown in the trash and all it needed was a head bolt tightened down hahahahahahaha.

Nice video, good clear instructions! Several points: 1) Many starter fluids have an upper cylinder lubricant, although I don't know how much or how well they work. 2) Gasoline is highly flammable and is dangerous to use as a cleaning solvent so be careful! NO SPARKS and only use outside. One can spray the outside with carb cleaner in a spray can to keep the volume of fluid down. Alternatively, one can get gallon size containers of carburetor dip such as Berryman Chem-Dip. Not the cheapest, but only slightly flammable, and don't need an agitator. None of these chemicals are good to get on your skin...

Wellll finally I found you! I love your clear methodical style and good information. I have had my arsenal of mowing yard Maint gear preserviced as usual this year. All four pieces of equipment have failed to run…after returns to two different shops, for different reasons and one was way overfilled with oil (why? Dunno) I am now assigned as my mechanic!🤣 I have sorted out multiple issues already…my zero turn supposedly needed a new solenoid, it turned out to be dirty contacts at the harness connectors, my push small self propelled mower would not start after three returns to the shop, both are now repaired and run like a champ with your help. my pressure washer just serviced will not crank after a recent service I am now in this one…and this is from two different shops🤣🤣Looking at the carbs I realized that most were not cleaned and two had damaged gaskets or seals 😳😂 I have a large piece of property, and yearly I have all my gear serviced pre season, pay attention to my fuel (stabilize) and check for water… Well I am setting up as I go now to have the parts and tools to do these service and repairs myself. I will even buy an ultrasonic cleaner…way cheaper than to pay for the services. And fun, somehow I like doing this, it is meditative. I have always four small engine tinkering fun. Thanks for your channel it is a game changer. Another new “Girl” mechanic here! Cheers!

Great video! Interesting feature of the water continuously leaving the hose when the engine is off. Did you figure out why?
@TheLawnmowerLady Жыл бұрын
Thanks Tom! The best I can figure is it is meant to work this way? It is a larger gun/wand than mine. My guess it's meant to ease the fumbling of holding the trigger open whilst start a higher pressure machine? Maybe a different spring mechanism behind the ball valve to prevent it from holding trigger pressure without the pump pushing fluid? Now I'm gonna have to go look up the OM. LOL!
@TheLawnmowerLady Жыл бұрын
Interesting, the OM for this unit says nothing about holding the trigger on the wand open whilst starting. Looking up the OM for mine, (2005 Craftsman version with Briggs Pulsa Prime engine) doesn't mention it either??? Who knows?

It’s so cheap I can dump it after use and next time use fresh with hot water out of my basement stationary tub faucet and it is already at 55 degrees C. Saves 20 minutes vs heating from 17C basement temperature, which I think is about 62F.

I haven't noticed that in my dollar and a quarter store. The difference between you and me, is I turn on the machine to let it warm up, then get distracted, and maybe get back to it, several hours later. It's always heated and ready. LOL

@@TheLawnmowerLady Yeah manuals are apparently different for many pressure washers especially when you want to know how long you can run the machine without engagement of the wand handle to prevent damage from the water overheating. The big issue is if the thermal relief valve is working or not but with your wand by passing the water like that it should never be an issue. Maybe they should make them all like that and they would all last longer eh!

I agree! Except for the part where the wand flips around like a snake for a second or two before the pressure builds up enough to close that valve. I got very wet making this video, LOL!

One of the worst looking carburetors I’ve replaced was on a Troy Bilt Storm 2620 snow thrower. The entire thing was filled with bright blue colored rust, the needle was so corroded that it wouldn’t even come out of the seat, and the throttle flap was completely seized up. I still have it sitting in my tool box to prove how bad it is to let old gas and water sit in there for several years.

Great video, but I want point out what you said about your 2stroke squirt used on either. It needs lubrication. Well, that's what the pump needs on a pressure washer. Those plastic cages and rubber seals need lube and that is what water is. You ran it about 500 revs dry. Hook a hose up for 20 seconds first to wet 'em down.

I recommend to the customer to use a gas filter on the gas nozzle of the gas container when filling it , And to use Sta-bil gas additive if stored over the winter or a long period of time . A ounce of provention .and i replace the fuel line if the machine is older than a year . i Have see them fall apart in side and contaminate the fuel system . and to i let the custom know to run the machine until it runs out of gas and close the choke for the winter . Hope this helps all of you . Have fun doing mechanic work

Stella, I respectfully beg to differ with your very first sentence. The old “three things to start/run” is incorrect because it leaves out two more essentials. To really diagnose issues all five requirements should be running through the mechanic’s mind at all times. FACTS - Fuel, Air, Compression, Timing, Spark!!!
@TheLawnmowerLady Жыл бұрын
Thanks Rein. From 30,000ft, I see compression as a subset of air, and timing as a function of spark. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)

Stella, I'm in the market for a magnetic drill hex adapter. I see you using two different ones, a red one for your impact at 5:12 and a blue one for your drill at 23:30. Can you tell me if those are any good, if they are magnetic or have a spring release (requiring a bit more effort to release each time) and how they actually are connected to your two cordless tools. I'm also curious about the actual socket you are using because it almost looks like it has a short piece of hex stock glued into it. Is that correct? Thanks for your time!
@TheLawnmowerLady Жыл бұрын
Thanks Rein- Those I'm using are cheap HF holders as I killed all the shorter ones in this set: amzn.to/42vGzCs Those were, and are the best IMO, but after 8 years of impact driver use ( I don't suspect they are impact rated) the spring indents to hold the bits fell out and the release springs gave up. They were very easy to use at the release collar ejected the bit easily. I still have all the very long ones, in perfect condition. The sockets themselves are just inexpensive (Klutch or Dewalt) 1/4 quick connect nut driver sets: amzn.to/43yTGUP They usually are impact rated. You might notice (or you will from now on) I paint the metric ones with an orange ring of fingernail polish and the SAE are just black. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

@TheLawnmowerLady Жыл бұрын
Depending on the engine, yes, you might need to tip it over. The manuals often don't reflect the different engine needs correctly, as the washer manufacturer can put engines from different manufacturers on the same model. You can try a length of tubing to siphon the oil out.
