You can also wind the line on the spool while it's off the head. That's what the notches are for on the spool. That's the way I've done it for years. But your way ,(adding line w/out removing the spool) seems to be the correct and so much more easy way! Btw , I have my late dad's troy built TB75SS. It's around 20 years old and the only problem we ever had with it was I had to rebuild the carburetor 10 years ago! But today I'm replacing the factory trimmer head with a universal unit and that's how I found your video. Thanks for putting that out and if you know how to remove the head, please reply. 🙏
@fromcarstocomputers72612 жыл бұрын
I have never removed the whole trimmer head so I can't say how to do it. I will say that it sounds like you have a good weed-eater there ( but you will need to change out the fuel lines before they just fall apart from dry-rot.... I have a video on that as well
@Daddyrabbit_22 жыл бұрын
@@fromcarstocomputers7261 I put the universal trimmer head on without taking the factory head off, just the spool. The head isn't removable on my trimmer! I haven't tried it on weeds yet but it seems to be ok on the bench. You're right, I checked the fuel lines and they need to be replaced ASAP! I do small engines as a hobby/necessity and people that know me are always bringing something around for me to fool with. I get stumped every now and again,lol. I'm no mechanic,but I love getting things running right. I'll check out your other videos for sure. At 57 as of yesterday, I'm always learning something new! Thanks for the advice!

@@Daddyrabbit_2 Ok I misunderstood what you were asking. Yes I in fact I have one of those blades for my trimmer but have never installed it ( had it for years now ) as for the new fuel lines I just purchased a universal line kit from home depot that had about 4 different sizes in it and then found the ones that worked. Yes, never too old to learn, but sometimes I feel like I am now forgetting faster than I am learning. and by the way...Happy Birthday

Nice how-to. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and demonstrate the string head reloading. Someone gave me one of these trimmers and I had no idea how to go about it. Your step by step made it a breeze! Thanks again.

I didn't know how to install the line until last night, for years I used a blade attachment because of string issues. Glad that you posted this video. I bought a speedfeed last night with the intentions of replacing the factory trimmer head. I hope the string comes out correctly today, using the factory trimmer head.

Thanks. If you have not opened the trimmer head then maybe you could get your money back.

@@fromcarstocomputers7261 I did open the box. Now after stringing the spool, twice the string unraveled out. I was using square .095 string so maybe I need round string, new spool or new springs inside the spool housing. I pushing towards trying to replacing the complete spool housing with the speed feed 400 but so far I can't find a tool that will stop the shaft from moving. I plan on calling Speedfeed to see if anybody has experienced issues with the troybilt tb475ss. Thanks for your suggestion. I have a lot to learn. Just like my diesel tractor repair projects.

Thank you so much for making this instructional video. I bought this trimmer from somebody, and I could not for the life of me, figure out how to string the trimmer line. Troy-Bilt does not have the owner's manual for my model on their website anymore. My model is a TB475SS. 😃 👏👏👏

Really helpful video. I however found that part of my trimmer head was broken so I got to buy a replacement. I have that identical trimmer head. Do you know the model or part number for it?
@fromcarstocomputers72612 жыл бұрын
If you had of asked my yesterday before I did a restore on my Phone then I could have used a photo stored in my phone to get the model number. But I do not have that photo now and the label with the model number has torn off the weed eater all I can read is the TB5 part but you could try this number TB575SS

@@johnle231 Use the same screwdrivers on that part to work it out. but your must have a broke spring ( or worse ) up inside for it to not go back out ( unless something got jammed up inside is causing it to stick ) I will make a video of some ideas for you to use and post the link here later today

what do you do when the black knob wont unscrew?i cant find a way to keep the head from moving to unscrew it and line wont go though the holes...i hate weedeaters
@fromcarstocomputers72614 жыл бұрын
Use a set of pipe wrench or channellocks large enough to go over the outside part that still moves and then use a pipe wrench like in the video to hold the inner part. be careful not to crush the outer part while doing this

@@timspur7203 Yes I thought about saying 'put it in a vice' but then I thought well lots of people don't have a vice or a place to mount one...plus to put it in a vice some people might flip the weed-eater upside down to use the vice and that could lead to oil getting into their engine head on the weed eater and causing problem, or the fuel leaking out. but yes as long as the vice is large enough then ...put it to use.
