It just feels so sick that people in this time still judge talent on basis of someone's orientation. Its just insane. Troye is talented and is making people comfortable with his music . Period.

100% agree. I have friends who listen to his music but would never go to his concert bc he is gay and are worried about what ppl will assume about them. It is a lot safer to openly support sexually ambiguous artists especially when the general public likes them like conan/harry. Another problem is a lack of support from the lgbt community towards lgbt artists, a lot of the backlash troye got was from fellow gays... it’s sad to see especially since troye does not only openly celebrate who he is in his music but also does a lot to give back to the community whether it be working with lgbt charities/organizations or spreading awareness about issues like conversion therapy. And as far as calling his music boring, it may be a matter of opinion but in what ways he is not offering what more famous mainstream pop stars are specifically other males?? His work is well liked by critics and he receives a lot of praise from his peers in the industry so i dont think the music is the issue.

12:18 I heard this two years late. But thank you for putting this out there. I am a married woman with a teenage kid and I love troye’s songs. But most of the time I am discouraged from playing them out loud for the exact same reason you discussed here. I’ve always felt like people around me are trying to shame me because I love this person’s music. I hope someday I could play it as freely as everyone else does with their favourite music. [ but I do try to flaunt it as much as I can. I think my kid understanding that ‘sexuality alone does not define a person and it’s ok to be whoever you are’ is more important than watching older generation squirming in their seats. I am trying to make a better world for my child in my own small ways.

great video ! I hadn't heard of that Troye Sivan interview or the backlash to it, and honestly it kinda baffles me that people got angry at him. His quote seemed like a perfectly reasonable thought to me. Anyways, I liked your analysis :-)

It's difficult to figure it out cause there's also the music component. But the world is truly not queer friendly yet, and it has repercussions in the music industry too for sure. Although, what about Little Nas X and Girl in Red?

If lil Nas had came out if the gate with cmbyn he wouldn't be where he is today I don't think

Troye is definitely not successful for being gay. He's successful for his art. I'm not a fan of him, and I can see this.
