Seeing all those swimming pools still full of water illustrates to me that most people have no idea how a house can be protected by a good sprinkler system. I don't mean a system using an electric pump or town water. A petrol pump below ground level next to the pool would not require priming and could be set to start and stop remotely. It seems the thought that insurance "will take care of it" is all too common. Don't try and tell me that rooftop sprinklers do not work. They certainly worked in Australia in similar situations.

My friend built a house 25 years ago outer Melbourne vic regional amongst eucalyptus trees and sprinkler system on his colorbond roof and dedicated water tanks. Thankfully no fires have occurred there so far.

Your correct. Why I dont believe in evacuation from residential neighborhood if your healthy and have a N95 Welders Mask and other protection. Each home owner with a pool, pump and hose could have saved their property. Ignition of building materials and fire resistance along with nothing flammable within 5 feet of the structure are critical. Most homes dont have this and that causes the house to house ignition and destruction down a street.

(I really think this area should Install individual water spraying systems onto the individual houses) Also I highly recommend watching the 2 videos uploaded on the "What is going on with shipping?" KZbin channel. He has years of experience fighting fires & explains things that need to be done. I feel for anyone who lost their home. Homes are so expensive, Yet our country has NO SYSTEM if people lose their homes. Two things can be true at the same time: 1-Yes It was a devastating weather event. As well as: 2 -Yes The city did UTTERLY FAIL to prepare their systems. Fire is the #1 threat so It makes no sense how Los Angeles didn't utilize their resources in a better way to prepare them to deal with fires.. The city has to prepare for stuff like this. I Hope we will see them build extensive water pumping systems from the ocean. They should Install water spraying systems onto the individual houses. They could install remote controlled valves so they could control the water pressure. They need to build systems that redirect & collect any rain water that they receive, rather than dumping it back out into the ocean. We need to adapt our systems so they work cohesively with our ecosystem. We should build Desalination plants & We definitely should bring the Beaver's back. Honestly, how are people supposed to recover from a Disaster such as this? We are seeing insurance companies fail us, we are seeing our government fail us. Most people are struggling to afford basic living. Our country is completely unable to handle this kind of stuff. Our country is failing these people. How does our country expect people to rebuild a second house when affording the first house was already a life long achievement.. How can our country keep functioning like this? Our country is in complete denial about the impacts of these disasters. How will our systems continue to function? We have to adapt. We have to.

Rain came FINALLY, and there's been a couple mudslides. Containment of the fires are about 97% as of two days ago. The President came to view the damage and talk about federal help. People are beginning to go back to see if their home survived or not.

The hydrants were off because the system is designed to let the FD respond to a fire in one or maybe a couple structures, there's no such thing as pipes that carry enough water to put out a fire in every building in a neighborhood even if you use all your hoses and try. The trucks farther down the hill were pumping it as fast as they could.

The trees are filled with water. The brush (chaparral) are filled with highly flammable oil similar to gasoline. They burn intensely and the California hills are covered with them.

On Oct. 29, 2024! at Sikorsky headquarters in Stratford, the Rapid Wildfire Response Demonstration showed the effective fusion of Sikorsky’s MATRIX flight autonomy with Rain’s wildfire mission autonomy system to SUPPRESS A FIRE in its incipient stage. Representatives from NASA, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), LOS ANGELES COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT! ORANGE COUNTY FIRE AUTHORITY! and the philanthropic and impact investment community witnessed the demonstration as part of a two-day wildlands firefighting meeting to discuss autonomy. “Government agencies, aerial firefighting operators, and investors are coming together to learn and see how both flight and mission autonomy can help prevent high intensity million-acre wildfires,” said Maxwell Brodie, Rain CEO. “Wildfires cost the United States over $390 billion annually, and multiple risk factors are set to grow up to 30% by 2030. We look forward to demonstrating to lawmakers how autonomous aircraft can stop fires from breaking out, or continue the fight into the NIGHT , AND IN TURBULENT AND SMOKY CONDITIONS, WHERE CREWED AIRCRAFT WOULDN'T VENTURE.” During the 30-minute flight demonstration, guests used a tablet to command the Black Hawk aircraft to take off, search and find the fire, then drop water from a Bambi Bucket slung 60 feet beneath the aircraft. Each of three successive water drops extinguished a 12-inch diameter propane-fueled fire ring emitting a 3-to-6-inch-tall flame, demonstrating the precision of the Rain fire perception and targeting capability. The Rain system also rapidly adjusted the flight path to account for an 8-to-10-knot crosswind during each water drop.
