Excellent work. I’ve got an old flatbed that was on a dually pickup and I’ve been looking for ideas to cut it down and fit it to my 1976 F150 4x4. You gave me some great ideas for how to modify mine.

YEAH THE AMMO CAN IS A GREAT IDEA FOR LOTS OF PROJECTS, MET A MOTORCYCLE GUY THAT HAD A KTM CYCLE AND DID NOT TO PAY 2000.00 OR MORE FOR CYCLE LUAGGE, SO HE BOUGHT 2 20MM AMMO CANS AND THE PROPER BRACKETS FOR HIS CYCLE AND HE NOW HAD SIDE BAGS, FOR THE TOP TRUNK HE USED A RADIO BOX, MILITARY VIETNAM ISSUE, IT LOOKED GREAT. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR VIDEOS ON CHEVY STUFF, JUST FINISHED WATCHING THE TWIN STICK VIDEO AND THE 205 CASE REBUILD FOR THE 10TH TIME, GREAT VIDEOS. YEAH I HAVE A 1974 CHEVY LONG BOX CHEYENNE DELUXE, WAS GOING TO PUT A SM465 IN IT BUT TOO MANY CHANGES FOR RIGHT NOW, GOING TO GET THE 350 AUTO REBUILT AND I WILL REBUILD THE T-CASE THANKS TO YOUR VIDEO AND GET MY NEW 355 CID ENGINE IN. AND GET THE TRUCK ROLLING. ONE QUESTION, CAN YOU STILL TWIN STICK THE 205 IF YOU ARE RUNNING A AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION? THANKS
@GebBuilt

You may have tapered down the back for looks but it's actually a good practice if you're building a truck that will see any trail driving. If you're making tight turns or tight fits on the trail the first part of the that will drag on a tree or rock is the corner and it doesn't have to be there otherwise for the vehicle to function, so why not chop it.

did you leave the bed on when you were making this ? And did you just cut the sides off of the bed with a saw?
@GebBuilt
@GebBuilt 7 жыл бұрын
Good questions! I left the bed on and bolted tightly to the frame for the entire process until it was time to paint and do some finishing touches underneath. I trimmed the bed down with an angle grinder and cutoff wheel, but I would imagine that a sawzall would do fine as well. Thank you for watching and the questions! God Bless!

I plan on building something like this for my truck what is the height of the bed sides and do they angle out a little?
@GebBuilt
@GebBuilt 7 жыл бұрын
Good question. The bed sides are at a 90 degree angle to the bed floor. I do not recall at the moment exactly how tall I built the sides but 17" from floor to top rail rings a bell. My sides are not as tall as stock bed sides if that helps. When I built this and as I do with many custom builds I will sketch it out to give myself an idea and then I physically mock the project up as I go. Doing it this way works well for me but sometimes I do not document every detail and final measurement. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Have a blast with your build! God Bless!

put the canister and the ammo box on the back here the tire is and put the tire in the bed.
@GebBuilt
@GebBuilt 9 жыл бұрын
I do like the idea of the cans on the back but a tire in the bed is a huge pet peeve of mine. I grew up farming and moving spare tires around in truck beds to make room for loads, so taking up precious bed space with a tire is not an option for me. I have considered a roof rack for the tire, but I'm not too fond of that look either. Quite the dilemma because I also don't like the weight on the tail gate! We'll figure it out some day😊
@Ainsley69420
@Ainsley69420 9 жыл бұрын
Then you should make a cage around the cab of the truck and put the tire on top (just suggestions)

Hey Geb, approximately how much do you think the whole bed weighs ?
@GebBuilt
@GebBuilt 8 жыл бұрын
I don't know the exact weight and I wish I'd have figured it out because you aren't the only person wondering. I can tell you that my bed behaved the same way on the cherry picker as the stock long bed did- meaning that I would guess them to be very close in weight. Thank you for commenting and watching! God bless!

I'm trying to do something like this on my 84 ford. The outer skin is rotted and basically wrecked. any pointers on doing this cheap? It's just a 2wd and I have a keg going in the bed for a fuel cell
@GebBuilt

I used as much used material as I possibly could. Most of the pipe was stuff that I had collected over the years out at my dad's farm. I think I only spent 35$ on the rectangle tube which was used from a welding shop as well. Scour your local junk yard or steel recycling yard for usable material! Most of all, have fun with your project! God Bless!
