I used the regular Rustoleum spray on the bed of my Tacoma twenty years ago and it held up very well. I used my truck like a truck, not a mall crawler. I just resprayed the spots that got gouged. I just gave that 2003 Tacoma to my son two weeks ago! I also used it to paint the front and rear bumpers of my Chevy van and it holds up very well even after using the bumpers as steps. I haven't had to respray them yet.

I used duplicolor bed liner spray on the sides of the samurai. I used the roll on type on the bed. The duplicolor was durable and has a nice non abrasive texture and washes dirt off easily. It holds up well, but does fade a bit after a year and half, so i recoat after about 1 1/2 to 2 years. Clean the spray tip after each use to keep the can longer.

To "HELP" keep from clogging. Put duplicolor color can in small bucket and fill with warm water. Let sit for 5-10 mins. Tip 2- Every 10-20 seconds turn can upside down and spray quickly to help from getting clogged and also to help get UNclogged.

I had the same issue with duplicolor cans. They all clogged up. I two toned my duramax and sprayed the rockers with it and it clogged up. Very nice quality and made the truck look awesome while also protecting the sides from rocks. Since I work at an asphalt plant and drive through a quarry to get to it, the truck got a good beating every day. Very nice quality from duplicolor

The cheap rust-O works good. Used it recently. Sprayed well too. I heard if u hold the can upside down for a second and give it a quick spray as u finish, it supposed to "unclog" the nozzle. Of course u should wipe the nozzle with a clean rag as well.

Try keeping the spray tip clog free by spraying with the can upside-down for a few seconds at a piece of scrap material (I use cardboard) just long enough to clear the paint from the nozzle. Not too long or you’ll loose pressure in the can. I’ve found this tip on some cans of common spray paint and have found it to be generally useful. I can’t speak for the thicker liner paint but I have multiple cans of Dupli-Color paints on my shelf for wheels and the plasti-dip style, leftover from past projects that are still good today.
@joerootsr
@joerootsr 6 жыл бұрын
That is a good tip. In this case the cans were clogging after 20 seconds of spraying on the very first time. Sometimes turning them upside down and spraying would work. Other times they just had to be cleaned with mineral spirits. What you mentioned works very good for partially used cans of paint going back on the shelf.
@MtnBadger

That's the catch 22 on Dupli Color, it's thick enough to give the finish you want so it's thick enough to clog the tip and require extra effort. There ya go... lol

We apply this to the backs of bronze plates that stay outdoors. We found that after Duplicolor changed their cans about a year and a half ago, the application of this product changed dramatically. Seems they went to a cheaper nozzle system because although they said the product formula wasn't changed, the way it sprayed certainly did. I've written to them asking about this spray problem but nothing constructive was written back. They asked if i wanted the money back or replacements sent out to us. I just want them to fix what got changed nozzle wise. It is a great product, but applying it sucks!!
@matthunneshagen6282
@matthunneshagen6282 5 жыл бұрын
UPDATE: 12-2019 They obviously knew they screwed up because they changed their nozzles again, and the smell is noticeably different from before. I can say that it will still stop occasionally but not like before. Sprays very hard and heavy now like before.

I used the first one in video by Rustoleum and you were lucky to get through half the can without it clogging beyond repair. Luckily I had some other spray can paint that I could swap tips and get through most of one can. Better by more than you need in case you get stuck not getting to use it all in one can.

used all 3 for different projects around the farm. It's all about shaking the crap out of it before you start to use it and then constantly keep shaking while spraying. I've found Rust oleum is best in spray can & roll on. If Your Doing a big project and want it to last, use the roll on.

I think for the money and the least amount of problems applying my bet is with the Restroleum Pro! There’s nothing worse then spraying and being interrupted with cleaning the tip every minute or two. It affects your application and eventual looks and coverage! I’m going with Restroleum Pro! Restroleum Spray products have never let me down!

With these thick sprays it’s not a manufacture issue that they clog. if you keep the cans warm and let them sit in warm water before using and not in use they spray so much better. Also, turn each can upside down to shoot a quick spray to clear the nozzle before turning it upright to shoot the spray project

I used the cheaper Rust-Oleum on the Smitty bilt steps on my ram. One can per side with a white high quality spray primer base over the original powder coat. I didn't count the coats, I just kept going until empty. It's been 8 months and 14k miles now and it's held up extremely well. Even the part that gets hammered the most, behind the front wheel. I laid it down extra there at the bottom on the bend. I think I might try to do my rims next. Only issue I have is it's a fine dust magnet. But then again so is my linex bed.

I used this stuff for strengthening specific materials I sold and give it a rough texture so it lasted. The standard rustoleum worked best. Pro was a bit more dense and uniform but for grip it was lacking and it cost more. I tried several other brands found at Walmart and home depot and best value and texture was still the same. Also tried krilon and it was not great.

I like the texture of the Dupli-color as well. Too bad the products that give you texture also clog up easier. I went with basic Rustoleum ( looks like basic black spray paint almost no texture) and put a final coat of Rustoleum Pro on top and it's a little better. I tried the Harbor Freight version of spray bed liner--like the texture, but it clogged up almost from the get go.

@jamesbonanno3359 6 жыл бұрын
Joe Root yes, it's working out very well. As you may or may not know Jeep Wranglers are known for their soft tops leak. Many times I would come out in the morning after a rain and the carpet would be wet. Also when I go 4-wheeling a couple times I got stuck in some seriously deep water about 3 feet high with some water getting into the cabin. Now it's as simple as pulling the drain plugs and hosing It down.

Wasted money....use Rustoleum Peel Coat. It is smother than plasti dip and peels off easier but holds up to a pressure washer.

I used the regular Rustoleum ,and the pick up tubes inside the can kept coming off. Then they only spray up-side down. Very disappointing.

We've had no issues of it coming off the backs of our bronze plates either from heat or cold. They aren't exposed to direct sunlight like it would on a truck bed , but it does not soften up from heating, or chip away.

These look simpler than the catalytized spray, and they are easier to apply, but are they as strong?

stay away from the aerosol spray can garbage if you want to do the bed of your truck yourself roll it on and use a two part system if you can find it, there is no silver bullet the nozels the pro's use are massive with a lot of air pushing on the gun plus they use two part systems meaning they mix two solutions, they react, then they spray

I really wish you'd have tested the durability of the liners - hammerstrike, screwdriver drag, knife cut, and scraper to the edges... would have taken less time than the masking job. If you've still got the panel, why not take 10 minutes and give us the information we came here for in the first place?

No doubt that would work better. That material was also an unprepped piece of an old furnace. It was also rather cold in the garage. I would definitely not want it leaking through if it was a hard line up against paint on a vehicle.

How abut doing the inside of your Jon Boat with it and then take it out on the lake for all day fishing when its about 100 degrees out side and let us know if you feel like a slab of bacon at the end of the day. I am going to be redoing a Jon Boat over the winter and wondering if it is good to use for that.

I never thought about a boat floor. Maybe you could fry your fish on it! I've heard of people using porch paint with sand in it for traction for that. No experience here though.

Duplicolor is the best. I bought both myself. Rust-Oleum bottle went really fast and dried crappy. The duplicolor was so much better. Thicker and tougher look and feel.
