I have no idea why you went from underneath. It’s wide open through the tail light. Better leverage, and a better angle to access the damage is through the light

How did you go about heating up the area?

I use a torch through a tube to keep proper distance and glide it over the area I’m about to push with intensity. Metal holds onto heat pretty well and I get it hot enough to not have paint break issues. What I don’t like about a heat gun is I can’t use it anywhere and it’s a pain to have running all the time and not a necessity. Be well have fun!
