Well He doesn’t Know Nothing. Got A Friend that lives In Fresno , California. He Used to Haul Containers out of the Port of Long Beach Way Back in the 1980’s he Was Getting $750.00 a Load. Then some Hispanic Drivers Get in there And Started Hauling It $250.00 a Load. And This was way back In The Mid 1980’s. I remember In 2004 they was this Broker that Payed any CarHauler $13,000 in Cash to haul wrecked Vehicles From Woburn , Massachusetts to Brownsville,Texas and Some Hispanic Drivers cut it to $6000.00 a load.

They can afford to live on less because their women have all those kids so they get a lot of food stamps & WIC & free healthcare, plus they're cool with having 3 families per household. Years ago I remember Farmers in 1970’s and 1980’s Were Hiring Immigrant Workers and Getting Them Their Green Cards to Work Legally in the USA. They Provided them with Housing and Vehicles to Drive. And they Didn’t Have to pay them Rent. All they had to do was Work they got Paid The Minimum Wage at that time was $3.15-$3.35 an hour. But they Did get them Legal Citizenship. But during Reagan’s Presidency he Got rid of the Import Tax. And what happened a lot Companies in the USA Moved operations South of the Border and Overseas for Cheap Labor and No Taxes for Imports. That was The Beginning of It then everyone Claims it was Bill Clinton that started it Nope it was Reagan/ Bush Administration that Created it. Bush Signed that NAFTA Agreement with The Canadian Premier, And the Mexican President in December 1992. A month before he Left the White House. GM and Chrysler&Dodge Built and opened up Plants in 1995 & 1996. This is what they did . They Had Free housing, Schools, and Hospitals Around those Plants. As long as Any Mexican Citizen Stayed Employed there. They were Paying them $5.25 An Hour to compare with US and Canadian Autoworkers who were making $17.00- $24.00 an Hour at that time. And GM And Dodge Closed Plants in Certain States like GM’s Tarrytown,NY, Framingham,MA, Doraville,Georgia. And Dodges St Louis MO, and Newark, New Jersey Plants. Back In the mid to late Nineteen nineties. But guess What which Party Is the One that Gave these Corporations Big Tax Breaks for Creating Jobs in Other Countries and Unemployed American Workers. I don’t think so. Regulations and mandates never fix anything it just rearranges the board. California regulated and mandated $20 an hour minimum for fast food workers and now fast food in LA is a luxury item. The government mandated lockdowns then printed money and gave it away. Which in my opinion was the two pump pre-cum that f’d the economy and started the current out of hand inflation situation. The government needs to stay out of it. Trucking companies that don’t want to or can’t afford to run at the sub par rates obviously will need to refuse to run and hold out or step out. Eventually the companies running cheap freight will have equipment issues that they can’t afford to fix. With all the belly up companies and broken down trucks eventually the supply of trucks available won’t be enough and shippers will have to cough up the demand for higher rates. Regulations and mandates are tyrannical and need to be kept to a minimum. To a person who values freedom, big daddy government telling you can’t do something is the worst. People need to figure things out for themselves and not go crying to big daddy government to solve their problems. I mean I’m not completely against government I just don’t think government needs to be acting like a helicopter parent. One of the reasons I like trucking is because I don’t have a supervisor or manager breathing down my neck everyday.

I had a TQL agent who offered me a load at a $1.80 a mile, I told him thanks but no thank you and good luck finding a carrier to move that load for you. He told me I will get one of those Latino or Mexican driver to move it less than a $1.80. For at least the last 20 years, billions of dollars per year have been lost out of the American trucking industry by the government allowing U.S. Freight to be brokered from foreign countries in Eastern Europe, The Philippines and Mexico at criminally low rates to American owner operators. When I had my truck leased on to LandStar, they had individual agencies that had more than 30 different agency codes solely to precipitate them totally screwing owner operators, they were triple brokering loads and they were additionally bankrupting BCO / Owner Operators by forcing BCOs to repair nearly everything on their truck every 120 days, while LandStar had thousands of its trailers that hadn't been inspected in more than a year and if LandStar's equipment couldn't pass LandStar's 120 day inspection, LandStar would threaten for fire their LandStar Inspectors until they and TA truck stops could find a LandStar Inspector that would put a Passing Federal Inspection Sticker on a piece of LandStar equipment that couldn't pass inspection, while if a BCO / Owner Operator's equipment couldn't pass inspection for whatever reason, they be put out of service in LandStar's system and be forced to be towed to a truck dealership or lose their contract on the spot... That's precisely why tens of thousands of BCO / Owner Operators have gone bankrupt at LandStar... They're being subjected to insanely unfair and highly illegal businesse practices.

I don't entirely agree with his opinions. But I can't figure out why freight is soooo cheap on the east coast. I've seen 1.30 a mile rates. Between tolls & fuel you have to come out of pocket just to get out of there. Atlanta is a tough place too. I believe it's still too many trucks & brokers screwing the carriers. Great video.

Furthermore, many of these carriers are also hiring individuals that barely have or don’t have a CDL at all can’t speak English. They are definitely some of the poorest individuals in the workforce and if you pay them $20 an hour, they feel rich because they haven’t fully jumped into The American Dream and figured out all of the different things that you need in order to Survive in this country long-term I mean they’re coming over here and they literally only pay taxes on the money they’re making from the employment but other than that they have no house no car no insurance no nothing. They’re OK with it. They didn’t have it before at least they now have money And more and more we let the southern the more and more it will this type of stuff from restaurants to Trucking to construction. All of that this is the answer we wanted was more pay higher pay the answer we’re getting is the pay is not going any higher. We’re gonna hire cheaper help, cut some things in order that we can open and viable

I feel you brother. Some of the owners are docile and will take whatever is offered. I know of at least 20 drivers that sold their trucks and became company drivers. I was chopping it with a driver in socal that said owners in California are having to clear $600k just to pay themselves $100k.

In March I saw .94 per mile. That was a rate for O/O in 1989-1992 30 plus year old rates with equipment...insurance...fuel ect of today UNBELIEVABLE !!!

This is why I didn’t get my own truck due to regulations, taxes, cost of fuel, overhead and some of the ridiculous low rates. Last company I worked for paid their owner ops about a dollar ten a mile but that was seventeen years ago. Times changed along with the cost of expenses, the only thing that hasn’t changed is the low rates owner operators are being asked to take.

If you check the load boards 90% loads are listed around $1 to $1:40 per mile. I called DAT load board managements and ask them that why you allow your shippers and brokers to list that cheap loads. I am sitting here in Dansville NY for past three days and refusing cheap loads but then I got frustrated because I do have fixed amount of overhead which I pay every month no matter I do work or not. That forced me some time to do a cheaper load. There should be a minimum amount per mile which must be regulated but Government also becomes part of lobbyist and make the rules which help only few big organizations and kills hundreds of thousands owner operators.

I’m in the east coast and pa ,md.nj,ny and all surrounding areas pay so bad I decided to sit 4 days to wait for the load I knew would pay me good I have always refused cheap freight I will deadhead thousands of miles out of spite against cheap loads ….my advice to the guys out here don’t wait for some giant movement just say no to the brokers and only go to the spots that will pay you and find unique routes that you can get onto that many don’t don’t touch
