I was a truck driver for 26 years and became a city bus driver last year. The best thing with being a city bus driver is that the police doesn't bother you. When they see a truck driver they see a criminal that they need to catch.
@DoubleDeckerAnton3 жыл бұрын
Yes Peter, I feel the same here too. The police work with the bus drivers and not against them. The police have a special unit just to work with any bus driver related incidents.

I did bus driving for 6 years and truck driving for 1 year. I gotta say that I really miss bus driving. As of yesterday I resigned as truck driver. At least I tried both and realized that bus driving is totally for me. Bus driving is more secure from recession and the majority of bus agencies they have unions.

Drove buses for 10 years and have to say job is easy but poor pay. Passengers are horrible little runts. Now on coaches for last 3 years and love it apart from the taxi and bikes in London. But doing my class 2 cause pay is better
@Trav-the-trucker3 жыл бұрын
It depends what your personal goals and interests are, I did my PCV and HGV in 2003 unsure what I wanted to do. I did a year on class 2 and got made redundant and relatively unexperienced I struggled to find anything else so I went on the buses for a few years. 36 hours a week felt like 100 hours and the pay was abysmal. Eventually I got back into truck driving and have done it ever since. The routine and familiarity of being a bus driver definitely has its benefits however I couldn't personally cope with the arrogant rude and self entitled Passengers and often found myself justifying why I had told a customer straight. I much prefer being on my own I do around 50 hours a week, plenty of variety and home every night. £14.50 an hour Great benefits and overtime at time and a half after 40 hours. Modern reliable kit unlike the buses most depots run and not chasing unrealistic timetables trying to catch up time because of dawdling customers or an issue with a clapped out old service bus. Each to their own. I'm not knocking the bus industry at all but I've done both and happy I stuck with class 1.
@DoubleDeckerAnton3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul. Yes its important to have personal goals and interests. It sounds like you've really enjoyed the trucking since 2003. It's good to hear from truckers like yourself and to get feedback on what's it's like over the years. Thanks.

Hi Paul, I have managed to acquire my D licence and C + E license through the military and I'm scratching my head which route I want to go down, the job you described as a truck driver (being home every night etc) are those jobs rare to find or do you work your way into having a comfortable life with truck driving?
@Trav-the-trucker3 жыл бұрын
@@harrysenior1449 Hi, Years ago you would have had to earn your place in a cushy job but nowadays there is so much available. There are a lot of Tramping (away all week) jobs some with occasional nights out but also a lot of day jobs too. I personally would avoid anything that's multidrop say 7 to 15 drops its very tedious and frustrating work I would also avoid cage work delivering milk or food in cages to shops....speaking from experience it grinds you down and involves a lot of patience early (2am) starts and is hard graft. Trunking work is the best option and usually pretty well paid. The likes of DHL or Hermes, DPD etc. I work for a logistics firm that specialises in Automotive distribution and white goods. Usually load out of the same places every morning take it to Northampton then reload or swap trailers in corby. I don't work weekends and I'm usually done in time to collect my boy from school if I start at 4am. If I am on a 6am start I'm home for teatime. Great company and easily see £650 to £700 in the bank each week. Most places will employ new pass or relatively inexperienced drivers too if they have the right attitude. My friend only passed a few months ago and got a job at DHL he does the same route every shift 9 hours a day and is on 34k running to Coventry and back every day. Respectable wage good home life and work balance and gaining confidence and experience as he goes. He came from driving buses for £9.80 an hour. Good luck hope this helps a bit. 👍

I’ve been out of bus driving for the past year, no particular reason, but excited to be back in a few weeks, wages are going up as a bus driver now as well. Truck driving seems good was offered £30 a hour by someone not convinced yet though, mainly all the licence crap. But yea back on the buses here in West Midlands, gonna be fun.

here in America there are supply chain problems and the products are not getting to the stores, this is due in part to the shortage of experienced truck drivers. Many of the older experienced truck drivers are retiring quicker than they can train new young truck drivers resulting in supply flow slow downs so as you can imagine it is a job that is in high demand right now
@DoubleDeckerAnton3 жыл бұрын
Yes Evan, it seems that a lot of countries are needing truck drivers. They need to train double or triple the amount of new truck drivers. This will take many months to clear. We are living in desperate times now.

If I was to apply for London united I’d particularly want to drive the K2 or 281 due to them being bus routes that I have grown up using. For Go ahead it would be the 131 or 57.
