Truck Outlets Not Working - Is your GCFI tripped??

Semi trucks have outlets in them and sometimes they stop working and you don't know why. It could be that the truck inverter GCFI outlet has been tripped.
A lot of things could cause your truck outlets to not work but here is a video showing you a really simple thing you should always check before calling for help.

U just saved me an expensive trip to Freightliner sir. Was making coffee, then my 120v outlets went out all of a sudden. I’m like what the F*** cuz I really needed my caffeine fix this morning😅😅and a coffee pot shouldn’t trip a 1500 watt inverter. Just spent 15 min pulling every dam fuse in the passenger fuse box to no avail. Googled 2020 cascadia 120v outlets not working.. and just like 4 wheelers who leave their brains in the driveway once entering their pov and billy big rigger who can’t use a turn signal,😅 magically ur vid suggestion came up and sure enough, my inverter in the side box was tripped. While anything is possible, the GFCI outlet shouldn't affect the hotel outlets inside the truck. My GFCI outlet was tripped when i picked up my 2020 and i used the hotel plugs for several days before i attempted to use the plugs on the inverter. I had to reset it.

My GCFI in my Volvo VNL 860 shows no light. Reset does not pop out test because test is already out. I am assuming it's not the fuse At the battery block though because the in cab panel still works. It's just the outlets from the inverter do not ...

It is tough to know. Certainly could be a fuse and always check for that. But we have seen bad inverters or defective cables too.

That is not tied to the inverter, that is hooked up to the batteries. If the car adapter ports are not working then that is a completely different wiring issue than this.

We have run into that too, usually it means the GCFI outlet is broken and needs to be replaced. Much cheaper than a new inverter though.

Well it is worth a try, but I would think E05 would have a further problem because it implies there is an overload that is tied to shore power. But if it was a fluke and you have unplugged some things that possibly caused the overload then yes this could work.

Well this video covers one issue it could be, but you could have too many things plugged in, one big thing plugged in that is taking too much power, or a bad appliance that is shorting things out, etc. Best way to approach this. You need to unplug everything except one item. Run down the road with that one thing plugged in. See if the inverter trips, if not that item is probably ok. Now unplug it and plug in another item. Keep doing this until you find which item trips the inverter. If none of them do then start plugging multiple things in together until you trip it.

Fixed my problem right away. I reset the inverter but I didn’t power it on by the sleeper birth. Lesson learned. And kenworth told me I had to wait a week to bring it in for warrantee. Foh

Have a different problem. First things to check is if you have an item plugged in that is causing the problem. If you have your own fridge in there start by unplugging that and running for a day. If that doesn't do it then unplug your microwave, if not that then your TV, etc. Most commonly it is a bad item that is shorting out your system. And if that doesn't do it then the system has a problem like a bad inverter or damaged wiring.

@@jmb5742 I have not looked, but it should. Anytime you install an inverter aftermarket you have to put in a large fuse providing power to your inverter so that you don't fry your inverter.

It’s possible you may have a separate issue. Be sure you try and push the test and reset buttons, once you push it once you can’t push it again until you push the other button. But this is just one possible solution. It’s possible you also have a bad outlet, or a bad inverter, or a wiring problem. There are other problems that can occur, but this is a pretty common simple fix if it’s just needs to be reset.

@@thehighwayhustler then my next suggestion would be to see if you feel it clicking at all when you push the test or reset buttons? I had one of these inverters I couldn’t feel the quick and when we took it in they found out that the GFCI outlet had gone bad so it wouldn’t reset.
