In this video, we meet Christine who lives full-time in a Four-Wheel camper on a Toyota pickup. You may be wondering how she can live in such a small space, but she is delighted with the amount of room and comfort it gives her and the many places in the back country it allows her to go. It may be the ideal balance of comfort and mobility.

I just signed the dotted line on a truck camper and a one ton diesel 4 x 4 last week. Well done Christine! I could have done many RV options but agree with your philosophy of being nimble and enjoying a simpler life in nature... yet still having the basic creature comforts! I'm pushing retirement so good for you for doing this earlier! Smart girl!!! Thanks Bob for sharing inspirational folks like this with us viewers!

It would’ve been better to buy a travato 59K because by the time you buy the truck and the trailer It’s almost the same price and you have a nice bathroom and you can park anywhere. They are really nice because the bathroom is in the back and nothings obstructing the view along the inside

I gotta tell ya Bob I'm addicted to watching your videos, bc I really really want to do this, live this way, but try telling my husband he doesn't agree.. Even though we are broke after paying 1000.00 month for rent , cable is 280$ , electric bill 260$ , car insurance, car payment 380$ , credit cards ( I have 5 ) , so when two people are disabled, but not in wheelchairs , we both love camping, no joke, after paying just our bills we are not only broke we are constantly overdrawn too.. I'm tired of it , I'm not happy, I have tons of stuff that doesn't make me happy , he just doesn't like change I guess idk what it is with him. our son and his family live in Florida , we never see him maybe once every two years, we live up north , I'm sick of just sitting here day in day out, so hopefully he'll think about it at least..I told him to get on UTUBE and subscribe to your channel , I told him how much he'll love watching the tours of rigs..still waiting.. we'll see, Thanks so much Bob for giving me the choice of not being stuck in life 😎

We retire in 5 mths just bought a small camper for our short box truck, it's also a lite camper. Come March 2021 we are hitting the road, selling off everything! We have no debt and decent pensions, hope to save for the future, or what comes our way! Getting solar installed another auxiliary battery/isolator.... We had planned on converting a van, but we had the truck and its 4x4. Camper same room as most vans!

Bob, when you interview people with truck campers, I wish you would ask how often they separate the camper from the truck. What's more difficult breaking camp to run to town/site see with both, or leave the camper and use the truck by itself?
@OldePete
@OldePete 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. What you describe is I kinda what I thought. The idea of setting up camp for like a week and separating (then re-connecting) the camper to use the truck separately seems like too much of a hassle to me; not to mention the stability of the camper sitting on the 4? jacks, with someone moving around inside, plus wind... doesn't seem too practical.

I love it. Very cozy and clean. Talking about fear at the end- smaller is safer for a solo female than an Airstream trailer. Not only do you have more mobility and can get out faster, but you have access to your cab and don't have to risk going outside if push came to shove. I just had my first solo night in my new-to-me RV, and to be honest, even though I was at a sketchy Walmart, I was too tired to be scared! lol

This is great - just what I needed. I have been blessed to find in the middle of summer - a Hawk popup for a reasonable price and I can just fit all my necessities in there - clothes, dishes, computer and a few books and got it for the same reasons this great gal did - to be nimble and go places you can't go with other setups. The fact that she is doing what I am getting ready to do is super inspiring. I too want to work out of the camper as a writer. I also have a shower tent - that being the most annoying part of the setup - as I hate to go outside at night to do those necessities, but a class C or a trailer is just not going to work for going onto the back trails! I'm going to see if I can set it up to deal with the cold and stay up North through the cold months.

Common misconception about 4 wheel drive is that you can't get stuck....NO...you just get yourself stuck worst than if you where in 2 wheel drive!!! If you get yourself stuck while in 2WD, switching to 4WD will more than likely get you out. You still need to know the limitations of your vehicle in 4WD and NOT to exceed those limitations.
@Ron4885
@Ron4885 7 жыл бұрын
Barney, you're absolutely correct. I bought my first 4x4 (Nissan Xterra) and thought 'nothing can stop me now'. Wrong!. In a few cases the education came the hard way. The 2WD to 4WD technic to 'unstuck' does work very well. Wish I'd read your comment here about 8 years ago.hehe. I do still love my 4x4 though. ;-)
@barneymerrill3188
@barneymerrill3188 7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely....get opposite wheels in the air, front & rear at the same time and you're going nowhere fast!!! To really get out there, you'll need lockers and a winch (or come-a-long) to pull yourself out. You can't be too prepared if you're going out in the boonies by yourself!
@UnixCommando
@UnixCommando 7 жыл бұрын
Plus 1 Barney. Also, 4WD doesn't give you and advantage for stopping. Always drive in 2WD so you can feel the road and only use 4WD to get out of trouble.
@duane4972
@duane4972 7 жыл бұрын
Please don't wait till you get stuck to put it in 4x4, That is what novices do, and it doesn't always work! Use it when you leave the pavement, and don't be afraid to use low range, it takes a lot of stress off your transmission and allows you to go slower and not tear your vehicle up. This advice comes from 30 years experience as a land surveyor, driving where there are no roads.
@ravenfeather7087
@ravenfeather7087 7 жыл бұрын
Some of the comments regarding 4-wheel drive as compared to 2-wheel drive seem to excessively play down the advantages of 4-wheel drive. Yes, once stuck a 4 X 4 can be really stuck, but even for the someone with limited off-read driving skills there is a world of difference and with a little practice a 4 X 4 is comparatively almost unstoppable. Deep sand or snow will do it and mud too if you are silly enough to go places where you can sink to your axles. And to deal with those situations, being really stuck, I'd rather have a set of 4 tire chains as compared to a winch. In many places there is nowhere to anchor a winch. And for going backwards, unless you really know what you're doing running a winch underneath a vehicle can cause can cause some real problems. And don't forget a shovel and a good jack or two! Being in 4-wheel drive does give some advantage in regard to stopping and makes it possible to control the direction of a vehicle under very slippery conditions (both when accelerating and decelerating). Being in 4-wheel drive makes it possible to decelerate using the engine compression as it slows the tires on both axles as compared to only the front or rear wheels when in 2-wheel drive. There is simply more friction due to the greater area of tire meeting the substrate. Plus you better control the direction of your vehicle if you front axle is engaged (by using the front tires to "pull" the front of your vehicle in one direction or the other). About the worst thing you can do when trying to stop in "slick" icy or muddy conditions is to stand on the brakes. If you simply slap on the binders any advantage that 4-wheel drive could provide is negated.

700rwhp Im not an American and i won't even pretend to understand your guys fascination for guns. But i think she said it well in the video. It's just very very rare to meet a wacko that wants to harm her in general, and even rarer out in the outback.. I would argue it's YOU 700whp who swallows the fear mongering going on in mainstream media. All people hear about is crimes and wars. When statistically as a matter of fact, Humanity have never been safer, there has never been less deaths, crimes, wars, in the history of humanity

I love your rig, so comfy and warm and organized and clean. Just the right size of me and my Chi. I have been thinking about camper vans because of more than one way out and in also more windows. Now, you have shown me another way. I love what you have done here.

She's mobile so probably not often in that situation and when she is maybe she stays at RV parks, most have hot showers and some even washing machines.

Bonanza, my husband and I have a 2010 Tundra, 4 x 4 with a topper and love it. We've taken it off-road many times and it performs like it should, and of course repair wise, it is excellent.

What a wonderful set up! Seems this lady had quite a bit of money to get a nice start, I love how organized and clean everything is but she has more of an income then many folks who do this it appears. I notice she didn't. discuss her income or monthly cost/ income ratio but I sense it's sig higher than many folks doing this.

I found TANK GIRL! This has to be her! I have watched these funny guys game for hours and when I heard her distinctive voice I knew it was her. kzbin.info/door/FixH17r3e7enimqCRc2zMQ She is my second favorite computer gamer besides Vertiigo and I am not a gamer. I love watching Vertiigo and tank girl get into lovers quarrels playing rust. Why watch a TV sitcom when they are much better.

Ever think of the portable five gallon water and self contained toilet with monitor system , easy carry and storable , dump tank very easy , would eliminate the nasty bucket and bag method or those shady restrooms especially at night . Cost factor around one hundred to two hundred dollars , many models to choose from . Nice shower setup , now just get a decent toilet .

I respect what your doing. I think what your doing is very smart and also is less expensive than apartment living or living in a house. Being around nature and being able to see different things I find helps greatly as a stress reliever.

I have always wanted to see inside one of those campers. I live full time in a RV park in a 30 foot 5th wheel right on a great spot next to a lake. I don't have an auto to move it. I read to move on with a class b RV but I am going to look into those campers. I have found the smaller the better with less stress. I thank you for letting me see your home.
