Same thing happened to me. I had other trucks to drive but there was no way I was going to drive them when my truck sat at the dealership waiting to be fixed. I told them I needed a truck to drive until mine was fixed and they said no way. I called a lawyer and went in and talked to him. 2 day's later I got a call from a man from that company and I told him what was going on. Not only did I get a truck to drive but they extended my warranty. I had the loaner for 3 week's and before I took it back to pick up my truck I cleaned it up just like it looked when I got it and filled up the tank. When the said dealer owner came out he was impressed on the way I returned it and the full tank. This was the same man I had previously went toe to toe with. One week later the service manager called and asked if all was good. I still buy from these guy's but they just needed a little help in seeing things clearly and sometimes a lawyer is needed to help them see the right path.

Your truck-buying story sounds like the testimony of someone who is giving courtroom testimony about how he was robbed at gunpoint while trying to buy a hotdog. That's not too far off! It is a disgrace that purchasing a truck is a traumatizing experience for which you end up paying for years. Then your transmission goes out and you are given the runaround again. This is not a Ram thing, a Ford thing, or a Chevy thing. The automobile industry is completely out of control. Hope it all works out.

The latest trend I see with manufacturers is making the customers pay a subscription for features already built into their vehicles like bruh we already paid for the feature to be in the vehicle. Why make someone pay extra just to make it function I honestly fear that they’re gonna go above and beyond to make their customers pay them bullshit money that everything from heated seats to just being able to unlock the car is going to require a subscription fee at that point I’ll just ride a horse because those will never require a subscription

There is some truth in that but also it’s a lot easier to get one new truck than it is to get to old trucks. 0% financing all day long or having that much cash and as I mentioned in the follow up video old diesels are $25,000 in this crazy market so if you’re just starting into a business that requires heavier hauling you can’t just go buy two old diesels

Spent 2k in parts repairing it and made 13 600 mi. heavy trips to east Texas. I feel these are the 2 best trucks ever built. Good luck with your truck. I turn down offers to buy mine all the time. Dodge needs to back their product better and just replace the entire transmission, take the faulty one back and then spend their own time trying to diagnose the exact issue after taking it apart. They should not put that on the dealer and in turn inconvenience the customer. They should understand that people spend their hard earned money on their trucks and that people buy these trucks to do their work and run their businesses. Best of luck to you man!

I recently sold my 93 Cummins 4x4 as I went out of the horse business. It was a beauty. Drove it for 18 years. Got way more for it than what I paid for it. My Fuso has 31 ft of tool boxes and extra fuel tanks (2) for dyed diesel for the skidsteer. My ol' Dodge would not have worked for that scenario. But the Dodge had more power and a pleasure PU. Right. I own a Tacoma and LOVE it, but it's not really a "work" truck - but I don't need a truck for that - just camping and a bit of adventuring in my retirement years, but have owned F150s in the past. I have no use for a full sized one now, but if I did, I'd probably go with Ford too, just based on their vast success with those work horses.

I own a 2nd gen Tacoma, been a great vehicle. I love it and it does what I need, however I admit it’s not the greatest for towing lots of material. I lean towards older vehicles in general, that’s why I like the 2015 Tacoma I have that is basic but reliable. The best trucks for towing in my opinion are the ones that were made 20 years ago, regardless of brand. I’d gladly own an 80s-early 2000s Ford, Chevy, or Dodge if I needed to tow more.

I bought a Chevy 2500 due to the long time transmission issues that Ram has had. But I also understand that all of these HD trucks have some type of draw back or issues. But I have noticed the GM makes it easier to just pick the needed options and still have things like leather, sunroof, and bucket seats without spending 75k-80k like Ram and Ford.

As a previous service advisor I understand there are steps that they need to take with regards to the warranty on that transmission but quite honestly 84,000 later in a vehicle with that much potential in the mere fact that it could practically ruin Dodge they need to act. That's not an $18,000 Dodge car that's a $80,000 plus dollar truck. The very heartbeat of everything that Dodge stands for when competing against people like Ford and Chevrolet. I feel for you brother because I can tell that you're a man that just wants to make an honest living and clearly require vehicle of that caliber to get the job done. I would seriously consider talking to a lawyer about your losses especially your daily losses of not having that vehicle available to you. Dodge immediately should have given you an equal value truck to get your work done while they fold their hands look around and whistle until a good idea comes into their head about what to do about your transmission. These are things that Dodge corporate wants to know about especially if you feel like the dealership is just sitting on it because they personally don't want to take the loss. This has nothing to do with their loss and everything to do with how much you've invested. I would definitely take a look at legal action to cover your backside especially when it comes to your financial losses during this time. I no longer work at the dealership that I used to work at and it's really not a bad thing because I ran into this type of stuff all the time as a service advisor. When these types of things came into my area of responsibility I was given a hard time for trying to do the very best that I could to take care of my customers. I absolutely hated that because I see a situation like yours as something that needs to be dealt with and dealt with quickly. Good luck my friend and God bless. PS who gives a rat's butt about all the comments that people put on here that are stupid. You have no responsibility to the fluid or anything else when a situation like that comes up. Yes it would have been a good idea to check those things but when you're talking about a 2022 truck the last thing that you should have to worry about a ride away in a situation like that is transmission fluid they probably doesn't need to be changed for upwards of 80 to 100,000 miles. Another point to mention. I've been in the market for a 3/4 ton truck since before you bought your 2022. Unlike you, my use will not be to move big stuff with any regularity. Just very occasionally. I've looked at new and used. The thing that irks me is that dealership are selling 2-3 year old trucks out of warranty for 3k above original MSRP. Essentially, they are getting asking price twice for the same truck. I know the whole market place is totally upside down, but that ridiculous (IMHO). Good luck to you, Brock. PS. Thanks for being so transparent Brock. I’m sure it took a lot out of you reading all of these comments, responding to them, and then on top of it all. GETTING ALL CAPS COMMENTS! Lol Anyways, thanks for telling your story. We are rooting for ya! Also, not that my input was asked for. But I think you should just keep the 2500 after it’s fixed. And chances are, you won’t have a long repair like this for a while. And in the mean time, save up and buy a back up duelly for $5k-$15k. You got the warranty for the new truck for 100k miles, and you put on roughly 20k miles a year don’t cha? So that’s 5 years of warranty. I think you should wait it out and maybe switch brands after this? Or maybe you’ll run this truck into the ground and keep it for 30 years as a back up truck to your new fords/chevys/rams you purchase to keep your daily reliable. Anyways, sorry for rambling. Best of luck brother

Okay, you paid 83k for the truck that made you happy. I’m happy for you. It was your decision and I agree with your wife’s input. Get the transmission repaired or replaced (it’s under warranty). Continue driving it. With a little luck it may last 200-300,000 miles without any more problems. If it craps out again I’d say, seriously think about replacing it, but for now, just keep on truckin.

I listened to this entire video as I was working on something else. Great explanations and thank you for doing so. About six months ago I spent $40 k for a Ram 1500, 4x4 and has a few/ some fancy things like a moonroof and such. It’s a 2020 and has 32k miles on it. I almost went for a 10 year old heavier duty… but the prices were not too far off. Going brand new to order was going to take about 6 months and with all manufacturers having quality control issues today… 2020 didn’t look all that bad to me. Once things settle down, I’ll likely go new but happy with what I have. Thanks again for the video.

My Ram diesel transmission failed under warranty and the dealership would only authorize torque converter replacement. They didn't even flush the transmission after the repair (said it wasn't authorized) just changed the converter and top-up the fluid. Friend at transmission shop says it's going to fail again and sure enough it blew again. It was and endless circle of frustration dealing with the service center. To prevent more down-time I had the automatic repaired/rebuilt at transmission shop with some aftermarket parts and it's been good ever since.

When my 2016 Ram (3500) transmission (68RFE) failed the dealer did the same exactly thing with me. Let's open the transmission and try to fix it. I called RAM and opened a case directly with them. The one thing you’re missing about the 3500, weather it’s a single wheel or a dually is that you can get the high output and that would give you the Aisin transmission. That’s a commercial tranny and would be a tougher transmission. For the weight you’re pulling you don’t necessarily need a dually but having the Aisin transmission would probably be a plus. Also, I’m betting that whatever is wrong with your brand new transmission is not a normal, every transmission problem.

I just went through the same thing with a 2009 Town&Country Limited. 4.0, 6 speed, 180K, factory life time power train warranty. Local dealer had reman transmission in stock. Flat rate time for swap is 11 hours. Zone rep first took a week to look at it and then refused replacement, insisted on dealer rebuild of transmission. But local dealer didn't have a tech certified to do rebuild. Took three weeks to determine that zone rep wouldn't allow local dealer to rebuild. Found another dealer 30 miles away with certified tech. Took car there. Got a call the next day that their tech had just left, but that they'd still figure out how to get it done. Four weeks later the local dealer got a certified tech, brought car back. Got a call the next day that their tech had just left. Where did he go? To the other dealer I just came from. Took car back. Then tech left there again. Car sat for over 6 weeks while I waited for zone rep to find a dealer qualified to do rebuild. He never did. I found a third dealer 40 miles in the other direction who did have a qualified tech, took car there. Three days later it was done. CAR WAS OUT OF SERVICE FOR 5 MONTHS! Three letters to Chairman's office went unanswered. Zone rep would never allow his phone number or email to be given to me, could never have any contact with him. I've been a Chrysler only customer since 1970. I currently have 5 minivans and 5 RAM diesels in my fleet. The way this warranty service was handled was totally unacceptable. There is no longer a Chrysler. Stellantis, which is the current label, is Peugeot. And now we know why Peugeot didn't survive in the U.S. market. When they show no regard for their customers they don't deserve to survive. I will never purchase a Peugeot vehicle and I will never again recommend one. I've sold at least 15 Chrysler vehicles to others over the years, but never again. I did suggest that the zone rep be fired, but that before they fire him they give him a salesman of the month award. For selling an F450 and a Honda Odyssey.

I feel your pain and have had similar luck on past purchases. I am 75 years old and found out that if you have a serious problem with a big ticket item you have to write a letter of discontent to at least three of the major officers of the company to get a successful response. Dealing with the local dealer is not very often successful and having the knuckleheads in the service dept try to rebuild a complex transmission is doomed to be a nightmare. I now drive a 2022 RAM 2500 4x4 Hemi purchased in December and have been very pleased with it. I gave my old daily driver to a grandson and bought this truck from the dealer inventory after a 15 minute test drive. It has been on a few short road trips towing nothing. No one pays me to use my truck as part of a business, so it's just nice transportation. All I have added is a bed rug and a tonneau cover as well as a medium-duty drop hitch. My wife has a nice SUV that gets better gas mileage, so being 'without the truck' is not an issue for us. I don't know what your business model is but a lease or rental is probably not part of it. I would advise exploring your options with RAM to see how this is going to play out once your truck is fixed. You cannot eat a warranty.

I get your frustration, been there. I have a business to that requires trucks, I have one 3/4 ton and one 1 ton. I no longer buy them, to many issues, always after the warranties run out. I now lease, and only for no longer then what the warranty is for. Also in the contract with the dealership, I have them right up, if the trucks have to go back under warranty for a repair, they have to give me a comparable truck to drive if it takes longer than one day to fix, that’s how I have them write it up. I do have the Tradesmen’s 6.4L, bare bones, with a couple things that I wanted though. I put zero down and my payments are about $650.00 a month on each truck. I put those payments towards my business, and right a lot of it off. The nice thing about it, is you get a new truck every three years. No more worries anymore, I can get jobs done. One other thing, I do not have any interest in a diesel, too much work, my 6.4L does just as well as a diesel, and I pull some pretty heavy stuff. Oh, one other thing, when I was looking for my trucks, I had to go out to the country dealership to find them, the city does not have any interest in 3/4, tons, or 1 ton trucks, they only like selling the grocery getter’s.

Fiat is known for terrible reliability. If the truck could not handle the loads you were towing, then the problems should have been in a forward gear. Your truck had a failure of the reverse gear. I suspect that it was just a quality control problem.

That trick will last 450000 miles with no issues. Bad transmission? Probably shouldn't have dogged it while breaking in.

I know this maybe sounds like overkill but this might be a good time to call a lawyer. They can find the right people to talk to without you having to be a jerk. And they can prove actual damages for the work you're losing without the truck you paid for. Dodge at least owes you a decent loaner

When I was looking for a truck back in Jan 2021 I looked at all the brands. I really liked the Ford and the GMC but the dealers were starting to see low inventory and they wanted $85k with no discounts at the time for both of those 1 ton truck with a Kings Ranch for the Ford and a Denali on the GMC. I already visited the Ram dealer multiple times and has even taken a few test drives with the truck. When I knew I wanted to order a truck that I wanted I went to the dealerships and starting talking numbers. I wanted a 3500 from Ram or GMC or a F350 from Ford. Ford and GM would not give me a penny off the trucks and didn’t even want to guarantee they wouldn’t charge me more when on truck when it showed up if the prices went up. I went and sat down with the Ram sales manager and told him what I wanted, I told them if he could get me a Ram 3500 Limited HO Mega Cab with factory air I would order the truck that day and give them a down payment. He said he would ask the owner since the owner was at the dealership and they agree to sell me the truck for $79k which is still crazy expensive. It took 15 weeks to get the truck but at this point the truck has been phenomenal. It has 16000 miles and zero issues but just like every truck and every manufacturer, my truck will have issues some day. Example. My buddy has a 2021 Denali and it was in the shop 3 times before it had 15k miles on it. Most steering column issues and it did throw a code for emissions that got resolved through and update. You just never know what is going to happen with each truck. I hope you can get the issue squared away with Ram and get your truck back soon. Hang in there.

Hey Brock, you're a very sincere guy in a tough spot. I'd suggest you live with your decisions and don't take a beating on trying to unload your truck. Take a deep breath and ride it out. Hopefully the rebuilt or replacement transmission will be fine. Only a small percentage of the RAM transmissions fail and you've had some bad luck with the last two vehicles. It happens with all brands.

Yes that’s true I have my self a ‘22 3/4 ram Cummins runs great and also have friends who owns rams and they’re satisfied so let them fix it and if continue make trouble move to different brand I’ll choose gmc over ford imo.

Selling it now is a bad idea for sure, but as far as taking a beating, that is sealed as soon as you buy new, nothing will change that. Let dealer fix it, meanwhile get a decent used truck. If you have a business, you need a backup truck anyway. I dont have a business, and I find I need 3 cars. I drive, wife drives and third vehicle is for whenever something may break down or daughter needs to borrow a car cause hers broke down. Yeah,m they know they need a 3rd car.

I'm a Toyota guy because they have done me right for 40+ years. Needed a a new truck but bypassed the 22 Tundra and bought a used 21. All auto manufacturers are failing us now with reliability ... probably part of the plan from the "Big Guy "

I have to agree with the previous comment of this being over 30 min. but I listened to the whole story. I just went thru a similar process of trying to find a diesel! In the past I've been a Ford guy and have owned 7 of them, only one was I not happy with (2011 F250 gas). In the middle of the Fords, I have had two fully loaded Laramie 1-ton duallies, of which, I had transmission issues with both before 30K each. Though they were under warranty, unless the dealer can provide me with a dually to use, the warranty means nothing because of my down time. So, I did the same thing you did by searching and talking with Ford and Chevy dealers, same answers, even had one on order for 2 months. Ended up getting lucky (really lucky) and found one 600 miles away at a Chevy dealer. Put a deposit on it by phone immediately and drove there same day and purchased it. I have to say, it's load and I'm extremely happy. good luck to anyone trying to purchase and 3/4-1-ton diesel in this market.

I think your idea about contacting Dodge directly is the way to go. Get your claim number from the dealer and call them. They owe you a comparable vehicle as a "loaner" .

Buying a vehicle is a gamble, I have a RAM 2016 3/4 ton Laramie, I pull quite often to it’s capacity, 186,563 miles no issues except for DEF fluid pump over pressure. Friend owns a 3500 ram hotshot truck 837, 889, miles when his trans went out, last truck was brand new Chevy, major repair in the first six months (rear end). Point is buy the truck you want hope for the best , they all have their own issues !

My 2017 F-350 had a failure June of 2022. No Start, had it towed to a Ford Dealer (not the selling dealer). It sat two weeks just to get it in. One week to diagnose, TSB alert for main engine wiring harness. It took 4 weeks to get parts, two more weeks to get in the schedule and two weeks to get it repaired. The cost was 12K. Not covered by Ford. I did have a bumper to bumper after market warrenty that paid 8K, the dealer covered 2k, I paid 2k and it took 8 weeks.

I didn’t have the money you had and getting a new truck was out of the question. Bought a clean 2006 ram with 185,000 miles and a $10k carli suspension for $26k. I was rather pleased with that price. Haven’t had any problems with it and probably need to save up to have the transmission replaced/rebuilt, but it’s been a good truck so far! I think older trucks are great and you can make them bullet proof with aftermarket things like rebuilt transmissions . I’m happy with my older but clean truck. I have a buddy that bought a 2022 2500 ram and it’s been great for him and no Issues but he did have to make a decision right away as someone backed out on it and he happen to be at the dealership and it was available, otherwise he was waiting a couple months.
