I drove around 220 miles a day for a long time, and getting cut off and drivers failing to yield only happened on days that ended in Y. In other words, ALL THE TIME. The difference is some drivers won't back off a few meters because, I guess, "They're in the right." What does it cost you to back off or change lanes if the lane is clear? I don't understand this insatiable need to push it like that. If you just back off a couple meters (I've done it thousands of times), everybody gets home safe, with less stress, without spending hours filling out paperwork. So what if you're right and they're an idiot? That's the normal state of the world. And blowing the horn after an incident because you're mad doesn't do a damn thing. An idiot thinks you're the idiot, horn or no horn. Also those one percenters weren't even close. They know exactly what they're doing. That part was not video worthy.

A couple of years ago I was riding across Montana on my motorcycle and I got stuck behind two semi's who were about 10MPH lower than the speed limit on a two lane narrow shoulder road. The front semi was a loaded highboy while the rear was an empty B-train flat deck. We came to the crest of a hill and I checked and there was no oncoming traffic so I shoulder checked, signaled into the other lane to pass. I was about 1/2 way past the B-train when the truck veered into my lane and began to squeeze me hard onto the 3' wide shoulder. The driver never signaled nor did he check his mirrors (When passing other vehicles I make it a practice to keep their face in view in their side mirrors.) Since I no had no idea of where the car that had been following me was I chose to drop a cog and accelerate past the trucks and it had to be quick because there was a lot of breakage on the shoulder asphalt coming up real fast. I passed the B-train doing about 100MPH and when I got to the front of the cab I could have reached out and touched the front wheel. Even when the driver of the truck knew I was there he never slowed down. He simply didn't care whether he killed me or not. When I got in front of him I gave him the finger and kept going. About 20 miles down the road I pulled in and stopped for gas. The loaded semi pulled in shortly after and the driver came over and asked if I was okay and remarked about what an assh*le the other driver had been. He told me he got the plate and unit numbers along with the companies name and said he was going to phone and raise hell with their safety department. He wanted to know if I wanted the information and I said no it would do little good since I was on my way home to Canada. He asked for my phone number in case he needed a witness to what had happened and I gave it to him. The next day the other driver called me and told me to expect a call from the B-trains owners since he had called them. The following day I got a call from the trucking company that owned the B-train called and they asked for my version of the story so I told them and then sent an email so they would have something in writing. The next day I received an email back saying that the driver had been dismissed and marked not for re-hire and would always receive a poor reference should anyone call. I also got a thank you for helping to get rid of a bad egg before he killed some one or wrecked the truck. It's nice to know that some truckers and trucking companies give a damn.

This is because yes the members of 81 and other clubs can ride hard - however like the bad truck driver you related to us in your comment - these guys do not present the norm - the second driver you dealt with is what most good truckers are - just like the bikers in this vid don't reflect the good riding habits of millions of riders in Canada and the USA.

@@ThomasKent1346 I do know that and actually merge properly myself. I'm just thinking how he's endangering the car already in front of him every time. I do also know that truckers will get points against their license whether the accident is their fault or not. I know people drive like entitled a-holes but sometimes, for the safety of all, we need to just back off. It's not like the entitled a-hole is going to. Sorry such a long response. Driving without a dash camera feels like driving without wearing seatbelts.. Most times these idiots will blame others even you when it's totally their fault. Also it's needed to stop your own ins company from giving you blame to reduce payouts and raise your rates. Anyone that has progressive or Geico should always be recording. Those 2 companies spend over 1.3 Billion alone on advertising. .Yes with a B! I have been hit a few times and witnessed other accidents and when you have proof it's game over!!! lol One lady rear ended me and wanted to pay by cash. I couldn't due to a brand new company car. When they got the bill she changed her story and blamed me for not going when the light turned green. My video showed I was the 5th car and the other cars ahead of me hadn't moved. I sent the video to my company and too the ladys ins and they settled asap! lol Also protected my ins level as well. Also recorded a hit and run and sent video to the police and the poor people hit and it really helped.

My rule has and always will be when passing a semi, continue to be in the passing lane until you can see both of the trucker's headlights in the rearview mirror before merging back into the right-hand lane.
@ralphholiman74012 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of people have never read those words on the side view mirror "vehicles are closer than they appear" and use the side view mirror to judge when to pull over. The rear view mirror gives you a truer picture of distance and when it's safe to pull back into the lane.
@ToolofSociety2 жыл бұрын
That is the way I was taught and the way merging after passing is supposed to be taught. You can find that wordage in various state laws. You are to wait until you can see the vehicle in your rear view mirror before changing back into the non passing lane.

The sad part about when people get mad at us truckers for not letting them in on the freeway because of traffic in the left lane had already cleared by the time they get behind us so they rage and flip us off thinking we do it on purpose. I can't speak for other truck drivers, some do it on purpose, but please, understand most of us are good people just trying to make a living. Your small 5 minute inconvenience of a trucker not letting you in is nothing compared to the 70 hours a week of bullshit we put up with from people in cars. Be patient, be safe, and always remember 40 tons can't stop OR MERGE in a split second, or at your behest.
