I just finished a Riding Shotgun marathon! I went back to the beginning, 7 years ago, to your most current video. What a ride!! Really enjoyed watching your videos. Your driving ethics and ability are great. You drive a lot like me. I read the road, pay attention to the weather and the surroundings, know my vehicle and my capabilities. I have lived on the Oregon coast 61 of my 74 years so am not real comfortable with snow and ice. I have driven over the Cascades during the winter but was always relieved to reach my destination (Bend,Or). I agree with you and wanting the road to myself!! I have a lead foot and the others on the road are always in my way. And you can give me an old logging road anytime over the boring freeways. I like a road with curves and scenery. I find myself traveling 70-80 MPH frequently and there have been many times I have wished I was driving a tank or D8 cat!! I am not a good passenger (I like to be in control of the wheel), but these virtual ride alongs are great. Thank you for all of your fantastic videos! Keep them coming please.

I had to respond to your comment about going down this hill without a Jake, that exactly what I did back in the early 90's. I was a beer hauler out of Milwaukee. Miller Brewery gave my company all the Miller Distributors in Colorado. None of our trucks had Jake's on them, we learned how to drive the Rockies without them. We grossed at 76-78,000 lbs. And you're correct 10 mph down those hills. Been down Rabbit Ears a few times and the entire stretch of I-70 from Denver to Grand Junction. I'm retired now and enjoy watching your videos, keep up the good work.

I never did see any rabbit ears. :-) Thanks for the trip. The worst pass for me was Stevens Pass in Washington state several decades ago. The weather and sheer drop off sides of the mountain roads made it scary. Some places had short stone walls that could never stop your car from going over. But we made it. Seemed like a miracle.

Hey Mike. Back with you again from CaVirginia. Talking about windshield fluid reminded me of a trick I learned back in the 70's. Ran out of fluid on the PA turnpike after the snow melted to slush, so I couldn't see. Pulled off and grabbed a plastic bucket full of melting snow..THEN USED IT by throwing it on the windshield till I got to the next Service Plaza near Pittsburg. TRICK...Use the enemy (snow) to get rid of the Enemy...SLUSHY, dirty streaks from the wipers. Good to see you again. GOOD LUCK WITH CLOSING. PEACE.

I used to haul cinders to the shed on Rabbit Ears, for CDOT. I could ride down at 50mph, in 11th gear, jake brake wailing, never touch the brakes. The hardest snow storm I've ever been in was up there. That pass claims two truck drivers a year. It's a tough one. Drive safe

Another great ride through the stompin grounds. Funny how spring time snow does strange things. Clear here, can't see there. What's really fun is to be driving through a blinding snow storm on wet roads with the sun shining nearly overhead. Happened again this afternoon. Lets see just how bad this storm is going to be. We really need the moisture here in Western Colorado. Thanks Mike for talking us through another one. Just watched the video of you leaving Casper WY one night in a snow storm Whew, so thats where i realized that if you look for the rumble strips it will help alot' Sometimes the delineation posts are just too far apart. Thanks again SEE YA!!

I doubt you read this. But when we do, along I-40 E or W-bound. We travel almost always, behind a semi. All the way home to Laguna Pueblo, NM exit. We just feel safer. In Wintery snowy weather. BUT at times, semi's do race by at top speed. I freaked out. You know, being behind the wheel. Splashing the debris all over the front window. It gets intense. lol. Anyhoo, safe travels. God always have your back. 👋👊🙏

Howdy Mountain Man Trucker Mike. Many years ago a friend was hauling logs in Oregon early in the morning when a sheriff deputy coming towards him crossed the road right towards the log truck. My friend went to the right to avoid the deputy. However there was a ditch which caused his truck to roll on the right side. The deputy still hit his truck and was killed. My friend had to crawl out the driver’s side. In the process of trying to climb out the truck door came down on him and broke a couple of vertebrae. In the investigation they figured the deputy fell asleep. There wasn’t much my friend could do to avoid the accident. However they still put my friend thru the ringer. That was the only accident he had in his career.

To winter conditions. Sorry hit the wrong thingie. I love driving in the snow. I actually kind of like skidding a bit. But then I practice every chance I get. I don't get to the point of reckless. I don't want to hurt anyone or my car. But for the sake of bragging, many men and women have told me I'm a great driver. I don't take risks. But I have avoided a 40 plus pile up on hwy 400 going south. I saw it before the guy in front of me (how never even applied brakes) I cut my wheels and floored it , heading for the ditch. Just before the ditch I cut my wheels again and drove on the shoulder to the off ramp. No one person even tried to avoid the pile up. The guy behind me rammed into the cars I avoided. My 2 son's were in the back seat. Awe struck. They kept saying do it again Mom, do it again. I'm headed for the nearest pay phone to report the accidents. My greatest moment, saving my kids, fearing I may have scared the stuffing out of them. I love my kids. You're right some police shouldn't be Police Officers. I so love the scenery. I haven't seen you do a safety check. But will be keeping an eye on past video's. Like I said you likely have every season of clothing in your cab. Be well, keep safe. Later alligator. Peace.
