As a diesel mechanic I can't imagine the life of a diesel mechanic back then not having to deal with all the pain in the ass electronics we have today. I feel like I would have enjoyed the trade back then more than now.

And when I retired from construction I took my CDL and dove for large firm and I lasted a couple months I have never seen so many bad apples in one place

Peterbilt was born from Fageol, a wonderful California built truck. Mr Peterman bought Fageol just before they were broke. And then Peterbilt was born, Mr Peterman wanted tough log trucks for the Pacific Northwest.

One big miss in this video was the General Motors 2 stroke design. This included the Detroit Diesel all the way up to the GM-EMD locomotive diesels. The remarkable part is that the designs are still produced. I’m a railroader, and my company is now buying new GM 2 stroke locomotives.

Don’t forget to check the locomotive lube oil for water as the liner O Rings can leak.
In the 1930s GM came out with the two stroke Detroit Diesel, as well as larger two stroke engines for marine and railroad applications.

O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸A Force To Be Reckoned With. Trucking was booming, but many states had restrictions on who they would let haul in their communities. You had to know someone,a trucking company, to give you permission to haul in the city/state. My dad started trucking in the 1930s. He hauled everything he could…coal, hay, furniture, liquids, refrigerators, phone books. The DOT made some good changes, but eventually took too many advantages of trucking. Back then, you could make some good money, even when dealing with Al Capone at times. REO was a popular truck in the 1930s so don’t forget them! 🥰😎✌️

In 1965 our neighbor had a 1962 Mack that he parked at his house when he was at home. I remember standing next to it when he started it with the air starter and scared the hell out of me. 13 years later I became an owner-operator driving a 1974 cab-over Freightliner with a 318 and a 13 speed. I knew two guys that drove Marmons. Those were some deck out trucks in their day.

The regulation introduced in the 30s and more added on moving forward from there served the Teamsters quite well for 50+ years. I have little doubt that was a major impetus for said regulation.
