O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 My brother did both, driving a truck & working in a factory, even at the same time, for many years. He mainly did that when trucking was down. He found driving a truck much more exciting & rewarding though. I know of several people who found good factory jobs…working better hours. Trucking does take it out of you & is quite demanding at times. Blessings my friend.✌️

Thanks for sharing ! Great footage and the speaker has a really nice voice. 1:40 ... It is said that British soldiers called the Macks in the WW I because of their flat hood as a bulldog, hence the nickname. 6:48 ... looks like a 2-line brake system. Does anybody know when this system was introduced in the U.S. ? Greetings from a H-D & Mack Truck fan from south Germany

I would think that the two line air brake system was original to air brakes, as this is similar to the Westinghouse system use on railroads.

I think you gave IHC little less than you should have here. IHC built 113000+ trucks in WW-II and unlike many with larger military contracts IH supplied trucks for commercial use in the US all through the war as well as military vehicles. Someone had to keep things rolling HERE and IHC was instrumental in this. The L and nearly identical R (1954) series of heavy trucks that you finally mentioned was so good for some things it was still in production into the 1980s. You also managed to miss the wide cab Westcoaster diesel model that was radically different than the K/KB series cab.

It really grinds my gears that you yanks want to take the credit for winning WW2. Great Britan, Europe, the Middle East and Australia had been fighting the war for 2 and a half years while the USA just sat and watched. Great Britan fought off invsion all by itself for the whole of that time. It wasn't until you got attacked at Pearl Harbour that the USA got involved in the fighting. While I acknowledge the efforts of all your brave young men that gave their life, it was a joint effort that won the war, not the USA by itself.

The US was the ONLY reason GB and the allies won WWII. You are vastly downplaying the significance of our efforts.

I've watched the last one of these videos. GMC and Chevrolet had a lot more to do with trucking than what you cover one these videos. So I won't watch anymore.
@jackschromeshop8296
@jackschromeshop8296 4 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that Gene! This series is intended to be a more broad overview of the events of each decade including trucks and the history surrounding the industry during that time frame - so it's rather difficult to include each and every truck that we would like to! However... If you'd like to learn more about a particular truck or manufacturer like GMC trucks for example... We do have a video series called "Truck History" and an episode entitled "History of GMC Trucks" if you are interested! History of Chevrolet Trucks will be coming in the future as well! Thanks again Gene and we hope you'll consider watching our Truck History series as well as other videos on our channel! :)

@@jackschromeshop8296 Thanks for replying to my comment. I saw your history of the GMC trucks, however, they should have a better representation than what you give them in your 30s, 40s, 50s 100 years of trucking etc. than what you give them. Both GMC and Chevrolet had a heck of a lot more to do with trucking than you give them credit for. Remember the old tv show Cannonball.
