For a few years, through a temp agency, I worked as a swamper, what you Americans call a lumper. I met a lot of truck drivers because of the job. With the exception of one or two jerks, most truckers were kind, hard working, down to earth folks. I really enjoyed trying to make their job a little easier for them. I'd meet them in the lot. Open their doors, chalk their wheels and take in their paperwork. When done, I'd sweep out the trailer, bring them their paperwork, unchalk the wheels then close their doors. They wouldn't have to leave their cab if they didn't want to. It always surprised me how many swampers did the bare minimum. After a while, I'd get most of the work because the drivers or their companies would ask for me and my partner to do the work. I remember one warehouse wanted us on a Saturday. My partner couldn't do it so rather then using someone else, they told our temp agency they'd move the job till Monday so we could do it.

All they care about is profits. They don’t care about employees and specially someone they don’t have any obligation to. They are horrible and if we don’t do anything; us the people they will have us working for minimum wage if it’s doable.

You're absolutely correct. I'll go one step further and say that the freight brokers are back to playing their games again with freight. They're only wanting to pay about $1.75-$2 a mile. I don't understand why they don't understand that fuel is still over $5 a gallon in most lanes. Whatever happened to the inquiry that was talked about, right after the pandemic, that, action was going to be taken to make brokers be more transparent about THEIR rates? Seems to have died I guess.
