Hey Mark if you ever buy more trucks I'll be first in line, your character is clear, concise, pleasant, and best buddy material. I'm 49 yrs old been driving since 1994. Big rigs have always been a magnet to me don't know why, which IMHO, any person who wants to drive should have the same. You have to love "looking at the world through a windshield", like the old song says.

Brother Trucker glad your wife is good to go. Talking about eating on the road. Truck stops leave a lot of us drivers broke. My handle is Barbeque. And besides my lil grill, I have GOT to have my crock pot. Bungy chorded nice and snug. a bag of beans and a ham hock, water, salt & pepper, plus 6 hours down the road? Supper cooked with 2 days of leftovers. I like to use my lil sandwich make to make cornbread too. I also love to drop a big roast in there. With sea salt, garlic and onions. adding zero liquids of any kind. Eating like a high roller for less than $50 a week.

I've just recently started watching several of your videos, as I have some down time with my trainers truck in the shop.. stuck in a hotel with nothing better to do. I'm surprised your videos don't have more views, you've covered a lot of great information be it general tips, or things like the fuel surcharge. I just finished up CDL schooling through Celadon and am currently in my OTR training phase. I've been trying to do as much research as possible when I can, there is certainly a lot to learn in trucking. Lifestyle, DOT/FMCSA regulations, company policies, financial management.. there's a lot to learn in a short time. I'm just glad I live in an era where information is easily accessible, it certainly lightens the burden of learning these things all first hand. Thanks for sharing all this useful knowledge.

I'm planning on getting my cdl within the next few months after getting home front situated and seeing if im going the wia/financial aid route or going through company sponsored training. My cousin is a tanker driver so im learning a bit from him whenever i can, but, he did tell me which might also be helpful to new drivers is to have baby wipes with you. I know it sounds funny but he stated like Mark stated is that showers can be full and you don't have time to wait so you use scented baby wipes to wipe yourself down which is a temp fix until you are able to get to a shower and there are "baths in a bottle" that nurses use in nursing homes or hospitals for those who cant get to the shower. Just thought to throw that in

Flatbed did suck, though Prime is a great company. To make any money you can't really log your strapin/tarpin as on duty and you will end up driving 60-65 hours a week + using off duty to work. SUCKED. Went reefer.

IMO... Showers occur on a team truck at least every other day at the worst. Daily is preferred but not realistic. By day #3 ... It's shower time for everyone in the truck! Hell or high water, that truck should be stopping for an hour so showers can be had!

I totally agree with this video. But in all essence your mind has to made up about trucking. This is why the trucking industry has a major shortage of decent drivers across the country. But overall, life is an adventure so go out there an live it. Don’t look back over your life regretting something that you felt compassionate about but never accomplished the goal. Hmmmmm.......the trucking industry has about a 130% turn over rate. The over the road positions have LOTS of unpaid hours. The local jobs are where most guys want to be and most seem to want to get the paid by the hour jobs as opposed to being paid by the ton. The showers at truck stops are about $15 each and the regular meal is there is about $25 each. It costs about $10,000 a year just to be on the road. Companies are having a hard time keeping drivers CEOs say they don't understand they say its not the pay but yes it is the pay. The pay is about $35,000 your first year minus $10,000 for the road expenses. That is my experience on trucking. Good luck.
@MarkStaite9 жыл бұрын
+Roadmasterism ... Where to start... Hmmmm... The just posted turn over rate for large carriers in 2015 was 100% no 130%... Most OTR are paid per-mile or percentage of value booked.. Showers at truck stops are free and the average meal is $15 including the tip. First year average income for company drivers is $40k+ not $35k ... Based on your information... Yes. YOU...should stay out of trucking.
@Roadmasterism9 жыл бұрын
Showers are only free after your purchase a certain amount from a truck stop. Turn over is EXTREMELY high in comparison to almost any other industry. If its not high then why are trucking companies always hiring. Even in this bad economy they are constantly hiring. The average meal is most definitely very high just about anything purchased in a truck stop is over priced. We have to agree to disagree.
