The trucking business is tough, especially for owner-operators. High costs like fuel, insurance, truck maintenance, and driver pay make it hard to stay profitable. On top of that, brokers often take a large cut of the load, leaving even less for the operator. Despite these challenges, trucking is essential to the supply chain, but smaller operators struggle because big companies can absorb these costs more easily.

I'm finding that brokers are taking 25% or maybe about 20% as market rate right now, normal rate used to be less than 10%. Brokers are also requiring higher insurance including general liability. They are doing a lot to make themselves completely useless in the market, when carriers can go directly to shippers and customers and completely circumvent them for a huge gain. Next thing brokers will be requiring us to hold a surety bonds and then they will be completely valueless in the market. Shippers and customers would prefer working directly with drivers, half the reason they use a brokers just to vet and find the drivers but apps like truck stop can do that for them. Encourage the manufacturers of the apps, to find customers. Encourage them to market direct to customers. The customers will ship things cheaper, the carriers will get paid more. In what way does that stop you as a Carrier from double brokering? It doesn't it only supposedly protects the brokers. So, if the brokers business is the one to benefit from it then it should be their business that pays for it. On top of that the fact that all of this info is being collected and just handed out to all these brokers doesn't seem like a good way to protect yourself. How does this stop those scammer from continuing to setup legal legitimate brokerages and continuing to double broker? They make at least $100k to $1M in a month before they get caught, but since they are in a different country nothing happens to them. Then they just get new credentials from a local patsy or fake credentials and sign up for a legal brokerage business once again. But most of them don't even setup legal brokerages, but use stolen info to do it all. None of these suggestions or these 3rd party systems can stop any of that.

Carriers aren't the one double brokering. It's called double brokering not double carriers. I get brokers want to be sure of a reputable carrier and, the only way to fix all of this is to simply change EVERY BROKER dot# to a B (BROKER) NUMBER and double brokering is fixed. We all use the same USDOT issued numbers even when it is a brokerage. The issue isn't the guy driving the truck, it's the thieves acting like a driver then "re-booking" with an actual driver, hence, brokers asking for proof I am the guy actually taking the load via truck photos and picture ID.

Brokers know carriers need to make money too. They just don't have as much in the rate as you think they do.

@@jincutsConvince us by disclosing actual amount shipper paid broker to move the load.

@@jincuts Brokers are seemingly staunchly against the transparency act, and are proclaiming that if a trucking company requests the transparency clause they will never work with them again. So there's something there. I've been doing this for a while now and if the transportation costs are up then the broker would have a clean and clear reason to say it will cost X amount to move this load. The shipper will see the cost as a necessity.

Ok. Look. The thing is. Mega carriers had an Ad spend budget. Most small carriers have 0 clue how to get a direct customer, let alone create and run Ad Campaigns. All those third party services are owned by private people building large databases of info to sell for ads. Track drivers down to new potential customers. Then target ad campaigns for the new customers. Small carriers get pushed out from the pool of available customers. The big issue is. Is that top large and mega carriers can work as a group/team, while the rest usually stay broken up kinda pit against each other. Cause everyone wants to be “independent”.

Is there an app for drivers to rate and/or verify brokers? If not, there should be.

I will not do business with them

In a free market it won't get better because the cheapest carrier gets the load

Hell no!! There's needs to be a focus on double brokering and brokers needs to be vetted. It's not carriers that has this problem. We're vetted thru fmsca. Loads boards needs to be vetted. Lastly, brokers needs need to be sued for not paying and making sure the loads aren't double booked.

Funny how they claim it's to battle fraud when they're asking for a key to your bank account.. I was hauling for JB Hunt for 5 years when out of nowhere last year they kicked me out of their system. I can not get a single person there to explain what the problem is either. They just keep saying to try back in a couple months..
