The older trucks are built so much better. A lot less plastic and no electronics to mess up. You can fix most of the small stuff yourself. Thanks for another ride in the old classic. Safe travels, and God bless.

Eight years ago I traded my Chevy Cruse . It was too small but I loved it because it had a 6 speed manual transmission and crank windows. That was my last standard transmission. You can't get either of those things in a new vehicle now. I now drive a giant suv that is so electronic it scares me. I agree, the oldies are the goodies.

Kurt, I can relate to your attachment to First Class. I have a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban which I have had for over 20 years, It only has 197,000 mile on it. Yes it has some quirks and some things that could be repaired. It rides like a cloud, the clearcoat on my hood is getting bad, but I just like it. I do as many of the repairs that I can. It has the double doors in back, which you cant get anymore. Im 6' tall and I hate lift gates. So I'm going to keep her "Woodshop" going as long as I can. Glad to hear your getting new seats, can't the bounce of air ride seats be adjusted so they don't float so much?

A front main on your C16 is not too bad to do. Better than the rear main. Two million on the clock is not too bad. Might think about doing a bearing roll in. That's one maintenance item you really don't want to skip. The wheels look too white after a brightening. Some polish will definitely help.

Older trucks are so much better in so many ways. At least with older trucks, you have an option to save labor in the repairs. Whereas with a newer used truck, it really could lead one to bankruptcy. More things to go wrong that only a shop can fix. Shop costs (labor) is by far more expensive than parts.

I would drive first class until it was dirt. I had an old Emeryville that had so many miles that I lost track. I gave it to my old racing partner who restored it and hauled bulls with it for several years. We both loved that old thing. If he is still alive he probably still has it. It is worth some money now to a collector. Old trucks are the best. Havagudun trucker.

They don’t build em like they used to and thank goodness they don’t. I get it with the nostalgia of the old hood trucks and all but I get the feeling most of the folks raving about them old trucks ain’t spent a whole lot of time in one. Like a R model Mack with a camel back suspension or a 359 Pete with springs instead of air ride. Louder on the inside than the outside. Shake rattle and roll. Thanks but I’ll keep my newer truck. Just my two cents.

If the frame and crossmembers are not all eaten up with salt and rust, and in good shape then everything is replaceable and serviceable as preventative maintenance or overhaul on your schedule: air lines, air valves, hydraulic hoses, wiring harnesses, A/C, heater, bushings, gauges, engine, transmission, axles, paint job, etc. etc. etc. IMHO. I'm not a trucker but drive my ol 1971 K20 and can relate to your situation only on a way way smaller scale. Drive'r till she drops.

Maintaining an old truck is admirable, and can also make sense. But buying a new truck or a newish used truck or a simply newer, lower-miles old truck can also make sense. It depends upon a lot of things, not the least of which is how much he plans to work. Sticking with an old truck is OK for someone who sits at home waiting for occasional high-paying loads on a load board. Or for someone coasting toward retirement, especially if they could retire now and keeping working is optional. Investing in a new truck makes sense for someone who wants to be on the road a lot and working, working, working for many years to come. They generate enough income that the truck payments just don't seem that big, just a cost of being ready to go, go, go and rake in money.
