West Virginia is one of the most beautiful states to drive thru you guys came late to see the beautiful leaves in the fall. Glad your beautiful rig didn't fall victim to our massive hill climbs. My buddy has a OTR truck repair business and he's one busy man because the hills.
@johnmeadows56453 жыл бұрын
The long mountain you climbed was Sandstone Mountain. When they first opened that stretch of road there were a lot of truckers killed on that mountain when they lost their brakes. You were in the Allegheny mountains when you entered WVa. The big resort hotel behind the rest area was the world famous Greenbrier Hotel. I was working there when i first got into trucking, a lot of years ago.

The real long hill that seems to take forever, is called Sandstone Mountain, when you come off of it going east bound on 64, you better be in the right gear, it's notorious for bad 18 wheeler wrecks, happy travels and Happy New Years..

In 1970 while stationed at Ft. Eustis, VA., I flew home to St. Louis, MO. to get my car and drive it back, and I-64 was still under construction. Let me tell you, those two-lane roads to get there was scenic, and it completely physically and mentally wore me out. At elevation, there was black ice, and fog so thick, I pulled over and attached a Buck knife as a hood ornament to cut the fog.

I love traveling through WV. We do have some serious mountains (for the east coast) here in NC. Mount Mitchell is the highest peak east of the Mississippi. However, the interstates don’t go through there. You’d have to be on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Closest you’ll come to a great view from the highway in NC is probably Black Mountain on I-40 just west of Asheville or some of the mountains in SW North Carolina on US 19/23. I grew up as a kid riding in a classic Kenworth like yours. As soon as I saw the interior, I knew it was a KW. Love it. Y’all travel safe.

When you was on 64 in VA before you got on the first little mountain there you past Charlottesville exit I live about 45 min from there. Virginia and West Virginia have some beautiful mountains, I remember when I was a youngster my Pop bought his first road tractor over in west Virginia back around 1979 or 1980 I road back with him it was a ol used 73 cab over Kenworth his driver turned it over there on the 64 ramp there out of Charlottesville about a year after he got it unfortunately, then he bought a 1980 cab over Mack after that he went on to buy a new 1986 super liner Mack then the last one he got was I think a 1993 çh 613 Mack, but I remember when he bought the 86 super liner he tried out a Black w 9 and I wanted him to buy that so bad but he got the Mack I wasn't happy.. 😂.. by the way I really enjoy checking out your videos.. thanks for sharing.

As a Virginia native who has taken I-64 west numerous times (mostly when going out to the mountains), and whom has taken I-64 further west than that, and through West Virginia too, I definitely recognize a lot of the places you drove through! Too bad about Pizza Hut, though I disagree with your statement on Papa John's. I'll definitely take Papa John's before Domino's. Have you ever had Little Caeser's? Their pizza's real good.

My family is from WV. We used to go home every holiday and winters were treacherous on the mountains. Dad would stop and put chains on the tires. The twisting and turning would make us kids in the back seat nauseous. Mom would dose us with draminine. It took three hours to get through the mountains. It was so beautiful with frozen waterfalls and white snow.

I-64 WV is my area. Thousands wonders I didn't pass you somewhere. You missed our snow Sunday night Monday morning on 01/02 & 02/03. I see you was on our famous Sandstone Mt. Foot of it is New River some best small mouth bass fishing on east coast. That is your climb & Climb Mt.. there you talking about. I seen a huge bunch truckers loose it & didn't end well at all on that mt. About weekly. Run in spells. Some very bad runaways & brake fires that burn trailer & even cabs up before. Some truckers who went back home the sad way. WV is the only state completely in the Appalachian Mt. Range.
