@@michaelh5055 because they’re sales men, they try to sell you the trucks which is why they get access to so many first. You will rarely ever hear them say anything bad about them and they rarely compare apples to apples when they do a Vs competition, like how fair so it to run a stock wrangler vs a squatch bronco?

I like the way you guys test off-road trucks for the Canadian market. Off-roading in Canada is often muddy with lots of rock, steep slopes, and tight spaces. Videos of Moab are always cool and Baja running looks like a blast, but that isn't the terrain Canadians put their trucks through. Well done.

When you first went through in the ranger, you slow down and basically stopped, before you backed up and took a different line and went through with momentum. When you took the Colorado through you had the benefit of knowing that and you did it right from the start. That's why you had to back up and do it again. Well, I do believe the duratrax are better tires too though. I do favor the ranger, but you can't go wrong with either one of these. Thanks for the video 👍

I drove both and the Ranger (XLT Sport) just felt all around better to me (the ZR2 does look badass though). The weight of the wheel in the Ranger has a bit of heft, which makes me feel more in control of the vehicle. My offroading experience is much different than these guys though, New Mexico High Desert. They're both great trucks. 2 months in, and I have absolutely no complaints about the Ranger - towing through the mountains is a breeze, even when taking the trailer through hilly, unpaved terrain. Great video, this earned my sub!

@Ryan Belden Mine is a 2018 built in 2017 and had 2 leaky shocks replaced under warranty. I heard they remedied that for 2019 and newer I think. The 4wd actuator and the a/c blend actuator were also replaced under warranty. Everything was done while it was getting an oil change, so I was never inconvenienced nor stranded. I can only speak for myself, but I'm not easy on vehicles and this truck has handled everything I have thrown at it. The most recent test was recovering a stuck nissan titan on the beach. It just clawed and dug and dragged it out. Great truck. Not perfect, but does everything well

well the difference in price is a big take away there as well, most duratracs are in the $250 range per tire, vs the $150 range per tire for the Grabbers. You CAN get super-high-end specialty-market MT tires in the $1000 to $2000 USD per tire range but that's your choice to spend that much on a tire! (i.e. up to $8000 for a set of four!) v

The only way I'd give up my ZR2 is for the Ranger Raptor. Maybe have a slight biased for my ZR2 but no brand loyalty what so ever. With that front locker I've gotten in and out of things that I had no business attempting by myself. And pricing on sticker is quite expensive but for my 2019 I was out the door at 36.5k with the end of the year sale. Originally wanted the TRD Pro but Toyota is way too proud to come off price and honestly preferred the ride of my ZR2

I recently got a low miles/like new 2021 Tremor. It is a great truck, and a pleasure to daily. It drives so well on the road and is very comfortable, which is where mine will be 95% of the time. There will be a few rare occasions where I will ever go anywhere resembling "off road" but not many for me. Also, I have read in several places that it is 270hp/310T on 87 octane. But it has a knock sensor, so you can run it on 93 octane, and gain about 20-25HP. I haven't verified this, but many sources report it to be so.

The ZR2 isnt the same as the Tremor though. A more compatible trim from the Colorado would be the Z71 off road. It also lacks the front diff locker, and has the same payload as the Tremor. Great comparison. I like the ranger. It ticks all the boxes for off road goodies. But, I ended up choosing the ZR2 because it offers the same amount of off-road prowlessness, but tops the ranger because of the additional front locker. Having to install an additional locker in the ranger would be costly, and I think that ford dropped the ball on not adding it. You may not always need a front locker, but its there when you do need the additional traction.

I truly appreciate your actually testing these trucks as they designed/marketed to be used -- off road. The ZR2 might have a better ride and front locker for serious crawling, but the ranger has a better powertrain and looks. They're actually pretty darn close, and if tires were a determining factor for any part of the testing, tires people often change out to a different brand when the OEs have worn out, so why not test them both with the same to see what difference it makes on each? All aside, I do not like the looks of the ZR2, I think the update is a bit of a step backwards -- the forthcoming Colorado changes that! That said, this current generation Ranger is a better looking truck, which I can't say about the forthcoming generation.

Just fyi No matter which truck you use the 1st one in the mud will always have the most trouble. Because it has to clear away the loose mud. To be completely fair You would need to Make a clear run then repeat both truck After The path has been clears 1st. Ideally with another truck So you would only have to Make one run. But when you test one on a fresh hole versus 1 that's been drove through it's a very Different Situation. Great video though really loved all the info and love that you guys actually got in real mud Situation not some place where Grammy would go lol

As far as the Ranger ride goes, my experience is that it softens quite a bit after the break-in (10,000 miles). Also, the valving of Fox shocks seem to stiffen when encountering fast & hard bumps.

The Ranger Tremor (FX4 Max in other markets like Australia) is a compromise vehicle for both off road and towing as well as general on-road usage while still maintaining decent cargo carrying ability, it is still not a direct competitor to the ZR2 which does not have the same overall all around ability, the Ranger Raptor on the other hand (which is not in the North American market) is the direct competitor to the ZR2 however it would have to be the turbo diesel version as the Ranger Raptor only ha the 2.0L Sequential turbo in line 4 cyl with 10 -speed auto.

The next generation Ranger (due in 2022 for Australia and other non North American markets) from all reports will have the following: XL/XLS / XLT - 2.0L in-line 4cyl variable geometry turbo diesel with 10- speed auto (as the standard engine (replacing both he current 2.2L and optional 3.2L 5cyl) standard 2WD/4x4 High/Low + Rear diff lock FX4 Max (re: Tremor in North American market) - 2.0L sequential turbo (bi-turbo arrangement) with 10-speed auto with full time AWD / 4x4 High and 4x4 Low + rear diff lock and Terrain Management Mode - 2.3L in-line 4cyl turbo petrol with Plug In Hybrid 14kWh battery electric motor (optional) with 10-speed auto with full time AWD / 4x4 High, 4x4 Low + rear diff lock and Terrain Management Wildtrak (top line specification) - 2.3L in-line 4cyl turbo petrol with Plug In Hybrid 14kWh battery electric motor with 10-speed auto with full time AWD / 4x4 High, 4x4 Low + rear diff lock and Terrain Management - 3.0L V6 turbo diesel with 10-speed with full time AWD / 4x4 High, 4x4 Low + rear diff lock and Terrain Management Ranger Raptor - 3.0L V6 turbo diesel with 10-speed with full time AWD / 4x4 High, 4x4 Low + front & rear diff lock and Terrain Management - 3.0L V6 Twin Turbo petrol with 14kWh battery electric motor with 10-speed auto with full time AWD / 4x4 High, 4x4 Low + front & rear diff lock and Terrain Management The next generation Ranger is also going to be the VW Amarok (for Australia and orher non North American markets) and as such VW have requested that full time AWD be included, it's not know if the North American market will have the VW Amarok as it's not known if Ford USA is going to make that vehicle in house for VW.

Wish they could put the Duratrac’s on Ranger as well. Regardless having a front locker is big sell plus the ability to add a turbo afterwards would make it far superior versus an engine that is already close to its limits. Plus a transmission with too many gears do not work well off road.

Setting it up as an Overland I live in the Northwest territories of Canada in the middle of nowhere... The big question for me is is the Chevy worth 15 or $20,000 more then the Ranger? I can always add a front locker or upgrade this suspension which there is no need..... I think the clear winner was the Ranger for me.....

Both great trucks. Ford got my money though. I prefer having the towing ability and think they look a little better. My biggest complaint about them is the back seat doesn't fold down flat like the chevy. I loved having a 60/40 flat folding back seat for hauling tools and stuff you don't want to keep in the bed.

I drove the Tacoma, Colorado, & Ranger. Eliminated the Tacoma early due to horrid seats & an anemic powertrain. The Ranger Tremor & ZR2 are so close IMO … really like the smoothness of the Ranger, but the ZR2’s capability ultimately swayed me into grabbing a ‘21, which I’ve since leveled and added 33s. Now, if Ford brings the Ranger Raptor to North America … that will have my full attention. 👍🏻🇨🇦

Better tires for the Ranger would make them more equal, but you can't beat having a front locker on the Chevy. Ford might step up their game more with the Ranger now that the Bronco is based on it's platform maybe some aftermarket company can offer an upgrade to the Ranger for front lockers.

At the 4min mark, I think you need to keep those trees on that curve. Yes, you would like to carry more speed in but what you have is far more realistic. Im going out to inspect a tower this morning and I have a sharper curve than that to navigate before going up towards the base. Knowing (guessing really) what any truck will do in that moment is better than seeing it in scripted driving like all the manufacturers put out.
