True; if you go listening to his sermons during the early years (pre Jonestown) vs. his 'sermons'/rants in Guyana it's really eerie. You can see why so many people followed him, and why people were probably so afraid to leave, given how outright scary he was during the final months in Jonestown. Megalomania (and ~*amphetamines*~) are a helluva drug.

He sounds like he pretty much toyed with those peoples mind, and capitalized on what most were fighting for/demanding and or complaining about and gave it to them via hype. He pretty much sold them a pipe dream that led to his dreams and fantasies. If you have ever had the opportunity to experience someone that was genuine, (even on a small scale.......cause sometimes good experiences don't have to last for years) you will come to know how easy it is to be progressive as well as to be productive and achieve whatever that person truly desires to achieve on another behalf. #trust

@anopinion3469
@anopinion3469 3 жыл бұрын
that's what socialism is.. marxism to socialism to communism, the government pays for everything, the people work long hours, and they give the people bare minimum to barely survive, including bad healthcare, food, clothing, and where to live. he was a complete socialist, even his COMPOUND/COMMUNE was completely in line with how socialist/communist countries have always been run, and how they are today. Look at Cuba for example, The gas stations are only open some days, you have wait in line for over an hour, many people pushing their cars, people stand outside "food stores" and never knowing when it will open, the people rush inside, and have pre-packaged, nasty, burgers, in plastic bags, the freshest meat they can find, and only one kind of noodle, same brand, check out venezuela, their shelves are BARE, everything is the same, because none of these countries have individuals who are allowed to own any business. Their medical care in cuba is so old, it looks like it's from the 1940s. North Korean people are actual slaves, they get sent to Africa to build and erect statues for royalty there, or sent to Siberia to cut trees, having to build their own cabins and hunt for food, for timber, and the money for their slave labor goes to their dictator.. they banned the sale of firewood in North Korea so they can stay warm, and electricity is cut off at sundown... people are running from South America, even tho Venezuela was the 3rd richest country only a few years ago, until they switched to socialism. 32 people have liked your comment at the time of mine, and it's scary to me, and sad, that you can research how propaganda was put into the universities of cuba 60 years ago, preached to the young people how great socialism is, and now, the people are waving the American flag, because despite the racism in this country, the flag of USA is the symbol of freedom to people around the world... and they come here, and become successful by working hard, and making good decisions, knowing that racism, slavery, child slavery, is still very prevalent every where in the world, and worse, no matter how hard they work, they won't have fresh foods, they will never own a restaurant, corner store, or get medical care for their mother or child.

He had an addiction to pain pills that increased his already paranoid persona. He was also sleep deprived because he would go on his rants aka sermons all through the night. And would force his followers to stay up with him. That's why he wore shades most of the time. He was just a bomb ready to go off. Power hungry and paranoid NEVER mixes well.
@A_Common_Tit
@A_Common_Tit 3 жыл бұрын
He was addicted to benzos (for sleep), and mixed with amphetamines to stay awake. Never a good combo. He got the meds from a crooked doc who lived in Jonestown who just kept supplying him. Personally, I think the amphetamines may have added to the already bad paranoia that Jim Jones had, more than the sleeping meds did. Because a common side effect of amphetamine misuse is racing thoughts, irritability, etc.

You did such a great job on this story! I was a young girl when I ran in to one of my friends who had a paper route. He was reading the paper with a horrified look on his face. I asked him what was wrong and he showed me the front page with the picture of the bodies strewn all over Jonestown. I will never forget that day.

I really struggle sometimes. I have multiple sclerosis as well as anxiety and depression. I need you to know that your content is so thorough and fascinating it takes my worries away at least while you’re on and you really make me laugh. You represent those that are hurt and gone with such respect, getting their stories out. You’re really here for the ones who are here too, teaching us to be sassy and adorable. And taking our sadness away and replacing it with tears of laughter. There’s a lot of nasty jealous people out there. Don’t let yourself see their poison.

It doesn’t matter how many times i hear this story, I’m always left sick to my stomach with tears rolling down my face. Those poor children who didn’t ask to be brought to this “work camp,” we’re the first to be poisoned? How disgusting is that!!? As heavy as this story is, your bloopers had me giggling and made the sadness disappear. I’m glad you’re finally settling in to your new home & that you & Blu are loving your excursions around town. PS: The first thing I thought when you spoke of caressing that young man’s hand was imagine if Chris Hansen from “To Catch a Predator” was sitting at the next table and saw you mistakenly loving on that young man.
