1: it's always nice to see these difficulty mods bring up attacks you normally very rarely see purely because the bosses last longer, such as Meta/morpho Knights' tornadoes, Hyness desperation, etc. It's always been very interesting to me that a lot of bosses often tend to have an extra attack or interaction that many people wouldn't see normally due to the friendship system letting them defeat the boss beforehand (setting wispy woods on fire is a good example; very few people would see it without knowing because Wispy dies very fast). 2: Speaking of dying too fast; yeah that's an issue that comes with the partner mechanic too (aside from it being a Kirby game), where you have some of these bosses in the story like Wispy woods, Kracko and Dedede's first phase where they don't get to shine or do much until the post game powered up versions, and even then they trouble living for longer than 15 seconds against the partner mechanic and were much more likely made with just Kirby in mind; And then there's bosses like the three mage sisters, Void and Morpho Knight EX who are very clearly better/more thoughtfully designed with the partner mechanic since they are post-game bosses (and literally added in updates after the game came out). Which makes me sad that they didn't make all that many bosses with this mechanic in mind. 3: it's so weird to see Termina *run*.

As someone who has beaten Soul Melter EX solo with every ally (Except blade knight because the sword ability is a pain) I loved seeing all the little tweaks made to the bosses here. I also didn't think it would be possible to mod in the ability to have Void home in on you with his bouncing attacks, or put in the freaking Marx battle from the credits! Also yeesh that second mini-boss rush is always rough, especially twin Bugsy.

It's interesting to see some of the bosses using attacks you would never see at their normal pace, Hyness just resorts to dark projectile spam after the heart shield move apparently since I've never dragged the fight beyond that point. Also that little puff up move from Parallel DeDeDe, I've never seen that before either, he used it in past games but I never saw it in this game, looks kind of janky though. I also did not know Void loops back to the bullet hell attack after the 2nd pattern of Dark Mind, Deadly Sun and Dark Matter, I thought he would repeat the final three phases until defeated. Btw True Void Termina at 26:34 and 27:06 looks funny moving when he's sped up, he looks like he's actually running rather than just stomping faster toward you.

Soul Melter EX goes back to full health and gives the player two tomatoes, two Energy Drinks, and two Maxim Tomatoes... or it did in the base game. Here, the two Maxim Tomatoes have been replaced with Energy Drinks, despite the increase in boss difficulty. ...I just realized I completely cut out all the footage of the rest area. For the record, I used the first tomato before Parallel Meta Knight, the second before Parallel Dedede, one Energy Drink before Corrupt Hyness, two Energy Drinks before Morpho Knight EX, and the last Energy Drink, along with the Cherry given in the chest, before Void. 34:46 onward is footage from failed attempts! This took me 10.5 hours. Like I literally have 10.5 hours of SMEX footage (That I'm promptly deleting with the completion of this video since it takes up like 70GB of storage) on my computer. Dear God.

Hot take: I think Star Allies has some of the best designed bosses in the series. Notably the Parallel bosses, give them just a bit more health, and they’d be good. I actually tried limiting myself against these bosses just to make it a bit more interesting (no ability, no dodging, no guarding, minimal hovering) and it was really fun. Don’t remember being gamer enough to do it on Soul Melter EX though, so no comments on Void. Slightly unrelated, but I tried a similar thing for Forgotten Land’s Ultimate Cup Z, no dodging, no guarding, minimal hovering, and *base Sword*. Now that’s a fun challenge. (Last I tried I didn’t get past Forgo Leon’s phase 2)

The mod was meant to be a harder version of the vanilla game rather than like, something new entirely, which is why I didn't change any music and only really made existing attacks faster for the most part. Marx replacing Goldon & Silvox was the exception I made since Marx not being in SMEX always felt like a big missed opportunity to me.

The main thing is the sped up bosses, but it's the smaller things like Kracko's lightning attack now requiring you to dodge roll or AB Void's Bounce attack tracking the player that make it neat. Oh and Marx is there. He doesn't seem sped up, but that's obviously because he's simply too powerful. I mean we can infer that he banished the golden tanuki and silver kitsune back to their island, so he must be at least decent right?

I'm too incredibly used to Soul Melter EX to be a good judge of its relative difficulty anymore, I'd probably struggle more doing vanilla Planet Robobot The True Arena than I would with this hard mode mod from lack of familiarity but I'm sure many people struggle with even vanilla SMEX more

It's doable. I'm not intimidated. (Read: someone get me a damned capture card and the ability to mod...) ...ok, that's a lie, Morpho Knight EX looks a bit too cheap for my tastes. Also Parallel Big Kracko summoning the lightning storm a lot faster is crazy. Good bit though on those Void lasers looking nearly impossible to get to a safespot and then you can just duck lol

You can duck the lasers in the base-game too! I thought about removing that by editing the laser positions, but I decided to keep it this way. There are characters who are too tall to duck them, like Susie. For those, you'll have to quickly rush to the corner where the laser doesn't touch.
