Ah... Well I don't know if this is any comfort, but Swedenborg says we are not to judge our own marriages, even. Life on this earth is so overlain with worldly concerns and distractions that it's hard to see clearly on the level of the spirit. But again, we can work with the Lord to BE the "right" kind of partner. Commit to working on making THIS marriage healthy and good. And then things will all work out in the spiritual world. Ya know?

Wondering if you've read about other experiences in heaven? Union of minds is what I've heard of. The person said you can merge with someone you want to know better and it's like 1000 times better than our relationships here. You find out all the person's experiences and feelings and it's intense. They didn't say how long it lasts. Didn't sound like marriage. Maybe you could call it a wedding. I think after listening more you are on the right track with your discussion.

In life, we are restricted by so many rules imposed by society instead of god. Religion, class status, age, parental rules, distance, arranged marriages where parents decide and not the person, etc. How is one expected to find their true soulmate in this world when there are so many rules? Ones true soulmate could have been born into a different religion, different class status, different age, different side of the planet or in a country that is an adversary of the one you were born in (think Romeo and Juliet), forced into a marriage because of the culture they were born into, and so on? The only chance a person can find their true soulmate is under gods watch and not society.

Sorry that this isn't related to the video topic, but it's something I hope you guys can maybe touch upon. I've been wondering this for a long time, and these questions are brought up even more watching some of the videos on this channel. What are creative pursuits like in heaven? Since a lot of creative media is made by technology nowadays (digital art tools, modeling and animating are all examples) would all creative pursuits in heaven be made more traditionally and fundamentally separated from the freedom technology gives us in, say, 3D animating for visual medium (and would therefore be more traditional and physical medium oriented) or is it like this amorphous power where we freely create whatever is good in our imaginations (without the physical creation process)? I don't know if Swedenborg ever touched on this stuff, but more Christian artisan teachers are starting to bridge the gap in showing how God is our Creator and therefore made us creative, and how we can work together with heaven in creativity (The Christian Artist Podcast), but it leaves many questions to be answered (in regards to creativity and creative mediums in heaven for example) and it would be interesting if there are answers to these questions in Swedenborg's insights on the workings of heaven - Thanks

Oh -- and one more thought I'll add -- Swedenborg says that EVERYTHING that happens on earth has some origin in the spiritual world. So what does that say about all the technology here? Swedenborg (in the mid-1700s) described seeing some kind of moving-picture thing on the wall inside a home in heaven, used for education -- was that where TV came from, hundreds of years later??

The story of the wife who was married to seven successive brothers: in the Jewish tradition, not all marriages were marriages of love . They were marriages of convenience or mutual financial benefit. But the wife became the property of the husband. Therefore, the question is one of ownership, not love. The question the saduces were asking was which brother owns her.

Oh, barba. Swedenborg learned that the Lord takes great care in the arena of heavenly partners. He also learned that we do meet up with whoever we might have been married to, but in our genuine spiritual selves, it is clear to both parties whether it is a real match or not, and if not, they move on to find their real partner. As the Psalmist said, "Fret not, it only causes harm." As we live out the rest of our lives here, we can keep working on being the best kind of married partner we can be. Blessings to you.

The point was that Adam wasn’t following the will of God. He was following his own rebellious desires. Think about it. Eve wasn’t in the pickings of an helpmate. God made an offering to Adam and Adam in that scenario could’ve asked God who will suit him, instead of casting them off and going with the desires of his own heart.

I wonder if this idea of "no marriage in heaven" is a case of something being lost in translation. The Bible was translated and rewritten many times between Jesus and us. And in some cultures, you can have different words for "marriage" or "union of a man and a woman" that carry slightly different meanings. I'm no expert on Hebrew or the other Aremaic languages spoken in the region at the time, so I don't know if they have several words for marriage, but when in comes to the details of the scriptures, this question of translation is basically always there. Especially since Greek, Latin, and several other translations are between us and the original words of Jesus. Oh well. At least there is no doubt on the core of the message on love and kindness. ...And we probably have a lot of work we can do on this part already.

I guess we could constantly second-guess how the language of scripture has come down to us, and perhaps we'll never know the answers to all our questions about the literal sense. I don’t know that Swedenborg said anything about that. However, my understanding is that nature is symbolic of heaven and what I see is that we are created in pairs that procreate. Period.

He doesn't really address the topic, Mark (which is why they didn't mention it in the video) but his whole thing about marriage is based on the male/female model, as being representative of the union of Love and Wisdom in God. That said, seems to me that God will help us all work things out on the other side, in one way or another. Nobody will feel cheated or trapped or betrayed or in the wrong place on the other side. We'll have the experience of living in a body, but Swedenborg says that a lot of earth/material/body-based stuff just falls away when we die, so what will that mean? Swedenborg also learned that our spiritual freedom is God's highest priority, so whatever the situation is, we will have made the choice ourselves. God first creates whole souls which split into two. About 92% split into male/female; 4% male/male, 4% female/female. All romantic/sexual attraction is based on our longing to be reunited with our one and only soulmate.

That is accurate. Nobody is forced in heaven.
