I am 69 and started playing a 35 year old acoustic guitar. I have always loved guitar music and now the guitar already feels like a good friend.😁🇳🇱 thank you!

Hi Pavel...I first listened to Mark Knopfler in 2004 (Sailing to Philadelphia). And yes it went deep inside my heart. Has been listening to Mark all those years after that. I bought my first guitar in 2008 as I felt intense desire to play like Mark. And yes even I cry literally listening to some his songs especially Long Highway. It has got some heart wrenching notes.... My favourites are Long Highway, Trawlermans Song, Sailing to philadelphia, Lights of Taornima. Please teach us how to play Long Highway !!

Pavel, when you talk about music it feels like you're ripping out my thoughts and verbalising them. Music truly is an amazing experience. How do you listen to music? You have a dedicated room with a system that you enjoy or how do you do it?
@PavelFomenkov3 жыл бұрын
Oh no, I'm too lazy for all that! I tried many times in my life to be a "proper" listener, I tried some systems, tried to play vinyl, but I realized that's not the way I want to experience songs. I gave up on practically any audiophile experience whatsoever and now listen to music exclusively through my iPhone's speakers, or iMac speakers, or laptop speakers. No fancy at all! But Apple's speakers have gotten very good nowadays, especially on bigger gadgets, so I don't mind. So I embrace technology and listen to music everywhere, however, I was raised with cassettes and CDs in the late 90s and early 2000s, and still never dismiss the importance of "albums" as an experience. It's great that we have common thoughts on Mark's music, I love how music can truly transcend geography!

Hi Pavel, I have a couple of questions about your strumming in this video if you don't mind answering? In your performance, it looks like you are muting the 1st string with your ring finger on all the chords, except on every other beat, when it looks like you lift it off on the downktroke. Am I correct that this is to mute the 1st string? Also I've tried to slow your video down to 1/4 speed and it looks like on the last two upstrokes for each chord, your upstroke starts from the 2nd or 3rd string, is that correct? In slow motion, it almost looks like you are focusing on those strings. I hope I explained correctly, I'm just trying to get my strumming to sound right for this song and I'm not quite happy with it yet.
