Well, what about if you worked for the same employer for many years? One friday paycheck missed and you are leaving? What makes you think that it is not a temporary problem?

@@krasavchik8714 I don't see anything wrong with what he said. He's essentially working for free after that missed payday, and many of us have a problem with that. Or, you could look at it as the driver loaning the company that money. Would you loan your employer money or work for free? I don't think so. Especially when there are obvious signs of financial trouble on their part.

This is so true. If your driving for someone and you have to wait for them to get paid by the broker, that is a problem. A company should be able to cover the driver costs well before they accept a load from the broker. If not, might as well be independent.

I was hauling fuel in San Diego a few years back when a driver from another fuel company told me their truck washes stopped coming. I told him it's a sign the company is going under and he needs to get out. He didn't listen and stayed hopeful because the company had just offered him a management position to start 2 weeks later. 10 days after that conversation, the company went bust and every other fuel company, including mine, scrambled to snatch their market share across San Diego County. It's like a sin to allow gas stations to run dry. Years later I ran into the guy at a gas station near my parent's house, working for a different fuel company. Still a bit salty about not getting into management but glad he was still on his feet. He said a few others weren't so lucky and now work OTR.

@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News that's what Evans Transport offered that driver. He was gonna be making $135k+ a year in 2017, which in San Diego at the time was the difference between renting in perpetuity and buying a home. By comparison I was making just shy of $70k and renting a 1 bedroom apartment, so it was a considerable jump in pay. I totally understand why he'd hesitate to leave and hold out hope; it was a chance to own a home in the American equivalent of Vancouver BC's housing market. But when Evans faltered, his hopes did too. Last time I saw the guy he mentioned leaving California altogether and moving to Texas. Understandable considering the huge gulf in housing prices

The funny thing is I don’t understand how these companies even came about and they even have a fleet of Atleast 120 trucks. They can’t even pay their freaking drivers. So I know for a fact they did a lot of scam shit to even start the company in the first place and be able to grow. And there’s definitely other companies like this for sure….and these are the mfs who haul for cheap and ruin it for all of us.

They started small prior to covid. When covid rates hit, truckers started earning big bucks off every load. So, they took their profits and reinvested in new units to put more drivers out on the roads. Growing this aggressively, this quickly, is what doomed them because they didn't prepare for the moment when they wouldn't have the safety net of high rates. So now that freight is at the lowest it's been in years, they can't weather out the downtick

I've worked for two trucking companies as an owner operator that started to not pay employees on time. I left both of them shortly after the nonsense started. Neither of those companies are around today. If one decides to stick around at a company with financial problems they will get hurt. The industry is suffering yes. But if we educate others on how we can recover together, building stronger, won't the profitable side of the market return? Have we forgotten that trucking used to be one of THE most profitable industries? We can make it great again. It's a cornerstone to society. So many industries would come apart at the seams if trucking ceased to exist. So, it is without a doubt, a profitable industry. The issue is that people are lowballing and trying to pull all the profit to themselves.

Mr. R, That driver that is owed $40,000 ? Wait until the bankruptcy (Do they have that in Canada?) Then issue ( In the USA) a 1099 to the owner of that trucking company. @NorthAmerican-Trucking-News I used to sit in a tow truck for 12 hours graveyard shift. If it was dead the boss didn't like us driving around. I used to put cigarette pack foil on the GPS antenna and go visit a chick that worked at Hortons. That guy wouldn't pay me any more per shift it I worked past 12 hours so I didn't feel bad for being deceptive. He also deducted pay for damage which is illegal. (I missed and dented someone's fender on a call as i was beating on the wheel with a deadbolt hammer to try and get it off) I used to make up for when he didn't pay me for working late with a couple washer jugs of diesel out of the tank the next day cause I had a diesel pickup. Current employer I have never been deceptive or taken so much as a pen because they have treated me with respect and never exploited me. If they did, I would.

If an employer fails to pay me, there is a very short period of time that I allow them to fix the problem-not a matter of weeks, but a matter of days. Don’t fall for this trap.

This is a low margin industry and will remain that way because new immigrants can easily enter and keep working on low wages/Low return by basically surviving on noodles. The rates are getting lower because the new entrants are supplying cheap labor which is where the shippers are sending their jobs. Smell this BS now and get out of this industry.

@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News we having same problemsjust south of ya'll. Look at who is control of both countries look at when the troubles truely started. Here under obama fuel went sky high started to recover under trump and has doubled in price under biden . Then theres cali ive rufused loads in and out of cali for 15 years now. If people cant see what liberals are doing to both of our once great nations and continue to vote like 5 year olds throwing a tantrum then they deserve whats happening to them.
