Marvin is truly THE master mind. Big number of instructors say the right things but still leave it vague. Marvin's way unfolding what he is teaching is an art form by itself. Love the fact that anything what he teaches is connected with everything. All starting from true boxing stance and every new lesson is still related with that. You are the man Marvin!

Basically, control distance with your jab while your opponent comes at you.
@paynevess88223 жыл бұрын
Ehh, seem like Coach Marvin is talking more about arm and shoulder alignment rather than just distance. Sure, having bad alignment can screw with your total reach, but this seems like more of having the advantage in positioning and target acquirement, rather than just flat reach. Even if you are in range to hit, it won't mean much if you accidently hit 2 inches to the dudes left or right because your feet and shoulders couldn't keep up with your punch, or vice versa.
@pedrobrocato19824 жыл бұрын
This is a great way to explain the jab. For me I noticed that my defense changed immediately. I can’t just do some of the dynamic movements I’m use to getting away with, I’m forced to reset my self. I realize this is sort of new movement for me so this is to be expected but this explanation in practice feels balanced and the rotational component to the jab, cross feels a bit more fluid. In all honesty I have a great coach but he encourages me to learn as much as possible from solid sources. Thank you 🙏 for sharing, greatly appreciated.

This is awesome, I just wish he had added the *reasons* as to why this is the case. When your "jab sights" are lined up, your base is in alignment, which allows you to throw your jab effectively. But... when your base is perpendicular rather than lined up your jab is ineffective because you don't have a third leg to push off of. Now what I wish what he had said... is that when your base is at a perpendicular position your hooks are more effective than your jab i.e. your "hook sights" are still in alignment. And when his front leg is in front of your back leg (1:12 for example), your "rear straight sights" are still in alignment. "Sight alignment" of a specific punch is directly related to position of your opponent in relation to your base alignment and punch direction. Some punches (like the jab) have smaller alignment windows than others (the hook) due to the path they travel in.
