I always introduced any guy I wanted to date to my parents. When I was 23, I brought my new guy to my parents home. My dad took me aside &, with a look towards the room where my mom & bf were talking, said "no". Just..."no" but I knew exactly what he meant. When he dropped me off, I told him I didn't want to see him again & why. He thought I was being stupid & controlled by my dad. 2 days later, he showed up with one of my best friends on his arm. They moved to another state 2 weeks later. A month after they moved, she was fighting for her life in an ICU after he almost beat her to death. I always trusted my dad's instincts.

@@nikkis.3680 It's 100% true! I told my Dad everything. When I still lived at home, I would tell him if I was going to a party. 98% of the time, he'd say OK. If he said 'no" I didn't go. (I should clarify something here. My Dad was a cop.) If I didn't show up & I was expected, party's over! Want to hear another kind of cool story?

@@nodak0164 Oh I believe you and Yes Id love to hear another cool story!
@nodak01645 жыл бұрын
@@nikkis.3680 This'll be in 2 parts- Again, this is all totally true! Part #1 When I was a high school senior, one day all these kids I didn't really know started to come up to me at my locker, in the halls & even in class to tell me how I had the coolest dad they had ever met! But, no one would tell me why because (they all said) "we've been told to keep it to ourselves & you'll have to ask him yourself". Well, damn! Now I was REALLY curious! Turns out that there had been a couple of calls about a party being held by a group of teens. Dad was the 2nd highest rank in the dept. so normally he wouldn't go on a call like that but it was on his way home. Sure enough, big party, a bunch of teens who weren't drunk per se but they were on the way. Dad spotted a kid who lived next door to us who looked at my father as the Dad he wished he had been blessed with instead of the sloppy, vicious, violent drunk, drugged addicted, never worked a regular job A. hole he got. I'll call him Mark. Dad points at him & at the door & says loudly "YOU! RIGHT NOW!" On the step outside, Dad says, "Ok- how much alcohol do you guys have, how much do you have, where is it & who bought it? And don't even THINK about lying to me because I'll know it if you try!" Mark said "we have a pony keg(about 1/4 the size of a keg), it's in that locked closet you couldn't open & I don't know who bought it, I wouldn't lie to you!" All the kids at the party were in h.s. & this was finals week. (Also, keep in mind that the late 70's were VERY different compared to now) Dad thought for a moment & handed him a business card & said, "These are the rules. Rule #1- If I can hear the music outside with the door closed, someone going into detention. I'll pick you. Music goes down. Got it?Rule #2- I don't want to see, hear, smell or even be told that someone got falling down puking drunk. You're in charge & you'll be blamed if that happens. Understand me? YOU'LL be in trouble. With me! Rule #3 No one goes outside until they want/need to go home. No yelling, screaming, fighting, howling at the moon, whatever. Keep the noise level down. If I hear even 1 more complaint about this party, someone is going to detention. I pick....YOU! Rule #3 NO ONE drives home from this party. NO ONE! When someone wants or needs to go home, you're going to call me & I'll make sure they get home & so will their car. Don't let anyone drive. You're going to go in their and take everyone's keys. No ifs, and's or buts. No keys, they'll leave with me right now & I'll charge them with underage drinking, disturbing the peace & a few more things. Got it? Repeat what I just told you".
@nodak01645 жыл бұрын
@@nikkis.3680 Part #2- Then they went in & collected the keys, Dad had Mark tell all of them the new "Rules" & Dad & the patrol guys left. They all came to our house. They sat around, drank coffee & swapped stories. (The patrolmen were off duty too.) About 2 hours later Mark calls & says "Ahhh…. Sir? A couple of kids have to get home. What should we do now?" Dad & the patrolmen go back to the party. The kid finds his keys in the stash of keys & the patrolmen would drive the kid's car while the kid rode with Dad & he gives them the "don't waste your life" speech. Not blaming them though. We were all young once. But, being young doesn't mean you have to be young & stupid. Dad & the patrolman shuttled kids for several hours. Everyone got home safe. No fatalities, no innocent people going about their lives got hurt or killed & they had all slowed down how much they drank so all they had was a buzz & a slight headache but no one had the DT's or a bad hangover the next day. I guess you can understand why he was my hero & my idle! Like I said, it was a VERY different time vs. today. I always did my level best for him. I knew I was going to follow in his footsteps from age 3 & was so close to the brass ring! Then a drunk decided that although both his 8 1/2 months pregnant wife & her bff was stone cold sober & his BAC was over 0.4, HE had to drive his truck because HE WAS THE MAN! And NO REAL man would allow a mere woman drive him! He almost killed me & I lost my chance at following in Dad's (rather large) footprints. I was extremely lucky to get the parents I got. Sorry this got so long!

In Washington state, it seemed like I skipped a grade, I was the second youngest in my graduating class besides a girl who skipped a grade, lol. Oddly my mom skipped a grade too. So we both graduated at age 17 and i was class of 1998 she was class of 1978, pretty interesting, I thought. If I had started kindergarten in Washington I'd have had to wait until the next year and would've been class of 99. Crazy. Glad I wasn't coz I already got enough Columbine related grief from people without even being in school anymore, just judged on my appearance and I man...if you stood out at all, or dressed "goth" you were Satanic and on your way to hell as it was.. damn I'm glad that people are becoming more accepting of differences.

That stood out to me too. I think there's also a class difference in terms of what we'd consider normative reactions to similar situations. I think in low income areas, there are "more important" things (like keeping the lights on, food etc.) than worrying about whether or not your daughter's bf is The Killer. Personally, I would have banned that dude 2 years ago. But I can understand how that wouldn't be a priority if you're living paycheck-to-paycheck.

How horrific is it for her to now have to face him every year to ensure he stays in prison. I can’t even imagine the fear she will feel when he gets out. This really should’ve been a death penalty case! Attempted murder that was clearly premeditated and Heynis as it was deserves the death penalty. It's really irritating how the result is more important than the intent in the justice system. He intended to brutally kill her, he should not get a lighter sentence because she survived. Similarly, there is a psychology professor in my city that was convicted of attempted murder. The victim survived, but will be scarred forever. Now this man is a professor and thriving, it does not make any sense to me.

Unfair to judge someone based on that. Trust between a parent and child can be incredible. It was (is still) between my mom and myself.

@@Sindollx666x lmao it doesnt matter how much you trust Your kid... a 17 year old trying to date someone thats either still in middle school or Just got into highschool... Something is wrong with that 17 year old. Regardless of how much you trust Your kid... theres still the other person. When people are older, 4 years isnt that big of a deal quite often, it isnt a big deal at all... but when you're that young, those 4 years represent a pretty huge disparity in experience and understanding. Someone who can be considered an adult in a few months... trying to get with someone that young... Its not at all surprising to hear how controlling he was, let alone how dangerous. Its no wonder he tried going for someone that young and naive; people his age could more easily smell the problems on him.
@Sindollx666x3 жыл бұрын
@@bloodydove5718 I agree with your statement mostly. But I do it's circumstantial, person to person. But there is DEFINITELY a massive difference in age 13 - 17 simply for the development of the mind & experience, maturity, etc. Though some kids are different case by case, is what I mean by circumstantial.
@bloodydove57183 жыл бұрын
@@Sindollx666x if you look at everything case by case and ignore trends, might as well through everything we know about childhood development and psychology out. Humans have patterns, yes everyone is different, but the exception doesnt make the rule. More than likely than not, you'll find a predatory situation at that age with that age gap

Why did she invite Leonard to hang out with her and her new boyfriend?!
@GoblynGoods4 жыл бұрын
I can think of a couple of reasons. Making sure he knows she’s not alone. Maybe she is just wanted a fresh platonic start and this was a safe way to cement that.

How could she have fallen asleep upstairs knowing he was around and about the house?!
@houseofsolomon24404 жыл бұрын
@@GoblynGoods There are safer ways to ensure Leonard knew she wasn't alone, had a new boyfriend, than organizing a group hangout. Human nature contains jealousy - and seeing the new boyfriend in person had massive potential for igniting violent actions, which it did.

@Linda Nicola - Yeah there's a lot here that just doesn't add up. As others have mentioned, she accepted the prison call, yet acted shocked when she heard his voice? She found him creepy yet continued to see him for 2 years, then he stalks her but she continues a friendship with him? Then goes to meet him at the front door (or maybe even let him in) after he had already apparently threatened to kill her. If she was genuinely afraid for her life, why would she do that? And then as you say, to go to sleep with him still in the house? It just doesn't add up
