Yeah, but that can only be conceptualized, a mental exercise. There are brief periods where you can feel that through meditation, or entheogens, but it's temporary and fleeting. Those Monk's that meditate their entire lives attempting to reach that state don't even succeed.

The distinction between "spotlight consciousness" and "floodlight consciousness" was a real eye-opener for me. I’ve always felt limited by the way our society emphasizes focusing on one thing at a time, especially through the education system that conditions us to use only our conscious attention. But this video revealed that our broader awareness-the floodlight consciousness-is always working, absorbing so much more than we give it credit for. It makes me wonder if modern life, with all its distractions and pressures to stay focused, has trained us to undervalue this expansive awareness. Are we losing touch with a greater, more intuitive way of understanding the world? It feels like there’s so much more depth to our perception that we aren’t even tapping into because we’re so fixated on this narrow, spotlight view.

It is probably because Alan Watts was a Baptist minister first, then switched over to teaching Eastern traditions that he is not a vitriolically anti-Abrahamic as myself. My vitriol toward Abrahamicism possibly comes from having 3 very close Abrahamic/Christian friends I fought beside in Viet Nam who all ended their own lives several years after their return home, while I started with Watts' book Nature, Man, and Woman, and have ended up a happy camper. The Abrahamic religious tradition was written for a world that had a superstitious, magical worldview, roughly the level of psychological development of elementary school and middle school children. I perceive this lower level religiosity (not Spirituality) as THE agent that has arrested the development of the Western world, making us 'followers' of this way solely focused on the 'spotlight' consciousness and denied the 'floodlight' consciousness needed for true Spiritual development. I see no excuse whatever for a Western person who has graduated middle school to attach themselves to the ridiculous fairy tales, ludicrous miracles, and preposterous superstitious prophesies of this iron age religious tradition. Contention?

Don't worry fam, you aren't the only one. In some way, what you describe is Nirvana, a cessation of "I" or blowing out, as Alan Watts sometimes describes. The thing is, the only way out is through. If you push away life, you're attached to pushing it away. Live your life, learn what you can, and start preparing for the death Bardo(journey) now, so you can walk that path with grace. Much love ❤

I feel your pain, I was in the same boat, but the thing that saved me is excepting that the ego always puts a twist on what reality actually is, so trauma can really distort ones sense of reality, if you keep going and do good in the world you definitely won't regret it and reality will become clearer and more pleasant and it's all love ❤ we are one another.
