They kind of done that since 9, the reboot. Since the timeline changed, we saw a super bitter Liu Kang who was poised to become evil from X and beyond. NRS tried to make the Cage family heroes when they were never really hero material. ANd now Scorpion is no longer Hanzo. Imagine if SF started making Akuma Sean in the future? Their characters are already established. Don't fix what ain't broken.

It's especially head scratching as Ed Boon, the creator of Mortal Kombat, said that Scorpion, AKA Hanzo Hasashi, is his favorite character in the franchise. Thank you for addressing this. I'm a huge Scorpion main and they started killing him in Mk 11 by having no slide,making him a samurai instead of a ninja,nerfing his teleport and lack of combos and mixup. Mk 1 went full throttle on messing up Scorpion. No over heads,no low combos or specials,lack of combos,slow,no mix ups,you have to play the exact same way every time to win.

The story might unfold like this: Bi Han - as Noob saibot - eventually succesfully murders his brother, harumi, entire scorpion clan, but the solem survivors will be smoke - captured and cyberized - cyrax - getting the same treatment like smoke - and hanzo - who will witness death of his mentors, friends and family, espacially rooting deeply for harumi, cos 'she treated him like mother'. After this, hanzo will vow to destroy cyber lin kuei and noob, getting a deal with quan chi, selling his soul for hellfire abilities, which will feed his rage and vengance. Remember - Kronika tried countless times to rig everything in her favor, but every time it was failing due to natural order of fate. Who knows, Quan might even get revenants back, molding kuai liangs powers to make him a cryomancer. Stuff will eventually shift back closer to OG timeline with of course changed backgrounds. MK1 is just a begining of some stories, treat it as getting to know their origin stories, MK2 and later might fix these characters.

Hopefully in MK2 the story should like: After the Shirai Ryu wins against the Lin Kuei, Kuai Liang becomes the Grand master of the Lin Kuei as Sub zero, and he let his well-deserved successor, Hanzo Hasashi, to lead the Shirai Ryu in his place. Hanzo then becomes Scorpion.

Me personally, I do think that it would've been a much better idea for Scorpion to still be Hanzo in MK1. We've known Hanzo as Scorpion for our whole lives, and simply making Kuai Liang take his place doesn't exactly suit well. That's sort of why I use the Order of Darkness skin for Scorpion because canonically speaking, that is Hanzo. It's sort of a delusion for me since I don't exactly like what NRS did. But then again, I guess NRS was trying to test new waters and see if they could bend the rules a bit.

Hanzo Hasashi is Scorpion I agree. In reply to how Kuai Liang now has fire powers is because Liu Kang restarted time and made him Scorpion rather than Hanzo Hasashi. For MK2, Bi Han will return as Sub-Zero which is why at the end of Kaos Reigns he is housed in the Elder God Temple in hopes of restoring him to Sub-Zero which will possible happen and start the next game where he wakes up in the Temple and steals Shinnok's Amulet.. One thing to keep in mind is that MK1is this franchises first multi-verse based game, or Hanzo grows up to be Scorpion and Kuai Liang will become Sub-Zero (hence his scar).

Bi Han/sub zero solution For the future of mk I think (and hope) Bi Han stays as sub zero. There is an intro where sektor asks bi Han “are you purged form titan haviks magic?” Sub zero replies with “ not exactly sektor” so maybe sub zero unlocks more moves as sub zero idk. But We need a timeline we’re bi Han does not die and turn into noob. And idk maybe give the redemption arc bi Han needs? Scorpion Either kuai liang will die and hanzo will take up the mantel and kuai liang becomes a revenant. Giving hanzo the scorpion mantel and potential giving bi Han a redemption arc. That's all cool and everything but i would have liked it if Bi-Han killed Kuai Liang at the start of Khaos Reigns and continued on to become Noob Saibot. And the next dlc would be about Kuai Liang returning back from hell as Scorpion. Or better yet... Both the brothers killed each other respectively during the wedding and then Havik ressurects them as Noob Saibot and Scorpion respectively where they continue their bitter rivalry as final match of Khaos Reign storyline. The thing is Kuai Liang and Bi Han already had somewhat of a compelling rivalry especially when Bi Han became Noob Saibot. I just kind of wished they went ALL OUT in the expansion... Start the expansion with a time skip, Hanzo is now grown up, trained like Scopion, Then Havok Kidnaps Kuai Liang and corrupts him into Noob Saibot just to add a twist. That way Hanzo can take his mantle as Scorpion again, and the only real difference is we are stuck with the angry edgeboy Sub-zero Bi-Han. It's my least favorite change in the reboot. I like Bi-Han too but Kuai Liang has been my Sub-Zero forever.

In my opinion, what they should’ve done was have the new lore have Takeda not form the Shirai Ryu but instead expand the Lin Kuei to Japan where Hanzo can become Scorpion for the Lin Kuei and Have Kuai be Tundra (basically sub zero with a different move yet similar move set to Bi Han). MK1’s main story ends with Kuai and Tomas defecting to Japan, with Hanzo’s help they turn the Japanese Lin Kuei into the Shirai Ryu, then have Khaos Reigns turn Hanzo and Bi Han into Scorpion and Noob

You also didn't mention the fact that Kui liang is also now marrying Harumi. Y'know, Hanzo's wife? And now is leader of the Shiryrayu. The whole point of Scorpion's story was to honor and restore his family and clan, and now in this new timeline he's not even able to have that. Just... god dammit. Can Netherrealm ever NOT make bad decisions?

Everything about this change was so unnecessary. Even if Hanzo does grow up now to be Scorpion, why? What is he so angry about? What’s his revenge plot? WB took THE thing that made Scorpion so interesting, and killed it. Also, Bi-Han and Kuai Liang already hated each other, especially after Bi-Han becomes Noob Saibot. This is covered very extensively in both MK 9 and MK 11. Warner Bros. splooged all over this game, to the point that it’s even being marketed as a WB game, and not a NRS game. While this game’s gameplay is awesome, the story is a slap in the face. It’s basically WB telling us “hey guys, yk those last 3 games you paid money for, and got really invested in story wise? Yeah none of that matters anymore.”

Hanzo fan since the '92 arcade machine. I'm not "mad" about the MK1 change. It's a video game. However, I don't like it. It was great to finally see Hanzo get his redemption in MK11, and to see the mantle of Scorpion get handed to Kuai Liang after that journey... It's a bit a let down, isn't it? Why not let Hanzo get at least one victory lap before kicking him again?

I think Liu Kang genuinely hates Scorpion. He had love and compassion for everyone in the story except Hanzo and Shang Tsung. It makes sense for Shang Tsung, but Hanzo? He’s a tragic anti-hero. As a massive Scorpion fan this game was a huge disservice and I eventually got fed up with their crap and deleted the game. I have no plans to redownload it

I personally don’t have a problem with Kuai Liang being scorpion. I thought it was an intersting change of pace even though Hanzo will always be the true scorpion.

I agree Switching Hanzo and Kuei Liang characters would have been much better Hanzo would still be able to make Shirai Ryu with Smoke and kid in Smoke's ending could've been Kuei Liang with ice powers

the biggest reason Netherealm killed Scorpion: NOT killing him, Scorpion is cool because he is an undead with hellfire power that got a flaming skull for a head when he pull off his mask. the brother stuff I care less about, stupid sure but not unsalvageable, but the "scorpion is a living person with regular fire power" just makes him lame

I think that the idea of Scorpion and Sub-Zero being brothers is intriguing but it was poorly executed. The problem was that NeatherRealm Studios seemed a bit too desperate to steam line the story and to create conflict in the Lin Kuei for the most predictable outcome to come out. The whole "Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei is a total power-hungry, a-hole who is out to make him and his clan the only things that matters" thing is completely cliché and that just about every one has done this. The other problem is that on top of making the outcome completely predictable, they also just didn't seem to think through the whole thing like how Honzo is a kid and that there is currently no Sub-Zero... unless Kuai Liang suddenly remembers how to do ice magic (It'd also be kind of creepy that a kid is hanging around Smoke and Scorpion while fighting). Personally, what I would have done is this: have Hanzo and Kuai Liang be adopted brothers in the Shirai Ryu. Hanzo's father had discovered a small boy bleeding out during a battle. He took pity on the boy and brought him home, raising him alongside his son. What no one realizes is that a 10-year-old Bi Han lead his 4-year-old brother into the woods, hoping to kill him so that he'd have all the power to himself as eventually, they would have to fight for the honor of being the grandmaster as brothers will compete and the winner becomes the grandmaster as per tradition. Kuai Liang has ice powers and masters those, being given the name "Tundra" as a mockery towards the Lin Kuei. Hanzo is killed by Bi Han and he is hunted by Kuai Liang. Smoke ends up putting 2 and 2 together, realizing the true identity of "Tundra", telling him about what Bi Han did as a child. Tundra takes the name Sub-Zero to gain command of the Lin Kuei and combines them with the Shirai Ryu but there will always be those who do not agree (Sektor) and they create an offshoot of the clan. Hanzo still treats Kuai Liang as his brother, despite being brought back as a wraith, asks him to take care of his wife and child, he kills Bi Han, who comes back as Noob and the circle continues. Sorry if some of that seems rushed, but I'm trying to get my thoughts out quickly while on my lunch break.
