The key against antispin rubber is using variation of speed instead variation of spin. His antispin rubber conpensates misreadings of spin because it is made especially for this purpose, so it's easy to return spiny ball. But they have very low throw angle and they are very slow. The player has to be active if he doesn't want the ball go to the net when he hit a ball with no speed. If the ball has some speed, the player has to touch the ball very carefully and lightly with his antispin because the only thing he can do is to slowdown as much as necessary so that the rebond is short enough to stay on the table. He can't generate topspin to bring the ball back to the table. So, antispin players will make a lot of mistakes by misreading the speed of the ball. If the ball is slower than expected, the ball will go to the net. A moderate skilled antispin player will often adapt by opening his racket, the ball will be higher and easy to play. If the bal is faster than expected, the ball will go over the table because of the flat trajectory given by the antispin rubber.

I like that even Truhls started serving mostly with no spin in the beginning of the third set. Marcus Johansson really knows how to kill the ball with his forehand. Tough to play against these kinds of players. You have to be really focused and play smart.

The first table tennis matches were played with pimpled out rubbers and no sponge. (Hardbat) If one player attacked the other defended. Then sponge was invented to put beneath the pips out rubber to create more spin and speed. After that the next step was the inverted rubber like we know nowadays. Lots of spin and speed was added and defenders didn't had a change anymore. As a reaction to those new rubbers, in the early eighties of the last century, anti topspin rubbers and long pips made their appearance. It was a logical step against the newly made inverted rubbers. Nowadays there's a lot of complaining about these rubbers (all kind of pips and anti's) and their users. But remember that it all STARTED with PIPS OUT rubber and the inverted rubber as we know it nowadays came much later. I wish everyone will have happy times behind the ping pong table and just enjoy the game. B.t.w. i myself play inverted rubber.

In theory, LPs & Anti are great for ppl with heath issue/unable to read the spins. Practically, these are the most difficult rubbers to master & they have a serious disadvantage of not beiing able to perform a real topspin attack. That's why there're only a few pro players use them, especially anti.

Truls' footwork is a matter of concern. He's consistently flatfooted instead of the high readiness forefoot posture that is required and which the Chinese all have at the core of their game.That's why Truls can appear slow and amateurish. Obviously his level of spin control, reaction speed and placement is world class but to be a #1 you need to be world class at everything.

It’s because of anti. Readiness you are talking about stems from the player expecting the flow of the rally. This anti garbage breaks the rhythm and slow things down to where training is negated. It drags the inverted player down to the anti player’s level.

Möregårdh plays smart and only as much as he needs to win the game and then looks bad. But Marcus seems to use the best tactics and ball placement. He so effortless place the ball outside of Möregårdhs reach to win so many points. You can see that Möregård hasn't played much against a no spin racket, and don't need to as there's no such top players, and he sometimes directs his returns as if the ball had heavy side spin and it ends up at the side of the table.

Hated playing against anti back when I was a tournament player. Watching those dead little backhands Johansson hits is practically giving me PTSD! I wasn't very good (1300 peak) but I could usually at least get a few forehand rallies going and have a bit of fun with better players before they put me away in three sets, and in any given round robin draw I could typically beat one of my three or four opponents (once in a great while two). But anytime I faced an antispin guy I was as helpless as a baby.

For top players like Truls, it is not worth spending too much time on this. Eventually, they will win anyway. It may take them 1 or 2 sets to get going, and it will not be fun to watch. But at the end of the day they will win, simply because they adapt their gameplay to the situation.

Everyone has a great fh topspin when the ball is at the level of your shoulder. This is just painful to watch, the dude has no physicality and no technique, doesn't move his feet, just puts his anti on the ball and hopes the opponent gives him a high ball. It's beyond me why this is still allowed. If this kinda works against Truls, think about what this does to amateur tournaments. I see it every tournament I play, and it's completely soul crushing for people who actually take table tennis seriously and try to practice to develop the skill.

I played outdoor for so many years before entering club level tabletennis (swiss 3rd league, approximately). Everybody is telling me i do extremely good against pimples and anti. Thats my secret. From years of outdoor playing, im very good at hitting the ball flat and not creating spin, since cheap outdoor bats normally cant anyways. And because i dont do much spin, these material players cant profit from me 😂❤ Counter the counter

I only use anti against short pips or long pips. This one guy at my club generates so much backspin with his short pips while keeping the ball so low that is impossible for an attacker to lift it. Also, my anti gives long pips players problems where they would handle me fairly easily with their spin reversal long pips. So, if you ban anti, you gotta ban pips too..

Recently I fought my colleagues in tournament ,they actually nervous when playing with antispin gigant 1 1.2 sponge. It's really slow and disturb their game. But in final I was lost. But for me As defender without attacking, most of the time. It was victory for me. No spin at all. Just hitting the ball and control

The moment i see someone with antispin or long pips, i think: dude has a poor backhand. Hell, i have a mate who i'd defeat 11-5 easy and got antispin about half a year ago. Instantly went from barely being able to return my serves to returning all of them and now i defeat him at 11-8. Can someone explain the skill of that?

It's because what it works against classic backside, doesn't work against antispin rubber. If you play the same way, you'll lose. @@418jp that's 100% true. My issue is that my mate went from losing quite badly to making me play focused just by changing his rubber. He didn't improve his backhand, he didn't improve his serve return and that's where my issue is. Hell, what i find really funny is that everytime he returns my balls, he is quite confindent that i'll miss... i usually don't ( at least not with him )

I hate games like that where one opponent is trying to "destroy" the game. They want the points, but in my point of view it makes much more fun, if you are playing a fluent game. Can anyone explain me, what is fun on that style? Maybe to annoy the opponent...

Personally, I dont think anybody likes to play like this. It`s just a lack of skill that brings players to play anti rubbers. With the destroying playing style they can play 1-2 leagues higher than they would play otherwise.

I'm a layman, but I often notice that antispin and pimple players are often better or more successful than equivalent players with usual rubbers only because of their material. As a layman, I think that's very unfair, but it's the rules. I would only let Anti play against Anti THAT WOULD BE FAIR. It would be unthinkable in all other sports that such different materials are allowed to be used. Now, a lot of material players will rant, but it's my opinion based on my observation. Sorry
