If your mail comes back after deleting, it means that your mail is being left on the server after being deleted from your device, which is handy when you use more than one device, but can cause the mail to come back to your iPhone. TO FIX THE RETURNING EMAIL PROBLEM: On your iPhone, open the SETTINGS app (the little gray gears). Select "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" Select your mail account under ACCOUNTS. Scroll all the way down, and select ADVANCED. Look at the setting "Delete from server". If you have NEVER or SEVEN DAYS selected, some or all of the mail will come back. If you change it to "When removed from inbox", the mail will be gone forever and ever. Amen.

Absolutely cool. Has been working fine these past years. Thank you. Just now, my updated phone does not show the TRASH word. Instead it sends me to the accounts menu side. But that's OK. I just choose INBOX and the messages go to my TRASH. Just a different last step. Don't know why it started doing that last move, but essentially the process is the same.
