So in the Truman show, the man (Truman) is the star of a tv series but he doesn’t know that. He just thinks he’s living in the real world. Everybody around him are actors , but he doesn’t know it. The actress who plays his wife is likely married in the real world, and so she is crossing her fingers as to say that she isn’t really getting married and that it’s just for the show.

The craziest thing to me in this movie is the actors commitment to this fabricated world. The women playing his wife realistically never gets to go back out into the real world, she has to live in a fake house, aware of her fabricated surroundings, pretending to love a man, pretending to be a nurse, plugging products you know she doesn’t use. That has to be a personal hell.

DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT THE MOVIE TO BE SPOILT! The Truman Show Movie Plot: This is Truman. Truman's life is recorded 24/7, he lives in a town called Seahaven in a massive dome with the sky painted on the inside. This, according to the creator, is because people should watch something 100% real, with no acting, to 'inspire' them and give them 'hope'. His life is a TV show and he doesn't know. Truman has always wanted to explore, since a young age, and wanted to visit Fiji. However, the Creator of the show didn't want him to find the end of the world, or he'd try to escape and the show would be over and he'd lose money etc. So what they did is traumatized him. They planned for him to and made him go on a boat trip to Fiji with his (fake) dad, as a child, but made it seem as though he dies during a scary storm. Ever since Truman had been afraid of the ocean. Truman's famous quote to his neighbours before he goes to work is "Good morning. And in case i dont see ya, good afternoon, good evening and good night!" (Remember this) Anyway Truman starts realising things are wrong and are off in this world. For example: 1. A spotlight drops from the sky, labelled with the name of a star. 2. His radio in the car tunes into a secret channel, in which somebody is telling people the exact location Truman is constantly. 3. He runs into a road suddenly and all the cars swerve out the way. 4. He goes into a building and behind elevator doors he finds a secret room with a table and chairs and people holding scripts, then he is swiftly escorted out. 5. His wife is constantly advertising things, like Cocoa brands infront of him. 6. When he questions his wife, she pulls out a knife (previously advertised) and tells him to stop. Truman pushes the knife to her chest and she screams "Somebody do something fast", which is when he gets really suspicious of everything. 7. Whenever he tries to leave Seahaven by the road, cars always, and only then, block his path. 8. His wife says she has to do a serious surgery on a girl at the hospital, and when he follows and spies on her, she has no clue what she is doing and is standing around nervously near a 'sick' person pretending (badly) that she is doing surgery. He is then kicked out. She only is pretending as she was warned by the receptionist, so she knows he is watching. 9. He falls in love with a girl near the start, who runs them away to a beach. She quickly tells him nothing is real (she is called Silvia btw) before getting basically kidnapped by a guy in a car and is taken away. Silvia is against all this too, and wants Truman to be free. She speaks to the creator at one point, asking why he is so cruel. 10. He sees his (supposedly dead) dad as a homeless man in the distance. When Truman realises, his 'dad' is quickly taken away, Truman tries to run after them but isn't fast enough, as his 'dad' is thrown into a bus. 11. He realises everybody does pretty much the same thing every day. For example he predicts which people will cross the street and it was fully correct. I think he guessed a woman on a red bike, a man with flowers and then a yellow VW beetle, showing his wife that he knew it. So he decided he had to leave. He tried to go on a boat but was too scared. Then a bus out of Seahaven, but they pretended it broke down. There are posters everywhere misleading him into thinking he'll get struck by lightning or be robbed and attacked by criminals if he goes by plane. Then he decides that him and his wife (i think after he did that prediction) should leave straight away. So he drives and reaches a bridge across a river. He is terrified to go across so he slams his foot on the acceleration pedal, closes his eyes and commands his wife to steer for him. They cross, unharmed and reach a road that goes through a forest. It says "Very dangerous forest fire" or "extreme forest fire ahead" or something on a sign. But Truman ignores it, as his wife panics. He drives through burning gasoline on the road then encounters emergency sirens. People in them radiation-proof suits or whatever then are knock him out after he tries to run past them... he is angered. Eventually; One day, he puts cushions under his covers, so the cctv recorders and all the people watching think he is asleep. In reality, he snuck past all the cameras and faced his fear. The ocean. He got on a boat and sailed off. People realised too late, when his fake friend (just really an actor) checked on him, ans found out that he was gone. Eventually the creator found him by a camera on his boat. He can control the weather using a control panel and so causes severe winds and storms. Truman almost dies 2 or 3 times, but eventually reaches the edge of the sphere he is trapped in. Meanwhile all the actors in Seahaven are out looking for him... He walks along a path beside the 'sea', and encounters a staircase to an exit. He is relieved. But suddenly a voice comes from the sun, right as he is about to leave through the door! T "who are you?" C "i am the creator of a show that inspires millions." T "who am i?" C "you are the star" T "is everything fake?" C "you aren't Truman. But listen. You wont find any more truth out there than you will in the world i created for you." T "..." C "Say something godd*mmit, you are on television!" T "in case i dont see ya. Good afternoon, good evening and good night!" *walks through the exit* THE END Hope this helped u guys who cant watch it to understand

How would he know what crossing your fingers meant? Why would they want him to know any contemporary superstitions? Does he even know any modern media? He exclusively listens to classical music. There's no other stations and I think even a-ha would be too exciting for him. He watches I Love Lucy reruns. I don't think they played any Friends or anything current to that time. Has he even used a modern computer in the movie? Windows 95 was out and Macs were pretty popular. He couldn't tell you much about Fiji besides it being far away. He doesn't seem to mention the laid back island culture, the herbal Xanax called Kava-Kava, all the fish and coconuts you want, beautiful water, aquifer water with no bacteria whatsoever, their history as a former British colony, etc. They were generous for giving him a globe and a geographical education... believe it or not, the other side of Fiji is Timbuktu, Mali.
