I'm an Australian lawyer deeply disturbed by the significant support for Trump. I have taken the time to read both the indictments in the documents case and now the Jan 6 indictment. Adding to this, I read the judgement in which Sidney Powell et al. were held personally responsible for costs as a result of bringing frivolous lawsuits. On a positive note, I'm very impressed by all of the above documents in the use of logical reasoning and plain English. We all know that it's highly unlikely that die-hard Trump supporters will do the same. Let me take some liberty in generalising and state that Trump supporters take pride in being uninformed, because that is exactly what they are. I couldn't resist addressing a particularly stupid comment by a Trump supporter to a KZbin video the other day. All I did was state a fact. The Trump commenter replied, accusing me of "making shit up"... I replied that the matter in question was reported in a newspaper of record. The reply then came back stating that there is no such thing as a newspaper of record. Quite frankly, I found that response both illustrative and, quite frankly, just plain sad. At this critical time in American history, I have subscribed to the New York Times. Knowing the great pains that are taken in checking sources in order to be both authoritative and independent, it is sad to think that being informed is seen as elitism by so many. I sincerely hope America can stave off this clear and present threat to your democracy.

I don't Trump could have succeeded without the demise of the Fairness Doctrine (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FCC_fairness_doctrine) - that, coupled with the explosion of unregulated cable "news" AND the concurrent underfunding and to some extent discrediting/devaluing (by Republicans) of public education has produced a demographic that is lightly-educated, well-armed, suspicious of outsiders and convinced that a wrathful, racist white Gawd is on their side. That's your GOP base, or at least the face of it. The last 8 years have been an increasingly embarrassing time to be an American.

I’m a native Georgian. Many years ago a dear friend from Illinois asked me why there were re-enactments of civil war battles in the South. It wasn’t done where she was from . Without missing a beat, without any thought, I said, “You didn’t lose.” I don’t know if you can prevent losers from making heroes and martyrs.
