Retired paralegal here. Us paralegals and the legal secretaries all know rules of evidence because it’s part of our jobs. We’re part of a cross checking system to give the attorneys all the material needed to litigate the case and win. Trump’s attorneys not knowing basics such as rules of evidence missed almost a year in law school.

@@B_Bodziak That’s pretty funny. A Better Call Saul school of law. Actually though sometimes graduates of crappy schools go on to be some of the best. That’s because some … a few anyway are really motivated but for some reason or another couldn’t get into a highly rated school. But this woman I don’t get at all. She gives of a coming from money vibe and was taken on by a New York law firm and allowed to be first chair on a highly public trial. I can’t think of any decent law firm would let someone so unprepared and inept that would allow such a thing. I don’t get any nepotism clues either. It’s very weird. As Mr. Rivers often points out being a trial lawyer takes a certain bravado, confidence and swagger; none of what this woman has. I don’t think she would make a good reporter for Court TV either. Everything about this award portion in the whole defamation trial is weird and opaque. All the best.

Exactly. I believe Bruce is completely misinterpreting her “incompetence” during the trial. The goal of her mistakes is to convince MAGA the courts are fundamentally and irredeemably corrupt. It gives him the right in their eyes to do whatever necessary to “fix” the judicial system. It will seriously test the rule of law in America if he’s elected in the fall. Given Trump has previously publicly called for the constitution to be suspended there should be much greater concern over the optics of demonization of courts.

This is what my grandpa pearls of wisdom he gave to all grandkids: Think more speak less and if you want to speak make sure to be as diplomatic as possible while treating others like you yourself want to be treated. Do not antagonize people that are "bigger than you" too much because they have the will, power and financial means to crush you if they deem so because there is always something that can be found out. Be very timid when confronted in court because the judge will see what kind of person he or she is dealing with. Stick to the facts. Do your own research and do not follow idols. Know yourself and if you are too easily goaded into a rise, getting angry, bit hot under the collar take a deep breath, count to 15 while thinking it over because emotional responses and outbursts WILL hurt you in more than one way". He had many more but those illustrate some of the issues that trump had. Thank you Sir for explaining these things and give us watchers valuable lessons.

Habba is exactly the type of female lawyer that I hoped when I was the first woman litigator in my local courts. I did not want to be treated any differently than my male counterparts. My opponent counsel were always gentlemen, opening the courthouse doors for me … but I made sure I conducted myself as a professional and with respect and courtesy. I prepared carefully, knew what each witness was going to say, helped my client and my witnesses knew what to expect, to stop speaking if the judge spoke, I stood up, or if opposing counsel did so. That was just showing respect for the judiciary, my opposing counsel, court personnel, any jurors, clerks, and all in the system. But I made sure I knew the Rules of Evidence and of Procedure and followed them.
