In the early 1980’s I worked at Hughes Aircraft in the data center for the Naval F-18A Hornet. When I left the company I had to turn in my clearance badge and lost all of my security clearance. This is common practice everywhere but in the govt. Once any official leaves or is fired from their job in the govt should automatically lose any and all security clearance they had. That’s a no brainer. The reason why they were able to keep those clearances is so they can make more money from media outlets as “experts” and become talking heads. Otherwise they need the clearance for the job they got after the government job. I retired 7 years ago and still have email address, health insurance, and ID card from my previous employer, but they did terminate clearance.

In addition to that, they should be signing some sort of non disclosure agreements that they will not share /use this information in any way. Think off how many of these persons move from government to media or the defense industries.

I had a top secret clearance at 18 because I worked in the TOC on a deployment to Iraq. The place all missions and Intel run through. I was absolutely not ready for such responsibilities and was amazed they gave it to me. I had full access to the sipernet computers. I wasn't even Intel either but a combat engineer.
