We live in a world beyond Orwell's darkest dreams. The fourth estate, desperate to stay profitable, has become habituated to sanewashing any and all of this unhinged behaviour and rhetoric. Without a two horse race, there's nothing to drive views and clicks for that profit margin. So, if it's an unhinged disaster running against boring normality, the bar will always be lowered to fit the former into the overton window, so that the Hollywood-style plot tension can be maintained. The media, as a whole, is grasping for relevance and will do anything to keep it - cost to society be damned.

I live in South Venice, Florida. This is our second major storm in two weeks! And the 7th or 8th in as many years, give or take. I was deeply angered by our governor who held one of his press "conferences" that does not welcome citizen participation. He said these hurricanes have always been part of Florida living and they seem to be worse now because our population has grown to nearly 23 million. I'm 70 years old and have lived my entire life in Florida. The governor could only make a statement so false on its face if he has an agenda of denying climate change and rewarding those who turn Floridians against expertise and science. He is the most dangerous man in Florida and the worst governor and poorest leader since the Jim Crow era. In fact, Gov. DeSantis is dragging us back to that era by scapegosting immigrants, Black Americans, and children with gender disorders. He Caterina to the billionaire class and their unwitting allies, Evangelicals Christians. He governs by bullying, and when that doesn't work, he intimidates with his version of the "show trial" and sending his special police force to frighten voters. The press pays scant attention to what this monster is doing in Florida. Please bring to light the dark place DeSantis has takes this state, and how much further he plans on going. There are things that we can do to reverse the warming ocean tempo, and a true civil sevant would lead the way,not make up some story about Florida always having these experience and how we have to shut up and accept our fate. What kind of leadership is that? When did learned ignorance become government policy? When did any respected leader ever ask the people to accept their fate by pretending we've always had cat 4 and 5 hurricanes several times a year? Doesn't anyone see how preposterous that is? They are pretty good compared to most legacy media but are often guilty of omitting facts. e.g In this episode they mention that Trump shooter Thomas Mathew Crooks was a registered republican, but then omit he financially donated to the Democrats via ActBlue. Reality is the US is a crony capitalist sate where both major political parties are largely steered by the major donors, lobbyist and large corporate interests. For example, the video today doing the round of Biden saying to get vaccinated before the hurricane was correctly identified as coming from 2021. The problem with criticizing Walz lies/exaggerations/whatever is that the level of exactitude Democrats are being expected to speak with is unreasonable. The man has been a public figure for decades and they have two quotes that sound like a reasonable way to say something but are not true from the perspective of a lawyer or debate club. It is not useful to subject those things to this level of scrutiny. Neither of these things are deceptive, let alone harmful. You register at the same place you get ID, you can't just show up and vote. You must be registered by the state at your local polling location. This is all done at the DMV, same people that issue IDs. Voter ID doesn't do anything but add another step to voting which reduces votes. Vote suppression is an old tactic of conservatives.

I don't get it. There is 650 million for immigrants, but FEMA has no money for disaster, and yet everyone here is whining about the "misinformation", but why don't the government redirect those funds to care for their own citizens. Because the complaint was that the money was 'stolen.' It was not stolen, there are literally thousands of government programs for every conceivable thing, it's not helpful to compare just two. You can argue that much like Trump drained the FEMA Disaster money and diverted it to immigration, so Biden could drain the immigration money and divert it to disaster money, but as I said, considering the government has so much money and so many programs, if you focus on one government program you're missing the point, immigration also needs money whether you like it or not, and there would be thousands of other different sources of possible funding that you could support FEMA.

I have heard that the lowest audible sound a person can hear is 20hz. I believe this has been the level of frequency our government has been operating under when it comes to the sufferage of our fellow American citizens. From the devastating fires in Maui to the destruction from hurricane Helene, and now hurricane Milton theating the state of Florida. Florida's second hurricane in weeks. Our current administration has acknowledged the events that have occurred but their response to aid people who's lives have been torn apart has been minimal. They are not even embarrassed or ashamed by their lack of concern. I don't even want to think about FEMA which is this administration's answer to aid our people. FEMA at this point is a cruel joke. The thing about disasters with all their devastation and destruction is they don't care which party you are voting for, what color your skin is, what your spiritual believes are, or whether you are rich or poor. Disasters do not discriminate and are not prejudice. They affect us all equally and they strike how, where, and when they choose. We will soon be meeting at the polls to cast our votes for the leaders of our states and our president. There is one major issue that you need to consider as you cast your vote. Do you want to continue with an administration that operates at 20hz when it comes to the welfare of our citizens or do you want an administration that puts our citizens first?
