Let California do what they want. I thought drumpf was all for state rights. He wants to give so many different things back to states figuring it out for themselves. It shouldn't effect the automakers at all. They make plenty of vehicles that comply with California rules for emissions. They make many that don't as well, and those just won't be able to be sold there. Simple as that. I hope the new Pallisade gets upgraded powertrain options, hybrid, phev, etc.

With electric motors being so much better, ICE horse power is no longer a selling point. That fell away when supercars started losing races to Tesla's. Note that in-wheel electric motors have major problems due to rotational inertia. There are severe limits to just how much rotating mass you can put in the wheel before you start having real trouble getting the car to turn at speed, let alone under acceleration or deceleration. -Matt

However, EPA has wrongly allowed them to share these regulations with other states, in violation of the provisions of the Clean Air Act (CAA). The EU, as an exercise, has proven that incentives don't really achieve the goal they are designed for. Of course, the free money program is a vote buying expedition, but you knew that already. "I'm going to buy an EV because there is a $7,500 rebate." Sure enough the people take advantage of the rebates. The rebates however, are made from money and the money ends. Then the rebates stop and people "stop buying EV's." That actually isn't what happens. In Germany many took advantage of the incentive. It ended and "EV buyers" sat tight and waited for the incentive to start up again. Now politicians never ever jerk things around do they? One president buys some votes with "free EV money" and a new president buys some votes by giving the free money to someone else. Shocking isn't it? Politics aside, the automobile is a consumer product. Gas vehicle sales have been in decline globally since 2019. "The consumer" not the government, nor the environmentalists or car manufacturers has begun the process of adopting the "new technology" and every measure of automobile sales globally reflects this. There were 5 EV models for sale in the US just a few years past....there are 71 new EV models available at US dealerships today and as we see here on Autoline? New entrants arrive each month.

Constantly ratcheting up the mileage standards forces the car companies to keep changing their designs and materials, which costs a lot. ICE engines are about as good as they can get, and demanding further improvement is like telling a grown person to add another inch to their height. Turbocharging and increasing plastic in cars make them less durable, and having to replace a car in 10 years instead of 20 is bad for the environment. EV's are well on their way to replacing ICE cars; you don't have to force the transition; the low maintenance, lower fuel costs, and wonderful quietness of EV's will have them win on merits. Keeping designs for cars the same for years allows for a cheaper car, which helps consumers.

BEVs should not be subsidized. It is not the role of the government to artificially manipulate markets and pick winners or losers. If BEVs are as good as so many say they are, they shouldn't need subsidies. Diverting the funds to promote domestic battery production is a much wiser and more efficient move. Not only would it allow sales to other countries, thus helping the trade balance, it would also ensure a sufficient domestic supply both for public and military use. Get rid of those regulations and subsidies and let people get what they want. We want V8s and real cars, not iPhones on wheels

Wake up.... 1990 was 34 years ago. ANY new vehicle is MORE "computer" than "car." If YOU believe that trend will reverse itself.... you're fooling yourself.

Aren't there enough v8s? ICE is dead, why would they invest in a 100 year technology which has reached its peak like 10 years ago. Move on

We want both which is why the market share for EVs is so high.

@@kingkontinuum A subsidized 9% is hardly high. HEVs and PHEVs can meet the needs of many more people than can BEVs. If a BEV works for you then great! Enjoy it. However, they must not be forced upon others when they don't meet their needs, nor should such people be forced to subsidize the purchase of BEVs via government subsidies.

The horsepower wars ended the moment Teslas started beating supercars a few years ago, and the automakers know it. Remember all those ads about engines and horsepower and turbos and tweaks and yada yada yada? All gone now, because nobody cares any more. The days of huge engines are over.
