I still fail to see how Trump was ever an option. "He says what he thinks" shouldn't be what qualifies him as a politician. And of course no one wants to be called a racist when they aren't racist. But if you vote for a racist to run your country, you clearly agree that it is acceptable to discriminate against people of other races than your own.

Totally agree with you. The issue now is we're all in this boat and we have to make it work - but there's likely to be 52% of the people trying to make it work and 48% resisting just so they can have the smug satisfaction of saying 'told you so' even though they could and should have been helping. There's still far too many people crying over spilt breast milk.
@alpen49217 жыл бұрын
DaveMurphyEngineer I 100% agree that we need to work together to make this work. My fear is that at the end of the day we have to rely on the decision makers (elected politicians) to make the final call and to be frank; i lose faith at that point. I don't care left, right or center it's an impossible task for any side so I feel they just agree to play hot potato with the voting system, i.e. We've been in charge for a while and we can no longer cover the cracks with our band aids so you have a turn. Cynical, you may say, and I agree if used in its proper application.
@DaveMurphyEngineer7 жыл бұрын
al pen Totally agreed, but who elected those politicians - the general public - and so the problem comes full circle. If we can't trust the elected government then there's no point being there (he says from Saudi Arabia). Yes, there's little faith in the decision makers but, like the remoaners whinging about something they cannot change, neither can we change the people we've elected to see this through, so we have to try and make the best with what we've got. Sometimes some blind faith and a healthy dose of ignorance can be a good thing.
@alpen49217 жыл бұрын
DaveMurphyEngineer with the greatest respect I disagree that having blind faith and a little ignorance is the way forwards. As to the matter of coming full circle which the general public having voted, you are right. What I would like to add to this is that as the people we are miss-informed by the elected, to influence the voting system. Through the internet we becoming more informed, however a little information can be dangerous in the wrong hands. This can be seen in the overwhelming desire to upset the status quo, by voting for the outsider as a protest vote. I don't have an answer, alternative to this. But I do know having only this option makes me uncomfortable. Maybe Gene Roddenberry had it right in 1966.
@DaveMurphyEngineer7 жыл бұрын
al pen My point RE: A little blind faith and ignorance is about it being too easy to get overwhelmed by the control you don't have on the system. The nation has voted, that vote must be enacted, it's too late for an individual to have any meaningful influence on it but that doesn't stop people 'panicking' about it - maybe I'm not phrasing it very well but there's no point getting wound up about it anymore, it would be far more productive for people to 'get on board'. Totally agree with you about being misinformed by the electorate but if people simply believe everything they're told without conducting their own research and checking their facts - and we all know that everything written on the internet is 100% factually correct - then we are responsible for the choices we make. Sadly no system is perfect, but we pride ourselves on having a fair democratic society. I think Mr Trump perfectly illustrates your point about the protest vote - I'm not 100% sure about applying the same theory to Brexit.
@alpen49217 жыл бұрын
DaveMurphyEngineer It is difficult relaying one opinions the rough these messages, but I understand the point you are making. All of which are valid. I would like to say I agree totally with yours, and The BvG, position that we must join together, no matter how we voted and make this democratic decision work. The alternative leads to chaos. I just don't have any confidence of our political parties that they are working in our best interests. So far everything points to the opposite. Accountability, integrity they do not have their place in party politics and that, to me, is where they lose my support. Anyhow, its a hot topic, and I am sure you must be bored. "Especially when the tabloid media had a vested interest in promoting leaving the EU to escape tougher regulations - hence Murdoch and Lord Rothmere used their papers to get what they wanted, and often twisted the truth..." Exactly This. Unfortunately and regardless of what a lot Brexiters say, overall many don't have a rational argument for leaving. Most voted out based on the bile written in the likes of the Mail/Express/Sun. Pretty much everyone I have spoken to from the Home Counties where I am originally from can't actually articulate a reason other than vague soundbites as they know that their actual reason (immigration, closing the borders) is all they've got and all they read is The Mail. Some could only quote "Norway is OK isn't it" I had to explain the difference between them and us. There is no question that there are many Brexiters that have genuine thought out reasons to leave but most have had their minds subverted by the right wing gutter press.

On a personal level, the globalist media moguls had a larger vested interest in staying in the EU but facts should never get in the way of quality propaganda.
@DavidAnderson-pr1ru7 жыл бұрын
Most of the remainers I have asked, voted based on fear, fear that something in their comfortable life might just change slightly in the negative. Fear of change, greed, call it what you will. The idea that remainers are successful and educated and that leavers are unsuccessful and/or old (poor), may well have some foundation in that remainers don't want anything to change and leavers are happy to take the chance. Most of the arguments put forward to support the remainers are also based on what they have heard and read in the media. Whether you are a remainer or leaver you were subject to a media bombardment of bullshit from both sides. There are genuine valid arguments for both sides and it was a close thing so it's time for both sides to stop ridiculing each other and accept where we are. I voted to leave for many reasons which i won't go into here, suffice to say that democracy, corruption and the fact that the common market turned into a monster that just doesn't work, are the three main ones.

Baron, while I largely agree with the notion that mass labeling is harmful in the long run I have to disagree with your thesis when it comes to the minutiae. Yes people don't like being talked down to because of where they live or certain values, however you have to remember that this divide wasn't entirely generated by those on one side of the gulf. The large problem is this; big complex ideas such a globalism and automation affecting industrial production or multiculturalism require a bit of time to explain. The problem comes when one group is repeatedly pandered to in base terms and bombarded with messages playing to their paranoia and discontent. These ideas are, of course, simpler to understand and therefore are increasingly harder to dislodge. At some point even the most dedicated civil servants grow frustrated trying to climb this proverbial over-vertical wall. Tie this in with other concepts such as implicit bias (which I suspect played a part in a larger swath of the Trump/Brexit voting groups than even they realize), multiple journalism outlets struggling or failing to address the actual stories in lieu of filling airtime, and increasingly lax campaign finance laws that make this kind of mass manipulation all the more eaiser... You see my point, there are a lot of big ideas tied together that can't be explained in buzzwords. And that's kind of the problem.

For answering the "Why is there not free trade everywhere?" question: There are 2 main criticisms of free trade: 1: Let's say that from England, 1,000kg of steel costs £10,000, this takes into consideration all of the costs of mining it, labour costs, transportation costs e.t.c. and if UK companies buy and use UK steel, there is no money loss from UK economy as the money is going from one UK body to another. Now, because other countries may have drastically cheaper labor costs and may have better ore sites, they could sell 1,000kg of steel to the UK for £5,000. This would make all of the UK companies buy their steel from this other country, leading to money going from the UK economy to another country, therefore the UK is losing money. To combat this, countries put tariffs (taxes) on imported goods to make it more viable to buy goods from their own country so that money is not being lost from their economy. 2: Having free trade makes it incredibly hard for businesses selling goods or services to start up, as prices would be impossible to compete with because of the cheaper prices from abroad.
@PartialS7 жыл бұрын
Beautiful rant, and made me feel a bit better about things. I voted remain because I'm scared. Truly. The UK could sustain importance because we had coal, and then North sea oil, and timing. We don't have those any more. Energy in = Energy out. Where's our energy now? Portugal used to be pretty important too. And Spain. Japan is important because of the US. Trump doesn't give a fuck about the UK. He might have given one about Europe, but not a broken up one. Russia would also like a broken up Europe. The inertia of Europe is its strength. The Brexit vote just makes it easier for governments to *not* do right by the people. However the population votes, it still votes for a government. we not taking back the power, we're just handing it to somebody else who then has fewer restrictions placed on how they fuck the people.
@NefariousVirtuoso887 жыл бұрын
Trump LOVES the UK. *The Brexit vote just makes it easier for governments to not do right by the people* - Nooooo. Brexit makes our politicians the decision makers not people in Brussels. People who WE elect or remove will be making policy. You are absolutely wrong here. *we not taking back the power, we're just handing it to somebody else who then has fewer restrictions placed on how they fuck the people* - Our laws are currently made by people in Brussels. The EU court overrules our supreme court. Your point here is entirely backward.
@PartialS7 жыл бұрын
NefariousVirtuoso88 "People who WE elect or remove will be making policy" - EU politicians are still democratically elected. The supreme court will decide on the 24th whether or not article 50 should go to a parliamentary vote. The decision will likely be considered "undemocratic" in pro-brexit media if it decides that it *should* go to a parliamentary vote. I don't understand global economics enough to trust myself to make a decision on it, which is why I voted remain. It's not my area of expertise. So I democratically vote in elections for parties I believe have the capability to do the job, as does every other voter. Not enough people voted for UKIP to get them elected, but enough did for the Tories to bring people back by offering a referendum on a decision that the public are not sufficiently qualified to make, wrongly assuming that the size of the vote would be in a minority. If you were about to take off in an aircraft, would you put what fuel it should have to a vote? What buttons to press? If you didn't put it to a vote, would that be undemocratic? There's a guy at the front who is saying the right things. He's saying we should put *British* petrol in it. Good *British* petrol made by the good people of Britain, not *Romanian* petrol. There's another guy who's suggesting that we let the pilots decide what fuel the aircraft needs. Nobody's listening to him though. He sounds like an expert, and what have experts ever done for us? Why should we let the pilots make the decisions on what fuel the plane needs? Putting in *British* petrol will secure *British* jobs, bring money back into Britain, and give a better future to British children. Yes. It's just like Braveheart. So it goes to a vote. And YES! THE PEOPLE VOTED TO PUT GOOD BRITISH PETROL IN THE PLANE. Which then either doesn't take off, or crashes and burns soon after. Planes don't run on petrol. Cameron got off the plane as they were putting the fuel in. He can afford to take a different flight. So did Farage, strangely.
@WolfHeathen7 жыл бұрын
You don't have your coal industry anymore because the EU decided you shouldn't. You don't have your energy markets anymore because they EU decided you shouldn't. You don't have you fishing industry anymore because the EU said you shouldn't. The reason why so many markets have been destroyed in so many countries around Europe is because the EU told everyone that they had to divide it up among each other, resulting in not enough resources being left over for anyone. Voting remain is voting for the exact same problems you just mentioned. And how would the EU commission do right by the European people? The argument you gave about not doing right by the people is exactly what the EU has done. It has moved all power away from your democratically elected parliament to the un-elected EU commission that pretty much just governs itself without any input from the outside. Sure, you vote for the EU parliament but the EU parliament doesn't actually decide anything at all. It's a figure head to make people think they have a democratic EU.

I voted out. I had two main reasons. One being I thought instead of pumping money into the EU we could use it beefing up or public services and number two, immigration. Not the I'm racist and say they're taking our jobs, but we can't cope with the number of people as it is, house prices are going through the roof. We need to focus on ourselves for a little while rather than others.
@ian9outof107 жыл бұрын
I voted in. I live in a house that cost too much in an area that's too expensive. But immigration isn't the problem here, it's simple supply and demand. People want to live in London, so the house prices go up. People don't want to live in other places, so the prices stay low. For the money I spent on this house, I could have a fucking castle up north. It was ever thus, and it's not because of immigration. For one thing there is no replacement for the homes which were sold off as council houses under right to buy. Cue a lot of people who desperately need a council house being unable to find one. Immigration gets the blame, but the reality is that it's FUCKING hard to get on benefits, ask people who do it. It's a battle every week not to get sanctioned and end up homeless. Look at places in London that used to be council flats and are now worth half a million quid. That's bullshit man, and there's no effort made to replace even a tiny fragment of that housing. I don't hate people who voted out. I want to hear their reasons and discuss it with them. What you tend to get - and this isn't a hard and fast rule at all - is the same sort of shouting you get from the left. It's indignant claims that the EU is undemocratic when Britain gets a vote on every matter, and there must be 100% agreement for a rule to pass. It's the claim that immigration is out of control when the EU actually has controls that require migrants to prove that they can support themselves, or have a job or have a pension they can use. Lies about funding our health service with the money we save made me livid. The health service needs more money, and the conservatives cut it back and farm it out to private companies who make a profit on the services they provide back. This isn't inherently bad, but it's also not saving money and you can WATCH the NHS suffering for this right now. I have total empathy for people who don't have it great, I can SEE why they voted to leave the EU but they're fighting the wrong machine. Things won't get better for poor people when we're out of the EU because it is in the interest of those in power to keep the poor people suppressed. But then Von Grumble said it - life isn't fair. I guess those people with nothing just have to accept their lot, and realise they'll never have anything. Right? Or does that sound like an idea worth fighting against?
@watchzeitgeist27 жыл бұрын
Mate, it isn't that simple. look who you asked to pump the money into public services.... You asked the country's elite-far-right, who like to privatise everything, to pump money into the public sector. Are you misinformed, or just very stupid? Also, house prices don't go up with a net influx of ~50,000 a year (did you even look up government statistic at any point, or just listen to the bullshit you were fed in the media?) It's because our population is increasing, because we keep having children, and not enough houses are being made... Fuck me, just get off your arse, google shit and inform yourself, it's not hard....

You realise by saying everyone on the left is 'namby pamby' you are doing the exact same thing you hated right? Also, you said vita just ideology' then went to talk about the EU and your opinion as if it was fact. If you want to leave that's cool, but you can't say there was absolutely no reason to stay.

Anyone that's followed your channel for a while would know your thoughts on this. On another note, surprised you're dropping the GS, I would have thought one of your superbikes would have gone first. You used the GS for so many projects.

Trade agreements exist to help protect local economies. The idea is to maximize any positive aspects of free trade and minimize the damage of free trade.

It works both ways, you're making lots of assumptions as to why people voted remain "staying in a relationship you're not happy with" is not the reason many voted remain, Im sure it was some just like some racists voted out. Its a generalisation. Some of us like myself could see the benefits the EU provides and the support offered which is also completely ignored, the EU is no way near perfect but nothing is, Brexit won't be the sunshine you expect, our government is going to be just as useless imo.

quigonjay9 I'm with you, I subscribe to channels like this for entertainment (bike related ideally!) and escapism, not for political rants. Too many twats wanting to air their uneducated/ill-informed political or religious views. Keep it for the ballot box!

On University I totally agree. When I was at school (i'm now 22) the implication from the school was that you got the grades and you went to University (after all I guess it makes there stats looks good?). Either way I did go to University did a useful degree and it turned out well for me BUT out of my friends that went against the norm and left school after GCSE the majority have been extremely successful without the help of a fuck ton of debt and just by working hard at what they want to do.

As an American, I completely agree with you, BaronVonGrumble. Out of everything going on right now, I'm more concerned about what is going on in the culture of the common people. My fellow citizens shouldn't be hating each other so much, it should be the opposite.

Hey Baron, I'll try and explain why global free-trade isn't an ideal solution. I took a few economic courses at University a couple years ago which explained that trade-barriers exist to protect the respective population's jobs and welfare. For example, here in Australia, the average Australian enjoys a higher salary than an average person from our main trade partner, China. If there were no trade-barriers, that average Chinese person would be able to produce more 'goods' for the same currency than the respective Australian person. Therefore, identical goods would be priced very much differently, and Australian workers would either lose jobs, or drastically reduce their salaries to remain competitive. The trade-barrier is designed to ensure a countries workforce remains competitive inside their borders, and prevents undercutting prices of another country. If it helps, this is a similar line of thinking to your Hillary (Politically Correct) v. Trump (Speak your mind) mentality, as, whilst it appears on the surface that free trade would produce a 'Utopian' economic climate, the actual result would be more developed countries being vastly undercut financially. The best solution is, in the theme of your argument in your video, not push for a Utopian society where everyone is happy and fair, but to actually fight for the best deal for yourself and for your country. Hope this explanation helps, and by chance you're reading this, huge fan of you and your channel. Cheers mate

@baronvongrumble off-topic, I'm moving over from Dublin to West Sussex. I'm a bit freaked bout the bike theft in London, I won't be commuting in the city, will be working outta Gatwick and living close by. Is it safe out that way to buy and ride something nice or do I have to buy something shit that won't be stolen? Whatever I buy will be alarmed, immobilised and chained to the nines. Cheers.
