I was playing the current tavern brawl, and I learned something new about renounce darkness that I would never have know otherwise: If you play renounce darkness while holding the curse from curse of Rafaam, the curse is also converted to a random class card. :D

These decks will not work. Much like Yogg and Load the issue is that there is no real win condition. You play your renounce/yogg with a big hand or with a ton of spells and then you ????... profit?

Tempo Mage and druid made yogg work because they had actual plan A before the plan B of Praise yogg. Compare that to Yogg/load where the plan A is just praise yogg/load -> ???? -> Profit?

1 mana reduction for random cards is negligible considering that many cards are unplayable even when they get cheaper by 1. I even doubt that renounce would be playable if it reduced by 2.

Wibbly Wobbly Admittedly the Barnes combo is a big help for having alternative plan to renounce but you are still hoping to be quite lucky as your Plan A. I had no problem with the Barnes hunter because it had a reasonably reliable Plan A between the Bow and CoW being good cards with Plan B Barnes combo sometimes stealing an extra game to beef up the winrate. This deck like Yogg/Load just has an unreliable plan A with unreliable plan B. You could just play Resurrect priest and have a reliable plan A of 2 mana 4/7 being pretty good and a fallback unreliable plan b (elise) to steal some games you "should" have lost TLDR; you cant succeed by just having "Praise X random eff" be your primary win condition

I have had a small amount of success with renounce in Reno lock, the idea being that you only use it as a panic button, but deck sizes only being 30 means you'd probably have a better win rate without it

I feel like renounce darkness was specifically built for Reno warlock as an absolute last resort card. for example if you lost your reno, or are about to die. like yogg saron actually. Super random last resort card. Strange why trump thought it would work with barnes though, I'm pretty sure that's antisynergy with the random cards.

That first game is just the best example as to why renounce darkness is bad. He just put all the ok to good spells in the deck and that had more consistency than random discounted cards

I've wondered if renounce could be a viable plan B for zoo decks. The theory is that your deck is built for the early game, and if you don't win early, you're better off with randomizing the deck to look for late-game plays. It probably would be terrible in practice.

The problem is that it clutters your hand in games you would've won without it, and doesn't help consistently enough to make up for that. It's like a higher variance, slower version of Yogg.

About the last match there's something that's bugging me slightly. The priest stole Trumps warlock card with the first Shifting Shade he played. Then Trump Renounced (two turns later) and got stolen yet a bunch of warrior cards. I got an impression, that that first card (in priest hand) got renounced along with Trump's ones... Am I just silly or is it somehow a hidden "side effect" so to speak?

Renounce darkness is weird because you want to have a good enough deck that you don't need to rely on renounce darkness but if your deck is too good why would you want a bunch of random cards. I enjoy renounce darkness as a gimmick deck

they should make renounce so it changes the cards to cards with similar cost as you had (for example for 1 cost card yo would roll 0-2 mana cost card) so you would still get fun random part but actually have some chance for proper curve. i'd say 2x renounce and the nfull 3mana+ cards would be nice ;D

*Embrace Insanity*, or something along those lines. That's basically what a Shadow priest is, so it's a logical idea for a card. Although, I think it's an excellent opportunity for something very unique and game-changing for priests: Instead of changing class cards and hero power, you'd gain the Shadow Form hero power and then certain fitting priest class cards would be turned into aggressive mirrors of their former versions. I think that would make a decent legendary battlecry minion for priest, too; it doesn't necessarily have to be a spell.

I laughed so hard at this. Trump's deck building is so fucking bad. Alright, so the concept is... to make sure you draw Barnes, don't draw Y'Shaarj, draw Renounce, don't discard Renounce, and fail to play Renounce by turn 4 in a tempo-oriented deck with no early game and no neutral card draw in a class where the hero power counters your Barnes combo (unlike Tracking in Hunter, usually). If that all DOESN'T happen by turn 4, then you just waited till turn 4 for nothing in a tempo-oriented deck with no early game, and you now need to Renounce which defeats the whole point of the Barnes combo because it chucks a shitload of random minions in to your deck. Then he goes on to complain that the card's not good and discourages players from trying fun things. Good job Trumpers.

Mike Hunt I like these comments. Obviously it was for fun and he wasn't trying to make a T1 deck. It's a Renounce deck. That doesn't mean he wasn't trying to make a legitimate deck out of it. Each time he's tried the card, he's made a worse and worse deck out of it, and that does nothing but put people off when they see that it flops over and over and discourages people from trying fun decks of their own. It doesn't take a genius to see that making a deck out of two opposing combos really doesn't make sense.

cdwwg If you are looking up for trump to teach you how to make T1 decks or to show you if certain decks are viable, you are doing it wrong. Trump is mostly a «casual pro-player»... It shoudn't discourage people from trying new decks. Besides, I think it does show what NOT to do. I actually learned a lot about how important it is to prioritize consistency over greed when making a deck.

That would mean putting other minions in the deck (no neutral spells exists), which would kill the barnes/Y'Shaarj combo. Plus he had rather large hands when he renounced due to life tap. +Navaa Bang The is one neutral card that actually draws more than one card, being that murloc that makes both players draw 2 cards. I wouldn't suggest using it in this deck, but would like to point out that at least one does exist. Acolyte of Pain and Cult Master are also neutral minions that can draw more than one card.

Renounce Darkness is only good if your deck has a way to get consistent card draw. And since your hero power gets replaced, that means you need to have card draw neutrals. And then you ask yourself: "isn't this just a worse and less consistent version of zoo?"

I remember once I renounced darkness turn 2 and I had like 5 Solemn Vigils in my deck on top of other draw cards (like hammer of wrath) I managed to draw the game to fatigue but then lost while my opponent still had like 5 -10 cards left XD

Eoin D I'd argue that having the semi-stability of a reliable 3-drop in the deck outweighs the benefit of a 100% Y'Shaarj pull. The point of having Imp Gang Boss is that you play it on turn 3 anyway, and if you then play Barnes on 4 you only have one left in the deck to increase the chance of getting the 10/10 from 25% to 33%. You're going to lose so many games by not having any early game plays, so that even if you do get your 10/10 out you're so behind on tempo that it doesn't matter. I get that this is a gimmick deck and the whole point is to go for that low-percentage win condition with the added renounce fun, but this tiny bit of compromise wouldn't hurt too much.

I don't care how bad Renounce is. I'll continue to play it for shits and giggles. I prefer the Elise version to Barnes+Y'Shaarj since it lets you play as a rough approximation of zoo until you draw Renounce, and has a potential 'reroll' in Elise in case your deck really ends up sucking. Still probably not legend worthy but it's *fun*.
