I had bought a bulb even though the existing did not look blown. Whilst I spray the silicone has not fixed it, I now know the lock mechanism is the cause, as light works if I move the latch slightly so I will leave the lubricant to work in and see, but at least this video saved me buying any further parts. Thank you 😇

This is a superior diagnostics video. Here's my problem, which sort of fits one or two of the situations you described but wonder if you can provide your best guess based on my symptoms: 1. Trunk ajar light randomly comes on, sometimes when driving. Other times as soon as I start the car but the trunk is very securely closed in all cases. 2. Trunk ajar light does not come on when the trunk open switch or fob key is pressed. 3. Trunk ajar does not go away when the trunk is closed. 4. Trunk light is never on when the trunk is open. Does not come on when closed either. 5. If I push the trunk open switch/fob, sometimes the latch does something internally to make it impossible to close the trunk like something is jamming the latch. 6. Non-LED Bulb is good (did the 9V battery test on it) 7. Bulb housing is good (did the 9V battery test with bulb in) 8. Fuse for trunk bulb is good ( and all interior lights are working) Do you believe bulb not working is related to the perpetual trunk ajar message? If so what should I replace?

Sorry for never replying, I didn't see your comment until now. The bulb would have no effect on your trunk ajar message, not to mention your bulb is working anyways as you tested in points 6 & 7. Have you ensured the latch is freely moving as shown in the beginning of this video? And have you ensured the trunk light and trunk ajar message are turning on and off as you move the trunk latch? If the trunk light and trunk ajar message are not turning on and off as you move the trunk latch as shown at 0:12, then your latch more than likely needs to be replaced.

Hi@@CarRepairsMadeSimple - once again you are spot on with your recommendation. I went ahead and bought a replacement latch and performed the swap and voila! The trunk light is magically working now after plugging it back in and I no longer receive the random trunk ajar messages. I did try fiddling with the latch but it didn't seem to affect anything. I'm guessing something was wrong in the internal circuit who knows? The new latch is working beautifully. Now if the transmission was as easy to replace, that's another story...car is undrivable needing a trans rebuild but the trunk latch is good!

@@martialarts151 Glad to hear your trunk issue is resolved! That sucks to hear about your transmission though. If you haven't already, try cleaning your solenoid screen filters and ensure your ATF is clean and not over/underfilled. I have a separate video for both on my channel if you want to check those out. These two recommendations have saved a lot of my viewers thousands! Best of luck to you

Nice JLs bro! I have two American Bass HD 12s on a 6k amp in my 02 Type S abd theyre absolutely destroying my trunk! Had to get the metal the latch striker attaches to welded up the other day. Hope those JLs are being kinder to your car lol

Haven’t had to do any welding yet, but I do have to adjust my mirror and gps frequently haha not bad for 15yo subs!

I just want to say thank you so much for the how to videos on your 2002 Acura TL Type S. I have the same identical car 161K miles. I have a leak in my PS return line. The aluminum that runs alone the frame somehow got to close to the wheel that’s at the bottom of the motor. I guess I will have to remove the all the under shield in order to get to front part of the aluminum line. It’s #19 on the Acura parts PS diagram. Any suggestions to help.

@@JG2HTT I’m glad my videos have been helpful! Yah your guess is as good as mine as I’ve never replaced that ps line. Jack up the vehicle, remove any covers and components that are in the way and hopefully it isn’t too difficult of a job. Make sure nothing happened to the 2 clips that are supposed to hold the line in place. Replace them if necessary. Good luck!
