The National League South season begins for Dorking Wanderers with a trip down to Truro City, a club that has only just found its way back home after years of ground sharing.
There's a party atomsphere down in Cornwall, and Dorking need to puncture it. Before they can, there's a little matter of two football kits that are a little too close for comfort...

As always, great video. I hate to say this as a fellow ref but she had a stinker from before the start to finish - the kit clash, Dorking's first goal (that's a push, regardless of whether it's a 'contact sport' or not), the non-Dorking penalty (that's a penalty!). This isn't a bad standard of football regardless of what the uneducated think so it deserves good officials. And forget what Mark says, John Askey (Truro manager) summed up her performance with aplomb minus the swearing when he described her decision to allow play to start when both teams looked the same as one of her better decisions 🤣 Tyler Harvey scores a lot of goals at this level, he's truly a Truro legend. Also great to see Truro finally back in Cornwall.

@emrson606 it should never have got to that point in first place. This isn't grassroots football. Clubs have to communicate before games at mini soccer to make arrangements. This is down to the secretaries of the clubs. Saying they've not had an updated handbook is an excuse to end all excuses as they both have significant social media presence to liaise with each other. The fact Dorking managed to sort training facilities for the Friday without confirming their kits says quite a bit about their priorities. The officials clearly tried to go ahead so as not to delay the fixture. End of the day the officials could've said no not happening, match postponed and the league can deal with the fall out. Surely someone, anyone, even the supporters spotted in the warm up the shorts and socks were almost identical in colour and asked questions. No? ... ah well we'll blame the officials as if they delayed it they would have been blamed anyway.

@@LoveTri Not disputing lack of communication between clubs is also poor. However the officials should have made a call when the teams were warming up, it's like making sure the pitch is safe etc. Very basic stuff

The owner of Truro, Eric Perez, was formerly the owner of Toronto Wolfpack RL team so suprised to see him pop up at Truro FC...Certainly got a very good manager in with John Askey who has done well at higher level and in the league...

One of the first things you learn as a referee is as soon as you get to the ground you check the kits. Must have been fast tracked or promoted above their level to make such a monumental error. Such a sad state of affairs. Hopefully won't forget it and will learn from the experience.

It's a collective fail. It's the refs responsibility once presented with team sheets. At this level the kits are agreed way before game day. Further, there are FOUR officials looking at team sheets. However, it's the refs responsibility ultimately and to even allow the game to start is very poor.

Both teams should take responsibility here . I can understand not getting an away at the start do the season but then this is why you should keep some of last season kit until the new one arrives . Dorking has come a distance to this game and also should have taken some spare kits . The referee did not help matters . Letting them play is a lesson for the referee . I believe the referee will now understand why kit clash lead to many issues on the pitch .
